Watching the Emmy coverage of Entertainment Tonight, Joan Rivers made a
comment before going into commercial regarding Filipinos eating their dogs.

I do not agree with this generalization of us Filipinos. We cannot deny
that what she said was true but not for everyone.

Its like saying all Americans eat Hamburgers.

I remember Joan Rivers saying that the song "How much is that little doggie
in the window..." isn't something you should sing to a Filipino butcher.

Who gives a shit about Joan Rivers? Are your feelings hurt because she is
barking (pun intended) about Filipinos eating dogs? Its a fact that
Filipinos eat dogs. Not all but some. Some as a snack (?). If that's all
she can say about Filipinos then tough shit. As if Filipinos were the only
ones eating dogs...hell does that mean that Filipinos don't love dogs as
pets?

Other people eat dogs too but Filipinos are known for it. Maybe that's our
claim to fame. Maybe we can get Paolo Montalban, Lea Salonga, or maybe even
Lou Diamond Phillips to smack her around a bit. Yes, Filipinos are more
than just the eaters of dogmeat. Joan Rivers is just one old fart who
probably thinks that Filipinos are a bunch of lousy dogeaters. Where is
that bitch's dog? I'll eat that shit up right now even though I've never
had dogmeat because I'm Filipino and Joan Rivers is still on that "Filipinos
eat dog" joke. Too funny!

Hey Pinoys lets not deny that dog eating action or even blame other peoples
for eating other "stuff"....embrace it! Don't be ashamed let's hunt Joan
Rivers' poochie and lets roast that sucker and devour it!

Peace,

I recall what she said during the post Emmy awards. I think her
statement appears like this; "We take a commercial break. We have enough
time to wash our dogs. Filipino you have time to eat your dogs" plus a
(-:). This is a rude statement. It's not conclusive that all Filipinos
eat dogs. Don't worry guys we will make a pulutan out of Joan River's
ears.

My first try at dog eating is because of revenge.....I don't like that neighbor
who left for vacation and their dog yelping and screaming w/out food for two
days! Well, the dog is gone......let's get her pooch....

This is true, she made the same crack a few years back and didn't get laughs. I
think when she's at an oscar awards night.

If brother Tansong Isda says it tastes good...then it must be good. I can
imagine these Puti folks turning up their nose with disgust for the Filipino
delicacy of ASO. These people don't know what they're missing.

I have an idea:

I'm sure Joan Rivers has a Filipino butler/maid somewhere. Let's get
him/her to serve her up a nice little black aso. I'll bet she's gonna burst
out with the Tagalog with her "Ang luto ito is MASARAP" (sorry for the
broken Tagalog). Seriously though, she would probably WOOF THAT MEAT DOWN!
And beg for more...

"More wine with your ASO?"

why don't you all lighten up about the dog/filipino comment! Its a fact that
in filipino culture, dog is considered food for a special occasion ( at least
that is my EXPERIENCE)!
If it is true that dog is eaten in a certain culture, accept it if someone
jokes about it,
ESPECIALLY if dog is not eaten in the culture of the person making the joke!
Don't be so sensitive... accept the actions of your kababayan!!
some of you proudly claim to be filipino, that is admirable, you also say you
have never tried dog... i am not filipino, yet i have tried it! If someone
jokes about me personally eating dog, i won't be offended and neither should
any filipino! Accept your culture, Embrace your culture, but don't get pissed
off at americans who joke about differences between filipino and american
differences.

I recall a news item a few years ago about a couple of Cambodian dudes
who were questioned by the local authorities. If I remember correctly
I think it was because some of the neighbors allege they were chasing
after strays and/or got "caught in the act" maltreating a mutt. I wouldn't
be surprised if Fifi is considered a delicacy in their native cuisine.

I agree with you. Where else in the world can you go to a restaurant
and pay for the opportunity of cutting into a slab of thawed raw cow
flesh, smother it with A-1 and call it steak, except in the U.S.A.?

Well, can't argue about that. You've got a point. Lou Diamond Phillips is
Filipino? I knew he was Native American. You forgot to mention Nia Peeples.

Who is Joan Rivers anyway? The lousy dresser who criticizes actors' and
actresses' dresses when she should be looking at herself. Even Americans
don't listen to her. That explains why she is on Cable and not on any
national network.

By the way, you can put Phoebe Cates, Tia Carrere, and Rob Schneider as
American actors with Filipino roots.

