Soldiers return from hostilities fighting for life
MORE THAN 1,000 WOUNDED IN IRAQ HAVE BEEN TREATED AT D.C. HOSPITAL
By Joseph L. Galloway
Knight Ridder

WASHINGTON - Almost every night, American soldiers come home from Iraq the hard
way.

Planes land at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington, and ambulances ferry
the injured to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where doctors and nurses stand
ready to rush them into the operating rooms.

More than 1,000 injured American soldiers have flowed through Walter Reed since
the war in Iraq began in March, and 300 others have arrived from Afghanistan
since the U.S. invasion in October 2001. Since early July, two months after
President Bush declared major combat over, there have been just two days when
the hospital has not had soldier casualties.

``We are in this for the long haul,'' said Maj. Gen. Kevin C. Kiley, a doctor
who is the commander of Walter Reed. ``This is going to continue for a long,
long time.''

They come with severe shrapnel wounds, missing limbs and often blood
infections. But of the 1,300 who have passed through Walter Reed, only one has
died.

``Each day, eight to 10 patients are leaving to go home or to facilities nearer
their homes, even as new casualties are arriving,'' Kiley said.

Lost limbs

Ward 57 is the orthopedic ward, the place where the limbless go. Its patients
tug at everyone's hearts. Bush has visited there twice. So have wrestler Hulk
Hogan and the Washington Redskins cheerleaders.

Spec. Robert Acosta, 20, of Santa Ana is there with a smashed left ankle and
foot but without his right arm. He and friend drove off base in a Humvee on
July 13 to buy some soda from peddlers on the streets of Baghdad.

``A hand grenade came through the window and landed on the radio between me and
my buddy who was driving,'' Acosta said. ``Just as I grabbed for it, my buddy
hit the gas and rammed the truck in front of us, trying to get out of that
area. The grenade fell between my legs on the floor. I grabbed for it again and
had it maybe six inches off the floor when it exploded.

``I told my buddy, `I'm going to die; tell my Mom and Dad I love them.' He
hollered: `Shut up! You ain't dying. Tell them yourself!' I was more scared
than hurt.''

He added: ``All I want to do is be able to run again.''

Acosta said he plans to leave the Army because he fears he will end up behind a
desk. ``I couldn't stand that. I would rather be out there with my buddies.''

Acosta said he heard that it was a 13-year-old Iraqi boy who tossed the grenade
that changed the course of his life.

Glad to go home

Another patient at Walter Reed, Sgt. Jason Bill, 30, of Douglasville, Ga., had
a grin on his face. He was headed home -- in a wheelchair. One leg is in an
intricate contraption of metal rods, which is a substitute for a plaster cast
for 16 weeks while the shattered bones heal.

A month ago, Bill and two other soldiers were in a Humvee in Baghdad when it
crashed or rolled -- he doesn't know or remember. Both his lower legs were
crushed, his lower left arm was broken and his left elbow was dislocated. One
soldier was killed, and another was hospitalized with Bill in that accident.

He has 12 years of service in both the Army and the National Guard, and ``if
they'll let me, I plan to stay in.''

Sgt. Robert Armstrong, 38, of Fort Hood, Texas, was helping guard the
children's hospital in Baghdad on July 26. There were rumors of an imminent
rocket-propelled-grenade attack. ``We pulled our vehicles back closer to the
hospital building, behind a wall,'' Armstrong said.

It turned out the danger was not from the outside. ``Someone dropped a hand
grenade off a balcony of the hospital, and it blew me up,'' Armstrong said. He
lost his right leg and his left eye.

His wife, Esther, said she was told that he nearly died twice. They have two
children, Scott, 17, who has signed up for a program for high school seniors to
enlist in the Marines, and Mary, 15, who her father predicts will be a war
protester and move to Berkeley.

Despair and hope

Sgt. Matthew Dewitt, 26, of Hillsboro, N.H., sat on the edge of his hospital
bed, exhausted by a tough session of physical therapy. A
rocket-propelled-grenade explosion July 22 ripped off both his hands as he sat
in the gun position atop a Humvee. ``I don't know what I'll do,'' he said. ``I
don't know what's there for me to do now.''

Sgt. Michael Cain, 22, of Berlin, Wis., lost his right leg just below the knee
and broke an ankle when his vehicle hit a mine Aug. 10. He had been at Walter
Reed for five days. He was in the operating room for seven hours of surgery the
day before he was interviewed. He would go back the next day for two or three
more hours.

``I'm going to be all right, sir,'' Cain said from his hospital bed. As a
visitor said goodbye, Cain beckoned him to his bedside and pulled him down for
a tight cheek-to-cheek hug. He whispered, ``I'm going to be OK.''

In the beginning, I supported the war in Iraq. I believed Powel's
testimony to The UN about "Weapons of Mass Destruction". Upon going to
The Philippines last November (Cebu & Cagayan De Oro) my support
intensified. Anyone against this war I truly believed to be a traitor
scum, Anti-American Eurotrash or a Muslim.
NOW I don't know if this war should continue.
How many Americans are we willing to bring back in bags before we say no
more?
Where are the WMD?? Was this just one big LIE? Am I NOW the traitor I
once thought other Americans of being? How could I have been lied to?
I never had one ounce of resentment toward George Bush and I STILL
Don't. But I DO want to know a few things.

