I can't stand filipino pretenders. Filipinos, in their egomaniacal,
self-loathing, paranoid character, build up theirs self-righteous 3rd
World selves to be bigger than they'll ever be. They love to show off
and they talk way too much about things that they have very little
knowlegde of. They freely and openly insult others for various reasons
while almost never taking that long look in the mirror to see their own
ugly mongrel faces.
Gossip. They gossip about each other whenever they have an
opportunity. A whole culture of people who feel that they have the
natural rite of judge and jury of their peers.
More to come . . . I've only begun to burn.

Why don't you put an end to all your misery and just shoot yourself. If
that's too painful, just tell everyone you're Vietnamese...that's the

Then what the hell are you doing in this newsgroup? Why hang out in the

Filipinos. A suppressed, subconcious part who saw BOTH bad *and* GOOD
things about Filipino culture.

began my ass, you've already charred your heart, soul and cultural
identity to ashes. You've burned long ago, and now there's nothing left
but an empty shell of what once was. But there's still hope for sad
losers like you. Deep down in your jaded one-sided mind, is a proud

Listen well to your Tita Vina, homeboy! There's someone who's been
through your period of ignorant one-sided darkness and came through it a
happy, proud Pinay! you go, girl!!!
Know what folks, I say we invite all these
i-hate-being-filipino-i-don't-think-there's-nothing-good-about-philippines
losers to the next SCF picnic. Let's show these dorks in person the
*good* & *fun* side of Filipino culture. Maybe we'll even have JT yakap
them ;-). And we'll definitely give them a taste of Bambam's famous
barbeque. Totoy Tigas can tell them "right-click" jokes, and I'll even
offer them some of my Chicharon. And last but not least, Ben G. can
give them some of his "patis".
If they still think there's nothing good about Filipinos after that,
then they're hopeless cases.

Well, it HAS been awhile since there was a thread dealing with alternatives.
How about a people referred to as:
a) Lapulapiños
b) Magallañinos
Or a country known as:
a) Republika ng Pera ng OCW
b) Republika ng Pasalubong ng Balikbayan
c) Republika ng Lagay
(OK Ron, I give you special dispensation from the agreement, if you signed it,
to flame me for those)
>2)Was keeping the name part of the deal between Spain and the U.S. when the

Technically, the name was probably changed from Islas de las Filipinas (or
Philippinas) to the Philippine Islands or something like that (totoong tamad na
ako - I'm not going to look it up). Your point is valid, however - it might be
a watershed event for the Philippines to change the name of the country. Just
wait for a scandal to break out and somebody will think of doing such a thing
to distract public attention. In fact, it might even be a good time to change
the name of the U.S. to Starlandia or Lewinskandalia - maybe THAT would stop
the investigations.

You're in bad shape. Unless you are talking about oyur family, I don't

Hindi lahat ng Pilipino ay nagtataglay ng mga negatibong karakter na

Your judgmental statement rings as hollow as your intellect, Tonyo. Why not

seriously consider the use of plastic - a plastic bag over your empty head?

Another one of your thoughtless meaningless prescriptions, I see.
Let me reciprocate anyway... Tonyo. Here's my prescription:
You will probably discover that once you start being nice to others, others
will start to be nice to you. Keep being what you are and behaving as you do
and you will end up in everyone's killfile list.
Tonyo, wake up! Open your eyes and see that there is another side to life -
a good and better and happy side. Not everything in life is as bleak and
morose and as negative as you perceive it to be. Take control of your
cynicism because no one else will do it for you. Your happiness depends not
on others but solely on yourself.
Ho hum... This is starting to get boring, Tonyo. Now scoot... Go crawl back

What's an "igarot"? You mean "Igorot"? You call me that as if it was

Hello! Yeah, the Evil One still has followers, but most Flips hate his
guts and are ashamed of this bastard. But just because we had this
monster of a leader in the past, does not mean we cannot hope and try to
achieve a better future--I mean DUH, we *did* kick Makoy out! Funny how
you mention Hitler, one of this century's biggest monsters from
Germany. But I don't see Germans moping around hopelessly and mumbling
about how hopeless their culture is, how bad it is to be a German

