Filipina Star Arrested in LA
The Associated Press
Published: April 1, 2005
LOS ANGELES-One of the Philippine's most popular film and music stars was
arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on investigation of possessing
methamphetamine, a newspaper reported Friday.

Nora Aunor, whose real name is Nora Cabaltera Villamayor, was arrested late
Wednesday allegedly with 8 grams of the drug in her carryon bag and a glass
pipe wrapped in a T-shirt, according to the Daily Breeze of Torrance.

The newspaper named Aunor but Jennifer Peppin, spokeswoman for the
Transportation Security Administration, would only identify the woman as a
"female suspect."

Airport screeners stopped Aunor, who was flying to Oakland, and found the
methamphetamine in a film container, the Daily Breeze said, citing unnamed
law enforcement officials.

Aunor, 51, was released early Thursday after posting $10,000 bail, according
to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. A court hearing was
scheduled April 21.

Lita Patayon, assistant to the Philippine consulate in Los Angeles, told The
Associated Press by phone she was unaware of the incident but would attempt
to confirm whether Aunor was arrested.

Known as "The Superstar" to her fans, Aunor has appeared in more than 170
films and recorded more than two dozen albums, including scores of hit
singles.

On screen, she starred with leading men of her time, including Joseph
Estrada, who became the country's president.

She won the best actress award at the 2004 International Festival of
Independent Films in Brussels, Belgium. In 1997, she won for best actress at
the East Asia Film and Television Festival Awards in Penang, Malaysia.

A Philippine citizen, Aunor now spends much of her time in the United States
and has a home in Linda Vista, several miles north of San Diego.

Nora Aunor's faded superstar has fallen from the sky and landed on the
murky waters of Pasig River. After the imprisonment of Erap, FPJ's
death after a humiliating defeat to a Nora Aunor look-alike and now
this Nora Aunor drug case -- Da Pilipins' once most illustrious stars
have fallen in disgrace.

Sad. So sad.

I'm shedding pig's tears.

Correction: My dick is tie dyed (in woodland cammie pattern), not tied
down. Learn the difference, tanga.

Let's see. She was fourteen (14) when she won the Tawag ng Tanghalan (Call
of Accolades) songfest in '66. That makes her about 52-53 today depending on
her birth month.

I just learned the government would be footing the bill for her
defense.

Comments anyone?

Was she travelling in some sort of oficial capacity, on an official
passport? If so, then RP should pay and deal with her later. If not,
then EDSA3 ahoy!

I just found out from an extremely reliable source that she was born on May
12, 1953. She'll be 52 next month.
I guess the report was true after all. :)

What's up with Filipinos' obsession with has-been actresses. That goes
for Nora, Sharon, Vilma, and all these old geezers. They can never
really act, sure they can fake a cry, but is that all it takes in
Philippine showbiz? I mean, America has moved on from Elizabeth
Taylor, and all those 60's and 70's actresses, why can't the
Philippines?

And to those of you in the States, why are there commercials in TFC?
My mom pays a monthly rate for a re-broadcast of stupid Filipino shows
and she still have to deal with commercials?

Because you Yanks are suckers to allow commercial ads in pay TV stations. If
you don't like it, get legislation against it.