1. WMD? when will they be found?
2. When will this Iraq war end?
3. how much will this war Cost?
4 where is "Osama Bin Forgotten"?
5. Why does Saudi Arabia get off scott free? (remember 15 of the 19)
6. If we love our soldiers so much, why are VA Hospitals so shamefully
underfunded?

Just a few questions.

Does it matter now?

The war will end as soon as the US is out, then civil war will start. The
reason there is continuing fights has nothing to do with Saddam and Ba'ath
Party now, it is because we are still in occupation.

Iraqi oil is supposed to pay for it, that is why it is constantly being
sabotaged.

when were the va funds slashed? it has always been my belief that peacemaker
warriors are paid lipservice by most politicians because the polits are whores
at heart and they dont know what to do with the warriors once there is peace.

VA hospitals have always been in trouble financially, all over the country. The
funds go up and down, it doesn't matter who is in power, Republicans or Democrats.
Reagan started slashing funds for a number of things(including closing some
hospitals), and Clinton continued it, together with base closings.
Then, there's corruption and overspending as well(an old problem that goes way back
to the founding of the nation). While perusing the web, I found that
representatives in the areas that has hospitals have to ask congress for funding
everytime, seems like an endemic problem.

No wonder, since the 70's veterans have told me that they're better off not
depending on it. Surgeries are of the "field" types of surgery, not enough doctors
and nurses, but the place looks nice.

And where is that shrewd, 2nd man in Washington hiding again? Now you
see him, now you don't. This is one of the men they call hawks. Has he
turned into a chicken once again?

I saw this war then as more of a distraction from the homefront.
Funny how it literally went this far. The initial question everyone
was asking -- in the midst of the economic debacle even before 9/11
under Bush and Cheney leadership; Enron disaster which was edging
towards a possible Bush and Cheney investigation -- was why the war
now? It turned out that, adding to the disastrous elements they were
facing, the local elections was looming on the horizon and the war was
the only available marketing pitch conservatives had. In effect, 9/11
became one big pretext.

In the midst of all these, I remembered Cheney, who was clearly in
deep trouble at the time, coming out of nowhere, after weeks of hiding
from the press and now felt safe to appear, being that the war drum
has already started rumbling initiated by his pals, was not talking
about his association with Ken Lay which everyone was curious about
but instead talked about Hussein having WMD, gassed his own people, ad
nauseum, ad infinitum and barely hinting a connection to Al Qaeda.
After that brief appearance the cunning VP went back in hiding again
possibly laughing his ass off how easily he and his buddies could
divert American's attention from a possible investigation. If he were
a liberal, conservatives would have kicked his ass mercilessly.

Who else but Cheney is preventing a UN participation? It's as if, as
Biden says, we won a price and not willing to share a piece.

<snip ignorant drivel>

Your ignorance about Enron is impressive. Perhaps you can explain how the
Bush-Cheney White House was involved in a scandal that started under
Clinton's administration, and their sole input was to *deny* the request
from Enron to intercede for them? Perhaps you can explain how Clinton's
Secretary of Commerce, Ron Brown, who died in a controversial accident in
Croatia (amazing how many people around Clinton died mysterious deaths...)
brokered deals for Enron in Africa and India. Perhaps you can explain how
Enron introduced Clinton's staff to Lippo Industries and from them to
China's People's Liberation Army which supported Clinton's re-election
campaign via John Huang. Perhaps you can explain how Clinton lobbied for
Enron on the Dabhol energy project in India, and how Clinton's ambassador to
India took a seat on the board of directors of an Enron company after
leaving government service. Perhaps you can explain how Ken Lay was a
frequent Clinton golf partner, and slept many times in the Lincoln Bedroom.
Perhaps you can explain how the phone call that was made on Enron's behalf
asking the Bush White House to assist Enron was made by Clinton's former
Secretary of the Treasury, Robert Rubin. Perhaps you can explain why Joe
Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee at the time
(2002) refused to question Rubin in regards the matter even when called upon
by members of the committee investigating Enron ties to the government to do
so.

"The Clinton administration provided more than $1 billion in subsidized
loans to Enron Corp. projects overseas at a time when Enron was contributing
nearly $2 million to Democratic causes." (Washington Times, Feb. 21, 2002)

Perhaps you can explain why more corporate executives have been arrested and
tried under the Bush administration in two years than were arrested during
Clinton's 8 years when all of the thievery was taking place. Perhaps you
can explain how the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Terry
McAuliffe, turned a $100k investment into an $18 million profit with Global
Crossings on the advice of chairman Gary Winnick... just before Global
Crossings went bankrupt (perhaps you can also elaborate on Winnick's gifts
of millions of dollars to the Clinton library while you are at it).

Ah, another rehash of the same, old alleged Clinton aberrations which
were already quashed thousands of times in the media. It's clear that
you, right-wingers, just want to believe what you want to believe.

Perhaps you can explain why right-wingers seem to be more interested
in investigating Clinton's sexual activities than serious matters such
as those you enumerated.