Idiot, the world's oldest profession is *every*where!!! Some people
(not just in the Philippines) want this legalized, and some countries
legalize it in contained areas. Personally, I don't think it should be
legalized, but just because there are prostitutes in the Philippines
(just like there are in probably every country in the world) does NOT
mean that all our women are like that, or that all our men are pimps. I
feel sorry for the women who have to sell themselves (or are pimped),
but that doesn't stop me from seeing the *positive* things about women
in the Philippines.

What a moron you are, we ain't the only people who have candidates doing
stupid, pointless, nothing-to-do-with-issues stuff while campaigning.
It's one of the flaws of democracy, since the common people have the
power to put or remove people from office, the people who want to be in
office will do whatever they can to try to persuade or manipulate the
common people into voting for them. The same way those damn lawyers
will pull fancy tricks in the courtroom to impress the jury. I don't
like this any more than you do, but I don't let this prevent me from
enjoying the good things about Filipino culture. This won't prevent me
from going to a fiesta. This won't prevent me from eating Palabok.
This won't prevent me from listening to full volume Lea Salonga music in
my car.
> Enough said.
barely enough. not even close. if your goal is to make us all as
pathetically hopeless and sad about being Filipino as you are, man you
are going to have to do a LOT better than that. Because most of us here
are quite HAPPY and PROUD to be Filipino. About the only thing that'll
stop me from being proud to be Pinoy right now, is if ALL OF OUR PEOPLE
turned into mindless, hopeless, basket cases like you.
Say it LOUD,
We're Kayumanggi, (except Bambam--he's albino :-)
And we're PROUD!
> I've got to stop, I'm feeling sick again.
"feeling sick"--heck you ARE sick. you've probably had some bad
experiences in the Philippines, or had bad experiences with other
Filipinos, and you are then blaming ALL FILIPINOS and ALL PHILIPPINE
CULTURE for your bad experiences. You know what you are, asshole.
You're like the white woman who gets held up by a black man and starts
hating & blaming all blacks for this one bad experience--except in your
case, you hate your own countrymen. There's three words for this kind
of thing: ignorance, prejudice, & racism. Nasty illnesses these are.
And you're infected with all three. That's why you're sick.
> I'll be back with more - the list

Listen, man, you have a choice - if you detest being a Filipino, go and tell
anyone who asks you your nationality that you're a Malaysian, an Indonesian,
a Thai, whatever ... and see if that will make you happier. I'm sure you'll
find out in time that everyone, if they don't learn enough about their
culture, people back home and the natural treasures of their country, have a
tendency to feel the same way you do.
Oh, but our culture is not only filled with deceit, etc., etc., it's also
filled with compassion and sacrifice (Filipinas leave their families to work
as domestic helpers in order to secure their child's education. Why are you
in the States and not here then?) heroic deeds, and solidarity, and courage.
A lot of our men were sent to help fight alongside the Americans in wars,
and even here, where the military clash with the NPA's, there are instances
where the two groups in the light of day will share meals and drinks, and
fight only when night fall, so they do not feel the pain of seeing a comrade
belonging to an enemy camp die.
People are the SAME EVERYWHERE - IRREGARDLESS OF NATIONALITY.
I know how you feel, I used to feel the same way too. Only, I didn't
vocalise it until I was over it - take your time. And yes, I'll give you
that, it is true, there are good and bad Filipinos with good and bad traits,
just like there are good and bad Americans, French, Germans, Chinese,
Singaporeans ... no nationality is excluded from the list if you'll think
about this calmly. Just take them as they come, and let them go. They're not
an albatross tied around your neck. Leave people with bad traits and hang
around people you like. You have a choice, no?
What you write here just tells me you've got a problem with self-esteem, or
maybe you've just been at the brunt end of loads of racist comments. So we
hear you ... but why don't you just stick around and try to learn a bit from
from this newsgroups. You might discover there are pros and cons to being a
Filipino, and this is one site where there are lots of pros. Or at least,
we're trying to infuse that now. Everyone's got a job to do, everyone's
busy, tired, frustrated, but they will still spend time to exchange
pleasantries amongst their kind. This is a good trait, don't you agree? And
it's Filipino.
Take it easy. Even if you turn out not to be a Filipino after all.

