CHARITO SOLIS DEAD AT 62!

Calamba, Laguna, Jan. 11, 1998 - Charito Solis, one of the greatest
stars of Philippine cinema died last night of a heart attack in the
Laguna Hot Springs.
Reports said that Solis was in Laguna to be baptized as a born-again
Christian. She was in her room at the resort when she complained of
chest pains. She was declared dead shortly before midnight at the
Calamba Medical Center.
Miss Solis, born Rosanna Violeta Hernandez Solis, began her career in
the early 50s at LVN Studios, starring in her first movie "Nina
Bonita" opposite Jaime de la Rosa in 1955.
She was the first Filipina to win an international acting award, for
the movie "Dahil sa Isang Bulaklak".
The present generation of TV viewers knows her as Ina Magenta, the
flamboyant Queen of Fairies in the fantasy situation-comedy "Okey Ka,
Fairy Ko".

Charito Solis was a good actress. I remember her movie "Igorota" in
which she portrayed a native Igorot woman. May she rest in peace.