Hey, for once you are partially right! Congratulations. It must feel good,
being a unique experience.

In following up, I discovered that the Ken Lay-Clinton Golf and Lincoln
bedroom stories are apparently false (they did play golf together once in a
foursome, but Lay never stayed at the White House as far as the records
show. I may be excused from this because many other papers and pundits
quoted these things without fact-checking, either, and as usual I
multi-sourced but got confirmation).

But...

Unless you can refute facts like Robert Rubin making the call for Enron to
the White House (he did...) and Clinton's administration taking an active
role in promoting Enron's interests in Africa and India (they did -- Hillary
also made a trip to India around this time, and may have been involved in
talks about the power project), and Clinton getting money from John Huang
provided by the Chinese gummint (he did), then your conspiracy theory about
Cheney belongs in the realm of Elvis citings.

> Perhaps you can explain why right-wingers seem to be more interested

Rape is not a sexual matter, it is a criminal assault. Compromising
national security by making secure phone calls while getting a BJ from a
girl without security clearance is a national security issue. Lying before
a grand jury is a criminal offense.

Clintonistas love to say "it was just about sex." That's like saying the
Brits persecuted Kim Philby because he was gay. You need to look beyond the
sex to the crimes that accompanied it.

But keep trying. At least you know something about grammar and
capitalization, a welcome change.

So........Why would An American that spends 6 months in The Philippines
each winter? All The Philippines has to offer is Sex? Is this how poorly
some of you think of your homeland?

THEN some think the only thing worse than paying for sex is one NOT
paying for it?? WTF? CANO, you know little about The Philippines. I
don't pay for sex like you did 20 or 30 years ago up in Angeles City. I
have traveled to Places in The PI that you guys probably have NEVER been
to. I deal with the positives and negatives of The PI as they come to
me.

In The last 6 month PI trip I was exposed to some of the "darker
sides" of PI Culture. Although I'm young, i'm not invincible. I have
mellowed, choosing my associations more carefully. Any guy who does not
have at least a little fear of a girlfriends "Filipino Farther" (in The
PI that is) is either ignorant of the possibilities or is an open
Homosexual.

Cano, YOU are now an old man, probably about 50, with a Filipino wife
and kids living in The former Slave State of Texas, deal with it. I'm
sorry last year I accused you of being Non white, Non American (I know
this must have hurt you). After reading your foolish posts about race,
I Just knew you could NOT be a Filipino. I have tried to maintain a bit
of civility this Summer but you continue to spew your predictable crap.
You live in The "Jasperized" State of Texas filled with rednecks that
(you admitted) HATE your dark Brown, flat nosed kids. Your Caucasian
genes where not passed well and Guess what? -----> That's NOT my fault.

I find The Philippines to be liberating & filled with life. One day I
could be viewing ancient rice terraces. I can swim under the 220 foot
Katibawasan falls on Camiguen Island. I also like the Volcanic "Ardent
Hot Sprigs." Sometimes I traverse long ,narrow, mountainous dirt roads
by Motorcycle.
Sure I have a nice girlfriend or 2, so what? But the Philippines has
a hell of a lot more to offer than good pussy.

He lives with his mommy in a bad part of town during the year (we have his

the provinces on $1500 a month, which anyone without a house, apartment or

Focus, son. If you understand that I am a whiteboy like you, then the
Philippines cannot be my "homeland".

The Philippines offers much more than sex. Based upon what you have written
about seeking sex in Thailand and the Philippines, and the fact that until

To claim that you have traveled to places "you guys probably have NEVER been
to" is absurd. There are folk here who have traveled all over the islands
for 40 years, and who were born in places where you would have been
kidnapped and beheaded.

Which way to the bath houses?

Here's a thought -- if you don't screw with people, if you don't go where
you shouldn't without local friends, if you don't take advantage of the
locals, you wouldn't have to worry.

You have me conpuse with DSP (this often happens; the physical resemblance
is uncanny). I live in The former Free State of the Peoples Republic of
Kalifornia, soon to be renamed either "Aztlan" or "New Austria."

I only have one dark Brown, flat-nosed kid, who is so damn handsome he makes
JT look like Abe Vigoda. I have one exotically beautiful, fair daughter
(who spends hours trying to darken on the beach to no avail) whose features
strongly reflect her 1/16th Chinese blood. I have one very white little boy
who has earned my wife the comment from Filipinas she has met in the park,
"Oh, so you are a nanny. How do you like it?"

It is true that my nose was not passed along. I regret this, but no one
else does (remark made by the pastor's wife when she saw me as a newborn:
"Poor baby. Looks just like his grandpa.").

See, this is a difference between us. I would never write the last
sentence, much less think it. Is "pussy" different in the States and the
PI? No. What differs is your ability to purchase it or scam it.

When you can come back from your little "sabbaticals" and not mention sex
one time I will be willing to take you off my list of sex tourists. You
see, no one else here who lives there or visits brings up the subject
because it's not what draws us to the Philippines or defines our visits.
Until then, you head the list. Fair Enough?

Randy I am proud of you standing up to this guy and saying what needs to be
said.

I sure like that morality thang of yours and I am happy to look up to you as
you take the moral high ground.