How about being an Ilocano, Tagalog, Cebuano, Igorot, etc.?
What do you define as Filipino?
How are you different from Filipinos or those you view as being Filipino?
How will that prove anything? Puti ng puti na ako, pero eto ay Tagalog diba?
(well, maybe its really bad Tagalog). Also, many kayumanggi people never learn
Tagalog. Anyway, hopefully the guy will get over his phase as he gets older.

Well it sure sounds like YOU think you have the "natural rite of judge

You are describing YOURSELF, not the typical Filipino. Just because you
are this despicable doesn't mean everyone else who shares the same
genepool is. So don't lose sleep over it--if you aren't Pinoy in your
heart, then you're not a Filipino. We won't miss you.

Sometime ago I tried one of those "hypnotic tapes" to determine the
state of my "inner peace". But I found none. . .I found an "inner
flame", and above it was a small "inner lechon", there were also small
bags of "inner chicharon" lying around. I rejoiced, for that day, I
found my calling, my TRUE purpose in this virtual universe. And then I
was at peace, because I now had a purpose, a goal, a reason to exist in
this sometimes confusing (virtual) world. I can't put a number on it,
but if you'll squeeze one out of me, I'd probably burp out a "7".

I don't think our people pay their respects to ol King Philip, everytime
they call themselves Filipino. The origin of the name, is an interesting
fact, but I don't think most Filipinos care or think about king philip,
or paying respects to him, whenever they say "Filipino" or
"Philippines". The idea of changing the country's name *has* occured
during Makoy's evil reign, but it didn't go through for some reason (he
wanted to rename it "Maharlika").
Personally, I no longer care about the origin of the word "Filipino".
Just as I don't really care much about the origin of the name of my home
City. . .Cebu. I heard it was named after this meat people sold there
or something called "Sebu", back in pre-hispanic times. Interesting
fact, but that's that. I don't think "meat" everytime I say "Cebu", I
think of Cebu everytime I say Cebu. Neither do I think of espanya or
hari felipe whenever I say "Philippines"--I think of the Philippines
instead.

see your other "ideas".

Also, the origins of the word "Flip". The intent might not have been
flattering, but it sounds cool anyway.
Of course Marcos will go down in history as a bad person who raped his native
land, Erap is seen as foolish because he is liked by the masa, the Philippines
has prostitutes.
Hmmm, let's see what else we can add to the mix....
Filipinos have the highest rate of incarceration in Hawaii. Hawaii's Filipino
governor presides over the only state in the union that is in economic trouble.
Filipinos have the highest incidence of AIDS in the United States amongst
Asian minorities. Filipinos all around the world are committed to
domestic/slave labor. Filipinos are generally looked down upon. Filipinos
like chickens. Filipinos like Gianni Versace Jeans. A Filipino killed Gianni
Versace.
So what?
You affirm that you are indeed Filipino. That must suck for you.
Deal with it.
Get over yourself.
I don't care if you are ashamed to be Filipino. You simply are Filipino and
there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
Perhaps some skin lightener and some Sun In for your hair?
Someone on here posted about being at peace with yourself, I am and if you
don't like it - I really couldn't care less.
I'm happy with who I am and what I have done in my life and my ethnic
background. If you're unhappy with being Filipino merely for the reasons
stated, then the best that I can do is, perhaps, feel sorry for you.
Maybe you should try eating potatoes....

Are YOU concerned about the conditions that Filipinos live in?