Sure but the problem is that Joan River's comment might inspire a movement
against cultures that eat canines.

You have to note that in Wisconsin there was a guy who killed a cat and got 12
years in prison for it! Where was that, the girl gave birth at her HS Prom
suffocated the baby and only got 3 or so years? I'ld bet there were
protesters in front of the Hollywood (or nearest) RP consulate the day after
that comment was made.

Also you have to view the comment in the whole context. A context which I
gladly missed (I will not spend any time watching Hollywood pat itself on the
back). On the Tonight Show I can understand such a comment as humor, maybe
the context in which Joan made the comment was also an attempt at humor. But
I can not see that such a comment made rigth before a commercial break would
be an attempt at humor.

And, reposting something which appeared in s.c.f some months ago:

DOG EATING IS NOW A CRIME

Malacanang, Feb. 13, 1998 - President Ramos has signed a law making it
a crime to slaughter dogs for meat.

With the passage of the Animal Welfare Act of 1998, President Ramos
noted that Filipinos "maintain our image as a nation whose compassion
is not only for humans but for animals as well."

Under Republic Act 8485, it is unlawful to kill animals other than
"cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits, carabaos, horses, deer
and crocodiles."
Other exceptions allow the killing of an animal when it is afflicted
with an incurable communicable disease, to put an end to its misery,
when the killing is done to prevent an imminent danger to the life or
limb or a human being, for the purpose of animal population control
and for authorized laboratory research or experiments.

The new law also prohibits the staging of dog fights and horse
fights, and requires the protection of the natural habitat of
wildlife.

Violators of the law face a fine of P1,000 to P5,000 and/or a jail
term of six months to two years for each offense.

Dogs and other animals not included int he list may, however, be
killed under certain circumstances, such as when their killing is
"part of a religious ritual of an established religion or sect or a
ritual required by tribal or ethnic custom of indigenous cultural
communities."

Don't worry about it. We, as a nation, tend to think if you don't do
things our way you aren't quite as "good" as we. It's a failing we have.
As for eating pussies, the last one I had was filipina and it was masarap!
Unfortunately, like most good things in my life it was a long time ago.

Tell you a story. When I married I lived in San antonio and my wife and I
were not command sponsored. In fact I was the first American Serviceman
to get official approval to live in San Antonio. I lived in a place called
Fabunan apartments. Anyway by not being command sponsored we were not
allowed to shop in the Navy Commissary and bought all our food at the
local market. There was a small bakery where we got our bread and the
bakery cooked pigs, dogs and whatever for people who had no ovens at home
(probably about 99% of the population at that time). I have nothing
against eating dog, or any other critter, but I have to admit the first
time I went for bread and found several dead dogs in pans waiting for
their turn in the oven I was a little taken aback.

If there's anyone out there from San Antonio whod would like to exchange
info it would be welcome by this old Kano. By the way I think I ate just
about everything in the P.I. except a balut. I can't specifically
remember eating a dog but, since my relatives did I must have. I never
got drunk enough for a balut and I quit drinking so I don't plan to ever
eat one. Of course I was first stationed there when they "aged" baluts in
the hot sand for a few weeks instead of just boiling them. Those rascals
smelled bad, looked bad and, the idea of them sounded bad.

Y'all take care now.

Actually Joan Rivers is correct in saying that all Filipinos eat dogs.

With that, Joan better watch out, because the Filipino people will eat her,
and her equally butt-ugly psychotic daughter too.

Phoebe Cates is part Chinese. I thought this was cleared up a long time
ago.

> Prince- aka the Artist/Prince Rogers Nelson- Is he part Filipino?

Yes, Prince has some Filipino somewhere in his ancestry, but it's kind of
ridiculous (not to mention vainly desperate) to flaunt him as "one of our
own" when it only makes up something like 0.05% of his ethnic makeup. What
is culture? Culture is based on experiences, and more likely having some
Filipino great-great granfather and nothing else means that he was never
exposed to the Filipino environment and experiences most of us grew up
with. Therefore he is not Pinoy. He also has some Swedish ancestry too. I
don't see the Swedes get all hyper about this. If anything, Prince is more
Italian than he is Pinoy.