Indeed we have had posters here married to Filipinas who have brought
relatives to the good old USA worked them and haven't even have the decency
to tell immigration or pay taxes. Shameful people Randy and certainly not
cursed with that "morality thang" of yours its a great comfort to me Randy
knowing that you would never do such a thing, would you Randy, especially
with all you have had to say about illegal workers in California.

Then there are those who abhor corruption and well let face it morally
corruption can never be accepted and definitely not by someone like your
good self standing on there on that moral high ground; btw hope you don't
have vertigo. The thought of you Randy standing there on high firm of chin
and even firmer of buttock brings a tear to my eye. These people of such low
morals are so corrupt that they even advocate the paying of bribes at NAIA,
Ninoy is spinning in his grave as we speak.

But you Randy given that "morality thang" of yours would never be so
hypocritical to act as the person mentioned above, God bless you good sir
and curse the morally corrupt such as the poster you replied to.

God bless and three cheers for Randy a man who has always act within his
strict moral code. Never can it be said that Randy is "a two faced
hypocritical twat".

Heh heh. When I have relos visiting and give them money, whether they help
or not, *I* pay the taxes at a much higher rate. Every cent I get from
clients is reported to the gummint on a 1099, and I pay taxes on it. In
fact, if they were citizens and paying taxes, they would be of an income
level where they would pay *no* taxes. Instead, the government gets paid
taxes at *my* rate, which is about 35%.

The gummint would be much worse off if they were employees. Indeed, they
would be eligible for social services. As my guests, not doing work that
takes away from any other employment helping around the house, they are
neither a drain on society nor violating any law.

See, it's like this. I know you cannot understand this, but my in laws like
to stay with us in a big house with plenty to do and always food on the
table. They help around the house, it's true. We give them an allowance
(about what my eldest son got - I never reported my kids' allowance, either.
Scoflaw that I am). That allows them to buy presents, do things with
friends, and even send stuff back home.

Of course, that is immoral to you, because you really have no clue what
morality is and you are so tight you would never give a family member a
dime. That is because you have no morals, and look upon anyone with
convictions as a radical. But I challenge you to explain how this in any
way contradicts *anything* I have said about illegal immigration. I have
been approached by family members wanting to go TNT and I have explained
that I would not assist and would not be happy with them putting me in that
situation. My family members are not a drain on the system. They are not
depressing salaries. Their medical is paid by me (I've started getting
temporary HMO coverage on anyone staying longer than a month because several
have cost me a bundle). They are all here legally, and never overstay their
visas. They are not taking a job from anyone else (they don't do anything
other than as a co-dwelling family member -- it simply means my wife doesn't
cook every day; typically, the men do nothing). They are not in schools;
one SIL drives one of our vehicles legally under an international license
with insurance paid by me.

So, moonpie, you are completely off base. Heh heh heh.

Indefatigable Pig

ps - great post -- your grammar was pretty accurate and you hardly misused
any words at all, and didn't repeat your fascination with my weight five or
six times as usual! Keep up the good work!

Sniped lot and lots and lots and lots of the drivel Randy's puts forward in
a bizarre attempt at self-justification.

Randy you bring people to the USA on tourists visas work them and pay them
for that work, that is simply illegal no matter what kind of Clintonesque
spin you put on it. Is it immoral? Well I am really surprised that a man of
your alleged moral standing doesn't find it so.

You call it an allowance I call it a wage. Your spin is rather similar to
that used by some Democrat caught paying illegals an "allowance" to work a
few years ago. I must say I like that one Randy you are helping the country
by breaking the rules.

But off course that still leave the corruption you have admitted to being
involved in while in the Philippines.

Families Randy, you do tend to drag you relatives though this group as if
they were your property and never miss a chance to come across as the great
white benefactor. You even posted about a relative who is a GRO, even where
she works did you ask her before you posted that information. You really
don't understand just how foolish you are, I am not sure if any of your
friends here have explained to you yet but you behaviour is a 'no no' in
Philippine culture. Actually it is an 'no no' among most decent people.

Lardy your pathetic attempts at putting a spin on morality is laughable or
perhaps its all relative.

Grammar spelling...lol Lardy I know you don't have a life but I do I type

Kano, its unfortunate that I was not blessed with your high "morals".
Your moral teachings are such a gift, thank you. You, formally being in
The Religious Bidness and all.
I don't "live with Mommy" or "live in a Slum" or take money from
dah Gummint. I have my own Condo in an average part of town. I refuse
to make claims that i'm rich (like others in this NG) but I'm
comfortable.
Cano, you claim its ok to Fu*k Whores and take advantage of girls
in The PI as long as one does this in The States too. WTF? Cano, it is
YOU that has fu*k up morals.
So, why thumb your nose at someone who is "a House Painter"? or
working for "McDonalds"? I would think A man of your "Morals" would not
act like that.

