Yes, is this Ara?
"Ito nga. Who's calling?"
It's CARL. No, I'm not
the same as the character
who calls you in Phone
Sex to have, you know,
S.O.P. (as in Sex On the
Phone, not Standard Operating Procedure). Don't
worry, this is going to be just a harmless phone
inter ....view!
"Okay lang!"
How different is this from your other roles?
"Naiiba. Kasi siempre dito, pinaglalaruan ko ang
sarili. Hindi ako sanay sa ganoon, kaya
nakakailang."
In the movie ba, are you the one who makes the
obscene calls?
"No, it's John (Apacible). Ako ang biktima. Para
akong nahi-hypnotize so I do everything that he
wants me to do."
Like what?
"Play with myself. Ganoon."
How did you feel during the shooting of the movie?
"Kinikilabutan ako. When I read the script,
tumataas na ang balahibo ko. Nakakaano ang
dating. The dialogue is medyo bulgar. And I've
never experienced doing it in real life."
You mean you never had any exciting calls like
that?
"Not on the phone. Sa text, mayroon. The guy
said, `Can we have S.O.P. kasi I'm very, very
lonely." Ganoon!"
How do you react to it?
"I just ignored it. One time, another guy called. He
did nothing but moan and groan on the phone so I
banged it on him. Buti nga! To avoid calls like that,
I refrain from answering the phone myself."
Your last movie was Banatan, with Jomari Yllana.
Since Jomari was also her leading man in her latest
movie (Warat), Joyce Jimenez is being pitted
against you for the Sex Goddess title. What can
you say?
"Wala. Okay lang. I'm happy for Joyce that her
career is doing well. I just don't want us to be
compared. I don't consider her as my `rival' or my
`competition.' Ang kalaban ko 'yung sarili ko."
Joyce did frontal nudity four times in Warat. Can
you beat that?
"Kaya ko rin. But it doesn't mean that just because
Joyce did it, makikipag-kumpetensya na ako sa
kanya. If it's needed in the story, I'll do it, why not?
In Kahapon... May Dalawang Bata, I did frontal
nudity while I was running in the ricefield.
Kailangan kasi, e. I did it even before Joyce did,
hindi nga lang ganoon karami o ganoon kababad."
Even your commercials (hers in Tanduay and
Joyce's is Beer na Beer) are being compared by
showbiz-watchers. Some are saying you're sexier
than Joyce; others say it's the other way around.
Doesn't it irritate you?
"Not at all. Pinasok ko ang showbiz, so I'm
prepared for it. In the commercials, magkaiba kami
ng style ni Joyce."
Pero sa singing daw, nakakalamang ka kay Joyce.
"Salamat naman kung ganoon. Actually, I'm trying
to develop my other talents, one of them singing
nga. I'm grateful that Star Records is giving me a
chance to do an album."
An album?
"Actually, I have already recorded seven songs,
three more to go. The album will be released in
August. One of the selections in the album was
composed by Martin Nievera. Another one was
by Vehnee Saturno."
In singing ba, is Sharon Cuneta, your lookalike
(Ara's mom was fond of Sharon when she was
conceiving), your inspiration?
"Yes, she is? She's very supportive sa akin. During
my concert (Rated A) with Ai-Ai (delas Alas) at
Music Museum, Sharon watched on the second
night. Flattered naman ako! I didn't expect her to
go out of her way to watch us. She even
congratulated me after the show!"
After Phone Sex, what other movies are you
doing?
"I've done four -- Nagaapoy na Laman with Zoren
Legaspi and Matthew Mendoza for Regal,
directed by Don Escudero; Laro sa Baga, a novel
by Edgardo Reyes, directed by Chito Rono; and
Alyas Pogi 3 with Bong Revilla for Star Cinema."
Is it true that you had a "fling" with JT during the
shooting of your movie?
"It's not true. I've been reading all the tsismis about
us but they're not true. Sa totoo lang, hindi ako
pumapatol sa may-asawa. Ilag ako sa
may-asawa."
TANGA......