I've heard of this c*t meat in siopao from my mom, that's why she
does not eat anything from chinese restaurants to this day,but I did not
believe her. Anyway, when I came to his country, I met a chinese lady, I
forgot where she is from. I asked her if it is true about the cat meat
and she confirmed that there is a place in China where cat meat is eaten.
Then I met another chinese, they're all over the place anyway, and I
asked her too, and she said yes but not by everybody, just like the dog
meat in RP.

So she is Filipino? I thought she was Chinese. I'm not sure if she actually has
Hawaiian blood in her though. And Tia Carera is not her real name. Can't remember
her real name.

And how convenient for someone to say that her father is "Cebuano". Geez, my
paternal grandmother came from there. But my grandmother told me she was Visayan,
not Cebuano. *L* I too am about 50% Visayan. I say "about" only because I don't
count the Spanish/Gypsy blood.

Nia Peeple's mother looked like she was Filipino. And yet Nia said she use to
perform Hawn. dances. So not sure if her mother was a filipina from HI or what.
But too bad she denied that part of her earlier. Denying one part of their ethnic
group from the way I was brought up, is like denying your ancestor. In her case, it
would be her mom. :-)

Plus her Cantonese was definitely not natural for her. I may not speak

I forgot her real name, but it's neither Tia nor Carrera. The "Carrera"
part supposedly came from her admiration of actress Barbara Carrera. I
forget where the "Tia" part comes from.

won't tire of -- but this? time to trash and move on.

alt.fan.carrera.and.diamond.balls and i'll post mine at the alt.bitch
groups. fair?

It's all cool. I don't know why Athos13 is all in a huff. The other 25
days of the month he appears to be fairly cool. Maybe it's the bloating
or water retention that's getting to him. It'll pass. Otherwise, stay
frosty, my friend.

Bob

Actually, flame away if you like. It's a healthy release, so long as we
remember that its all cyber nonsense.

I agree, no harm done. I know what you mean. But I also think we're
ALL guilty of it from time to time of extending a thread frivolously or
posting needlessly.

You've contributed your share of thoughtful posts, and so has AZMIK.
I'd just hate to see you guys get into it the wrong way with each other
when both of you offer the NG so much.

Take care dude. Let's find something good to talk about.

I heard her one time as a guest in Howard Stern's show and she mentioned that
her husband is Italian and she is a Hawaian. What is the cuzz of mentioning to
be a Filipina anyway? Are we worthy for a dollar? Just kidding but Hollywood is
full of lies and to lie for profit is worthy...he he he. Sorry folks ...that is
how business goes.

*** MY COMMENTS:

Since I am not at all privy to Ms. Joan Rivers' "convulted"
reasoning (RE: Statements derogatory against ***THE***
Filipino people) in her recent remarks, allow me to afford
her the benefit of the doubt. Let me be understood also
when I state in the most unequivocal terms possible that,
taking at face-value her comments, the above-named
subject appears to have such a woeful confession of
failure - and unfortunate inability - to deal rationally
on certain biases (within her) against the Filipino
people at large.

That failure, to me, exemplifies the sarcastic and
condescending attitude of select individuals who view
through their myopic perspectives, then castigate
to the point of derisive ridicule, "unacceptable and
totally revolting eccentricities" of other nationalities.

All due respect to Ms. J. Rivers' tremendous accomplish-
ments in the communication media, her unprovoked and
misplaced remarks showed her complete and gross
ignorance of other people's way of life; corollary to that,
her slothfulness in making a determined effort of
comprehension to what other cultures and nationalities
may have to offer ***POSITIVELY*** in the enrichment
of contemporary American society.

MY COMMENTS:

My initial assessment with this Howard Stern is to
treat him and his vitriolic verbal volleys ***from an
arm's length***; more so from my opinion that his
role in cheapo-trash-talk cum Freedom of Speech
rights are predominantly geared MORE SO towards
higher percentage ratings in overall listening audiences.

Put it more succintly, the saying "... Words are like
leaves where the most abound; much sense of fruit
beneath is ***RARELY*** found ..." apply completely
to Mr. Stern and his acrimonious utterances.

Where Mr. H. Stern would wish to debate the issues
solely on their merits, NO offended Filipino would fail
to rectify a wrongdoing. NOTHING SLOTHFUL ON
THAT as I am aware of a number of scholarly Pinoys
willing to take the cudgels in a credible forum and proceed
to smother this fellow's false and unwarranted charges.
Failing that, it is not even worth dignifying his assertions;
doing so brings any reputable person to his perigee
and low level.