I see selfrightious White guys like you in The PI from time to time.
Some like to roam around the Visayas "Enlightening the little ones" with
their particular Fu*ked up brand of JeeesUS Fundamentalism. Most are
old, Southern white guys like you that love to be worshipped by their
admiring brown flock. Often they are MORE sick than the "Sex Tourists"
they Selfrightously Condemn.
"EvanJOE-lists" sometimes walk into Micky-D's at the Divisoria in CDO
to talk with fellow Gringos. I give them my standard line. Look Jethro,
Your my fellow American and we can help each other out, but put your
bible away for a moment. Once they insist on preaching to me, I tell
them exactly where to place their book.

You know there is still a minor debate as to whether the General (can't
remember the detail of the person or even if he was a general) who is said
to be responsible for Jackson being called Stonewall was praising or

Well well Bobby "Chin" (nice Name) Your sorry pussyless days in Boston
are over. Its time for you to go home now. I wanted to take the high
road but "Cum on his Chin" needs a bitch slap.
You know NOTHING about Lowell, or its very nice "American" areas
like Belvidere, The Highlands or Christian Hill. if you did, you would
not say such foolish statements. and its a hell of a lot better than the
Manila shack that excreted you. Lets not talk about "slums" now. "Chin"
You're the one pissed about you're sister Right? Ha ha You Hate the
fact that you will have a honky Brother inlaw.

As far as "Slummy" areas of Lowell. Well, Lowell has some --->
'Welfare Zones" and "Refugee areas" Just like parts of Boston. These
areas are filled with "non deportable foreigners"--> "instant Green
Card"----> Refugee scammers"---------> Cambodians, Kemers, Vietnamese,
Homong and others. so called "Refugees" are immediately eligible for
"Gummint" Housing, "Gummint" Heat assistance, Food Stamps, Mass Health
and EVEN Clothing allowance. All thanks to The 'Mercan Taxpayer. I guess
this has helped me form my 'pinions about immigration (Legal AND
illegal). Deport 'em back to Asia and we'd have to lay off hap the
Police force, hap Da Domestic Violence task force, Hap a DSS and
"Community Team work" people (CTI). Can't do that now. Den we we'd hap
2 rehire a "Dog officer" because no one would be 'round to catch Da
"Stray Cambo Dinners."

Chin, Youah just pissed 'cause I can actually GO to The Philippines
and you CAN'T, just like the rest of the 900,000 TNT's.

Bobby Chin, a true "Chinese Filipino." Every single Filipino I met
HATED The "Chinese Filipino." Hell, I even met a guy in CDO named "John
Lee" that even hated "Chinese Filipinos". Not me though, I like The
"Chinese Filipino", The Clannish, unassimilated, Cebu men have always
been good to The white guys. Nice Nice people, one Chinese guy in Cebu
wanted me to marry his daughter. He liked me very much. He would
proudly state that his family has not one drop of "ugly Filipino blood"
(nice guy). He vowed to shoot any "Darkie" that got near his daughter.
A true "Hitleresque" kinda guy. I could nott pomis em' Da bu eyes or Da
Blond Hair or Da big nose for his grannn Sun.

Make all da "House Paintah" references you want, .You're just pissed,
you can't even talk about the Philippines because you can't go back.

If you want to continue flaming you can, (that's all you seem to like).
We can go even lower like talking about Chinese Girls in Boston that
never would even look at a guy like "Cum on his Chin". I would rather
not go in that direction.

That's an excellent point. But I think relos helping out whilst on holidays
is such a bad thing. I know of many Flips who ask their parents or siblings
to come over and help in the child minding whilst they work. Relos gets paid
some reasonable money. But the most important point is, THE RELO NEVER

At the end of the day, it boils down to the same thing. Peepz like Randy

Are you stupid you know as I do that any, any payment for work while
visiting Australia on a tourist visa is ILLEGAL. Just as YOU pointed out in
the thread on the Filipino family in the USA if they are illegal they
shouldn't be in the country or is it one rule for them and another rule for

At the "end" it's illegal.

Randy is just a plain old fashioned religious hypocrite. He comes here
pontificating about home moral he is and how immoral others are when all the

Just curious Johnny Boy do you hate this guy because he is poor? Is there
something intrinsically bad about people who live in public housing? I am
curious as it seems to me that you Lardy and Mr.Chin and a few other seem to
believe that if he is poor he is worthless. Do you feel that way about all
poor people? It's like Bizarre Becky and her the poor are poor because they
are stupid or lazy rant not one of the morally up right here said a word to
her.

I have met very successful and educated people who have the same attitude to
the Philippines as Mr. Mahoney sure wasn't the TNT guy just the same. Are
these people more to your taste?

you like Bizarre Becky have a strange idea as to why there is inequality in
the world.

I tell you what. Go to the Dept of Immigration and tell the authorities that

Whatever you say, Leprechaun boy. At the end of the day, as long as my

When you meet people is you first question to them, "what do you do for a
living"? I fear it maybe, is this how you value yourself as person, what you
do? or what you own? Is that the extent of your worth to you friends and
society.

What is wrong with people who are carpenters or plumbers or people you make

Next time you your mother fills in an application for a tourist visa tell
her to write 'will be paid a wage for helping out with chores while visiting
my son' when they reject her visa tell the INS it is a feeble excuse and
they are unfortunate excuses for humans. I am sure after that she will have

JT I don't know what you do maybe you concept of generosity is to work the
shit out of your mother for three months and pay her 100 pesos per day. To
be truthful JT I wouldn't be surprised.

