Let's talk about the kabaduyan (past and present) in the Philippines.

Here's one......

Remember when people started adding the letter "H" to their
names/nicknames (i.e., MHike, PeHter, VHilma....)
ANG BADUY MO!?!?!

Is the "baduy" word unique in the Filipino language? I don't know whether
there is a comparable word for it in english. "Out of fashion" doesn't
seem to mean the same thing. Is the "baduy" word a reflection of a
Filipino personallity called "pintasero." Are Filipinos really "pintasero
and pintasera" more so than other nationalities?

Inquiring mind wants to know.

Just wondering...is that why you removed the "H" from "Jon"? :-)

Maybe, from now on I'll use the "H" word.

Lest not forget the irreplacable "Mongol" por pencil
and "Bic" por ballpen.
Typing about this makes me wanna go back to grade school. Not that my
mentality has improved since then, ha!

It doesn't quite get it, but "tacky" comes to mind.

What about "Kotex" for sanitary napkins? "Juicy" for gum?
Question: Why do some people say i-stones for stones and i-school for school???

Somewhere along these lines mentioned by Marissa, here are similar stories:
1) Overheard 2 Pinoys talking in downtown San Francisco:

Maria: Kilala mo ba si Iskat Ismit? (Do you know Scott Smith?)

Clara: Siya ba yung ismut ang iskin? (Is he they guy with smooth skin?)

Maria: Hindi - yung magaling mag iski sa isno (No! He's the guy who's good
at snow skiing!)

2) 2 old time Pinoys overheard talking at Neiman-Mar...shalls :)

Nanang was helping tatang over the purchase of a dress shirt.

Nanang:Ito o-bagay sa iyo.Isukat mo.(This one's very becoming. Try it on
for size)

Tatang: Bakit di na lang ereng isa - ereng kulay bagoong! (Why not this
other one instead - this one with the mauve color).

Funny but it's true (pex man - true story talaga!).

My favorite of these is when Royal, the company that makes
Tru-Orange, came out with other flavors like grape and cherry.
"Ale, pabili nga ng Orange na grape".
