AFTER surviving for almost six years in the Philippine Basketball
League, Chowking Fastfoods' Genesis Sasuman finally bagged the
Most Valuable Player of the conference award yesterday before the
opening tip-off of Game Three of the best-of-five finals series of
the
Danny Floro Cup at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
The 26-year-old Sasuman garnered 1,430 points in the MVP race
to beat fancied talents Jason Webb of Stag Pale Pilsen and Braulio
Lim of Agfa HDC Films who tallied 1,297 and 1,168 points,
respectively.
"Maagang pamasko ito sa akin. Hindi ko talaga inaasahan ito, kaya
nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa akin," said the
teary-eyed Sasuman, who was also adjudged the conference's
Three-point King after sinking 54 of 106 attempts from behind the
arc.
"Malaking dagdag itong mga awards na ito sa credentials ko
pag-akyat ko sa PBA," he added.
Joining the three PBA-bound cagers in the first mythical team are
Stag's Christopher Cantonjos (1,129) and Springmaid's Jun Paguinto
(1,070).
Comprising the second mythical squad are Chowking center
Rommel Adducul (956), Springmaid forwards Lowell Briones (879)
and Arnold Padaong (783), and Stag guards Jomer Rubi (842) and
Randy Alcantara (735).
Agfa's 18-year-old sensation Paolo Mendoza was the hands down
choice for the Rookie of the Year while Briones was heralded as the
year's Most Improved Player.
Stag was still playing Springmaid in Game Three of the PBL Danny
Floro Cup finals as of presstime. The Pilseners lead 2-0 and they
need only one more win to clinch the title.