I not much into violence myself but yes it is not nice to be stingy but as
you know from your limited contact with the Irish we are generous to a
fault. Certainly when my own mother came to visit (God rest her soul) she
didn't have to do any chores paid for or otherwise. But from what you have
told us JT its obvious you work you mother when she gets to Australia and
pay her a pitance. To me that shows little respect for you mother I cant
believe you bring her there to work for you SHAME ON YOU. Do you treat all

Actually the only reason she does chores is because she's bored sometimes.
We don't need her to do the chores but in our Filipino culture, to refuse

as i said such panglalait or belittling of status and work is considered
unfilipino , ignorant, bad manners, and bastos in REAL philippine society.
for the leech elite class that has a foot on the majority of filipinos necks
in the pinas it might be ok so it might show where some of the people here [
hint not the pilipinas ] are coming from . in Real philippine society where
most people are poor you dont go around telling the mambababsora[ junkman ] ,
the laborer , the farmer , or the regular every day juan mangagawa [ worker]
that their status is beneath the rich coz they are poor or work dirty jobs.
if you do, you might die or get beat up and the rest of the neighborhood
will just watch and laugh at your snobbish ass. this is a good time to say
this coz monday is labor day. i dont see a yuppie day being celebrated. labor
day because without labor the yuppie factories, transportation, and luxuries
will grind to a ignominous halt.

"Wannabe" American Chinky Chin knows nothing about The American
work ethic. Before he fled Manila I bet he grew his pinky nail Long just

I could just picture this wannabe Yank strutting around an SM Mall in

I truly believe stigmas placed on Labor in The Philippines by scum

that have helped ruin The PI.
Now he wants to act the same here in America, well sorry Chin, its time

Japan, Malaysia or HK, Americans don't need or want your illegal Chinky
ass in their Country.

Traveling in The PI for 6 months, I'm cheap, So what? its not a
crime. I've done my share of helping Pinoys from time to time. I have
found Many Filipinos to be generous to a Fault. I here many words used
to describe Chinamen like Chin in The Philippines, "generous" is never
used to describe a Chink in The PI. This is why he's not even considered
a real Filipino.
Filipinos HATE The CHINESE. (But not me, I like Chinks).

He's a "Wannabe" American illegal immigrant. If I was as "poor" as he
wishes. How the hell could I travel for 6 months? He spews bullshit lies
about me being an American "Sex Tourist" because he's jealous----> "Crab

He does not post much about The PI because he is a "Wannabe"
American. Some people here Make jokes about French People because they
feel more "American" or "Australian". Never been a big French fan myself
but its kinda sick making jokes about dead Elderly heat wave victims,
Reveals more about the teller than the French.

Unlike Chinky Chin, I don't travel to another Country and attempt to
belittle some of its Honest Citizens as a guest. Americans welcome
Foreigners from All over the world including Filipinos and will continue
to do so. Chin however, needs to be deported back to The Philippines or
better yet, the mountains of Western China.

Where did you get this? I've never said anything of the kind. I don't
condemn the girls who believe it necessary to be prostitutes, but I have
nothing but contempt for anyone who pays them. That's anywhere in the
world.

> So, why thumb your nose at someone who is "a House Painter"? or

Like Moonbeam, you obviously don't understand what "morals" or "morality"
are. Morality involves a value judgment of right and wrong behavior.
Looking down on you as a housepainter who works just enough to go off
whoring in third-world countries is not a moral judgment as far as your
"vacation" activity, it is a contemptuous put-down of your abilities,
education and achievements. Is that clear now?

Blatant how? I am many things, but a hypocrite is not one of them. I
think, talk and act consistently.

Like Moonshine, you bristle at anyone who reminds you of morality. You know
what you do is wrong, but you are too weak not to do it. So you attack
those you know are right who criticize you. If you can somehow impeach
those who remond you of your weakness, you can feel better about yourself.

Attacking people with values you violate does not make you right, it just
highlights your inadequacies.

Naw, Moonie, we just have a problem with sex tourists. I never had you
figured to be on the same page as sex tourists (you may not be on my
Christmas card list, but I don't think you were ever a sex tourist --
although I wonder that you bring up SCT which has a lot of them).

Vinnie came in here a year ago, bragging about screwing his way through
Thailand and other third-world countries until he realized he could live
cheaper in the RP and get girls to sleep with him by flashing his passport,
saying he loved them, and making promises he never intended to keep. Sure,
he has to worry about brothers and fathers, but that adds spice to the game.

Geez, Vinnie, is this stupidity or a short-term memory failure? BC was born
in the US. His connection to the Philippines is his seventh wife and 18
kids. He doesn't write about his experiences in the PI because, due to that
damn RICO conviction, they won't let him in.

Repeat after me: Booby Chin is a born-in-America American of Chinese

And DSP is a born-in-America American of Swedish extraction. And I am a
born-in-America American of Californio extraction.

First I was a wannabe Yank. Now Chin is. We know JT is, but that's another
matter.