I seriously think that calling them "losers" and "dorks" and saying they're

I don't think anything short of major mental therapy will change this
guy's mind. Seemed to me the goal of his posts are to attempt to make
us all as miserable as he is. That to me is a loser. I'm not aiming to
change his mind. . .I don't think I can, he's too far gone for mere
words to change his mind. That's why I wanna invite him (and others
like him) to the next SCF Picnic. . .to show (through actions not words)
how much FUN it is to be Filipino. Ok, maybe I shouldn't have called
him a "dork", but I still think he's a loser.

Cebu came from the word "Nasugbu", I don't know what it means anymore but,
it is an ancient Malay name....corrupted by the Spaniards into Cebu.
I believe it is the old Cebuano word for "walk on water," and was that
area where Cebu City is right now. The coastline by Humabon's kingdom
experienced extremely low tides and the ancient Cebuanos could walk past
the coast at a great distance which would make them look like walking on
water. The word eventually evolved to "Sugbu" which is still
sometimes being used today to refer to Cebu City when speaking Cebuano.
According to legend, when the Spaniards first came to Cebu, they saw the
people slaughtering a cow. They asked the natives what the name of the
place was. The Cebuanos thought they were asking for the name of the
fatty tissues by the cow's neck. The reply was "Sebu" and the Spaniards
have always referred to the place as Cebu. This legend is most likely
false because I think it was the Spanish who introduced cattle to the
Philippines.
Yeah, I'm proud of my Cebuano heritage. We produced the first national
hero in Lapulapu and the first documented pinoy traitor in Humabon.
Hey Ron & other Cebuanos. If you like old school music, one of the
Commodore's Greatest Hits has a track called Cebu. This was back in the
days when Lionel Ritchie was black.
Which distinguishes it from every other "culture"....
Why not think and act for *yourself* for a change?

I find myself very offended by remarks about it. Funny thing, though, is that

Well keep burnin' .... I love to read more from you ...
I will personally come out of my cave to cook once more if you guys have
another scf picnic.

are you sure? have you genetically tested yourself? you sure you want to
classify yourself as something which you so clearly despise? isn't that
rather stupid?
>Oh, and I've got some news for you . . . we all have to sweat it.

see, this is where we part ways. what you see as being sick and twisted,
i see as efficiency. i respect marcos because he held onto his power for
so long. now, do you thinkg that you have enough brains to even get
elected as congressman? do you?
>2. Prostitution. If income from this profession were declared, people would

so what's your point? the poor economic prospects in the philippines has
forced our fellow kababayans to take the low road. kung ikaw din ay nasa
kanilang kalagayan, hahawak ka din sa patalim.
>3. Celebrities as politicians - singing and dancing while campaigning -
Ronald Reagan, The Republican tennessee senator, gopher from the love
boat, and the esteemed skiing congressman sonny bono.
these are examples of american politicians who were originally
actors/celebrities. your rather nearsighted examination of the philippine
landscape is cause for alarm since i believe you are a product of an
american education.

I hope you weren't offended by JT's post. It was just a parody of the "Unhappy
Being Filipino" post. Nag-fa-FATawa lang siya (he was just being funny).

Bakit 'di mo ipakita sa lahat kung paano dapat mabuhay ang isang Pilipino? If
you think you're better, then why not be an example of how much better we can
be, instead of putting down your heritage. Or are you just as "Filipino" as
the rest of us?
Kung ayaw mo, eh di huwag. Huwag kang maging "Pilipino" kung kaya mo. Wala
kang magawa 'no? Kahit pa i-bleach mo iyang mukha at buhok mo at magpatangos
ka ng ilong, PINOY KA PA RIN!!!!
Neener-neener-neener! Pinoy! Pinoy! Pinoy! Pinoy! Pinoy!!!!
BBQ (proud to be Pinoy!!!)

Just like you, huh? Not too far off from your "Filipino history is sad" posts.

I was thinking along the same lines. Naunahan mo lang ako, Anne. IOW, I agree
wholeheartedly!!! I'm proud to be a Flip. If someone chooses to use the term
to insult me, they're just wasting their breath. In the same context, I'm
proud to be a Filipino for what the name now means to me, not for what the
Spaniards meant it to be.