Try to keep the characters straight. I'm fish-belly white. Chin's high
yallar. JT's sort of pond-scum brown. I'm an Am-Am, Chin's an Am-Am, JT's
a Phil-Oz.

I know it's confusing, but stick with it. You'll learn.

> I truly believe stigmas placed on Labor in The Philippines by scum

Ah. Blame the intsik. Certainly some business people of Chinese extraction
have visited economic iniquity on the Philippines, but the problems are much
deeper, broader and more complicated than that.

Well, Moonbeam, I suppose you are used to being wrong.

No, I don't bring people here on tourist visas and work them. I do
generally have between 1 and 5 family members visiting from the RP (right
now, we have one from NJ for 10 days), and yes I pay their air fare.

My family visits to visit. My wife misses her sisters (if I wanted to
import workers, I'd import her brothers...), and I indulge her. They have a
great life with us -- travel, food, entertainment, air con and a lifestyle
that seems rather opulent to them. They are a part of the family -- if they
come for a short visit, they are waited upon by my wife and me, if they stay
long term they help around the house. Just like I do when we visit the RP.

I don't import workers. Now, you don't understand that, because you've
probably never paid for a family member to visit you. But just because you
don't understand it, doesn't mean it isn't so.

Do I give them money? Sure. Do I give them a set amount for work? No. Do
they save it, send it home, or spend it all here? I have no idea. I know

Now I understand what you do for a living. You are a tax attorney licensed
in California. Right? I mean, you understand all of this so well...

By your definition, I was also breaking the law (being "immoral" in your
confusion of terms) when I had my kids (underage, no legal status) do chores
around the house and gave them an allowance.

Turn me in. And listen to the laughter...

Now, let us do a little intellectual analysis of your critique of my
"hypocritical" stance on illegal immigration:

I am against illegal immigrants, who either enter the country illegally or
overstay visas. My family enter legally and leave before their visas
expire.

I am against employers who do a cash business and either a) do not declare
income to defraud the government or b) write off fraudulent cash payrolls to
illegals to avoid paying taxes. All of my income is declared to the gummint
by my contractees, and I pay taxes on any gifts I make to family members
(they are not deductable). I pay at a very high rate. If I paid this to
anyone who would have to pay taxes on it, the gummint would receive less
taxes (lower wage earners pay less or no taxes.

I am against illegals who use socials services who do not contribute to the
system. My relos visiting me do not use any social services.

I am against illegals who get medical aid and default, leaving taxpayers or
other patients to pay the tab. I pay the medical bills of my family.

I am against illegals who work in an underground economy and take jobs away
from legals. My family members sometimes help with the dishes and cook
meals (often because they want something prepared like back home), and I
would not hire someone to clear the table on the few occasions we eat as a
family.

Everything I have written against with illegals I do not practice. But
other than being completely different, it is exactly the same. Riight?

> But off course that still leave the corruption you have admitted to being
> involved in while in the Philippines.

Ah, the "corruption"! Yes, on most occasions I have given a $5 tip to speed
my baggage through at NAIA. We have sevberal times paid a "fixer" to assist
with getting visas for family traveling to Thailand, Canada and the US.

I am undoubtedly at the core of all that is wrong in the Philippines. Of
course, the "bribes" we paid were not to achieve anything illegal but to
speed things up in a culture where that is accepted, but that's not relevant
here, is it? You so desperately want to mislabel me as "immoral" that you
don't really care about reality or truth. You just want to feel a little
less unclean about your own actions.

I have never betrayed my wife with another woman. Does that count?

> Families Randy, you do tend to drag you relatives though this group as if

Heh, heh. Sure, I said she was a GRO. Did I give her name? I told "where
she works" -- you mean, I mentioned a province and town with over a quarter
of a million people. If you can give me her name, then I will admit that I
violated a standard of decency. Fair enough? The fact is, you cannot
identify her, and no one here can, either. From discussions here, hardly
anyone has even visited her province, much less would be able to identify
her. I mentioned it to make a point, which you have undoubtedly forgotten.

It is like saying you have a niece in Cardiff who is a fish wife. Would
that betray her, and give adequate information for people to identify her?
I don't think so...

And there is a big difference between being immoral and being bastos. I
have never denied being the later.

> Lardy your pathetic attempts at putting a spin on morality is laughable or
> perhaps its all relative.

Morality is placing values on behavior. You conflate a number of non-moral
issues then make pronouncements about moral hypocrisy. Try to understand
the terms you employ before using them. Deal?

I ignore typos. Simple ignorance or misused words catch my eye and amuse me
when people are ranting about how superior they are...

> the grammar and spelling and post them. With your non existent family life
> you have the time to do it.

Heh, heh. In the last two weeks, I've spent a week in Las Vegas with the
family, visited an aquarium with my son, spent the day with my wife son at
his school introductory picnic, took him on a father-son outing culminating
with dinner at his favorite restaurant, baby-sat while my wife went to
school, worked with my older son who now wants to take over the family
business, spent hours on the phone with my daughter going over her new job
and her questions about her impending marriage and worked with my wife in
the house and garden. It's amazing what you can do when you only work a
couple of hours a day.

That's OK. You're really, really boring, too. That creates a kind of
symmetry ...

Sure it is. You come here with ZERO Flip ties. You're not even interested in

Moonpie is married to a Filipina, and he worked in the RP for several years
at least. When he is not on his "I hate SCF regulars" kick he actually has
posted some good stuff about being white the the Philippines and
observations about life there. I don't agree with some of his
characterizations, but that's OK. What's kinda funny is that I will agree
with him sometimes, and he instantly goes on the attack. Seems the boy is a
good hater, and cannot accept agreement from a Lard Ass.

His interest in the RP is 1000 times better than Ill Pintador's.

This House Painter LOVES The Philippines more than most of you guys.
The paint season is coming to an end. Gataa to lay off the guys and get
ready for another 6 months in The PI. Had lots of rain, so many
Homeowners have to get their old Colonials and Victorians painted next
spring. If you think their ain'ttt no money in Paintinn' (in
Massachusetts) Just pick up the yellow Pages and ask for a quote for an
old New England Colonial in The Burbs. Ha Ha.
Then Call a "Lowly carpenter" and ask him to construct a deck in your
backyard.

Just thinking of getting back in The PI for another 6 months makes me
extatic. Admit it, Don't some of you have justa wee bit of ENVY? Come
onnnnn? 6 MONTHS? Who the hell can afford to do this? This is why I
kina like Chinks, they are not necessarily "Rich" but they DO have
discipline with being CHEAP. Its SO TRUE that Real Pinoys are Extremely
Generous with their money, Its sometimes to the point of pissing away
thousands of dollars in a matter of weeks, then not having 5 Pesos for a
Jeepny ride to the Airport. Unfortunately, much of this generosity is a
result of "Emotional Extortion" from Family members. "You're Rich, Gimie
yo money or I will HATE you forever".
In The PI, Having a wife and 2 mistresses is more acceptable (Even
admirable) that being "CourEEput" (sp). Kano, "Never Cheating on The
Wife" is Admirable but What if SHE repeatedly Cheats on YOU? Would you
forgive her, again and Again? Remember Kano, Divorce to real Pinoys is
MUCH more "immoral" than Cheating ya know.

Riding a motor bike in The Provence is Great. I would live in The
Philippines Year round if I could find a way to do it. Thailand? Naww,
The food, economy, infrastructure and standards are better but Pinoys
are more fun.
The unpredictability of The PI is fun too.
"Terrorism" is way over stated in The PI.

As far as me being nasty to Chin or others, sure i'll back off but
that's a 2 way street. After all, this is a "Filipino" topic NG Right?
Lets talk about "The Philippines" then, Game?

When you stay in the RP, where do you stay? Do you stay at hotels or
friends' homes? How about in the provincias? I haven't been to the Pinas
in 15 years and when I visit, I wanna go all over the country, not just
Metro Manila. Just inquiring to know how you research your boarding
arrangements...

Personal Finance should be a required course in high school. Filipinos
need to learn not to spend all their money on the next fiesta.

Well, traveling in The PI all depends on who you are, length of stay
and standards you can accept. IMHO many Gringo "Tourists" get fucked
because they must have the "American Standard" hotel rooms. To last a
Long time, you have to live as much like an average Filipino as you can
(i can't do it most of the time). Eat local, travel like Pinoys and
obviously skip The Marriot in Cebu.
If you have $4,000 for a month then go nuts.
If your visiting Loved ones, well, do the right thing, help the out but
save some to travel.
I AVOID Manila like a Cats to Dogs. Stay at cheap hotels. I know
lots of Foreigners from Australia, England and State Side that live in
Cebu, CDO and Camiguen. Some rent cheap rooms to foreigners and OFW they
can trust .
I find OFW to be much more trustworthy IMHO. PI Pinoys that are not
exposed to Gringos are sometimes freaked out by a Honkies "Frankness".
Actually OFW often act just as "Nutty" as their Gringos in their new
Country. I can't give you advice but this is what I would tell a "Long
term Backpacker".

1. Buy a "Lonely Planet" travel book "Philippines" (Barns & Nobel has
it).
2. Pack as little as possible, Just 1 Backpack.
3. Bring twice as Much money than you "think" necessarily.
4. Do NOT EVER talk to Cops for any reason.
5. Don't talk to a single Gal that has a Dad, Brother or Uncle in The
NBI, PNP, Military or in The Mayors office.
6. If you want to stay in one City "Long term" and think Local cops will
extort you, make a plan. Make friends with a family member of the Mayer
(the OLDER the better). Play your cards right and the Police Captains
will be offering you lunch or dinner (always politely decline).

Boracay Bill? No , I would have liked to have met the guy. For me,

I don't want to sound like a "cop basher" but when you combine a
Badge, a gun, a salary of $30 a month with 8 kids and 1 or 2 mistresses
to feed, a Pinoy Cop often sees a Gringo as his next meal. Flip OFW can
"Blend in." Gringos "blend in" like a Polar Bear in Mexico City.

A non English voice with a BIG SMILE works well because he will not
blame you and he will not loose face. He can even make fun of you and
will give up on you. I have done a fake Slavic- German type (its
harsh, gibberish & fake) language. i i i ZZONT Zpeek Englizzz Vevvy
