Is Samboy playing now? His career has been injury-laden
and the times he was playing he wasnt all that effective anymore.
If he's in the list I want Allan Caidic and Ricky Brown to be in

the accent on the first syllable. Problem was "Speak" Salita, the game
barker of old, would mispronounce his name. So he would go "Foul PUTOT!",

How about Luke Dacula of Mariwasa? The crowd would always hound him
shouting "Aawoo!" whenever he is announced or introduced. Got sick of it,
so he legally changed his surname.
His legal name now is ... wait for it ... Luke Dator!

the fifties and sixties. I heard he was a good defensive player. He was the
coach of the Mapua Cardinals during my school days.

I think most of the players mentioned here are not in fact a PBA
players. They belong to a different basketball association. I
think it is MICAA. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF I GET IT RIGHT. WHAT

Carlos Badion was a dominating player in the late 50's and 60's. He played
with Mapua during his NCAA years before playing "professional" with several
MICA teams, I belive one of them was with YCO. He was muscularly built and
yes, a good defensive player and a dominating forward as well. His style of
play was like Charles Barkley with the strength of Dennis Rodman. "Mahusay
si Badion sa baldahan. Babag and katawan."

I think the list doesn't really reflect the Philippines'
greatest basketball players since Samboy was included in
the top 10. He might be in top 20 but not in top 10.
Samboy is an execellent and exciting player but greatness
is still far from being his since his basketball career
is injury-plagued... you know whatta mean.

Seeing as how Jaworski made the list, I'd like to include an
article I read on soc.culture.filipino several years ago. I've saved the
article. Every time I meet an Anejo/Ginebra fan, I show them this
posting.
He should be included in that list but he is not THE greatest. I
remember when the Washington Bullets played the Philippine team
in the early 70's. The Bullets were the NBA champs then, and Jaworski
and Wes Unseld almost went to blows because Jawo was trying to undercut
(pitik) Unseld. It was wise for the Bullets to restrain Unseld, imagine
an all-out brawl that will include the spectators, whew... gulpe sigurado.
Anyway, when the Bullets were interviewed in WAshington DC, 2 players,
Wes Unseld, and Elvin Hayes said that Jaworski is not a basketball
player but a thug in uniform. They also said that he did not have sound
basketball skills. True or false?

Jawo just provides instant leadership in the court. He is intimidating to
the opposing team. It is so hard to compare him to an NBA guard. The
closest I can think of is Barkley(power forward) who is a court leader
and a physical player.
Payton, Drexler, and KJ are more finesse players.

I haven't seen anybody mention Lou Salvador Sr. He was a great basketball
player of his time. If I remember right, he was the one and only Filipino
player to ever score 100 points in a basketball game. I'm pretty sure
I've read this from a local paper some few years ago. Also, ditto on
Danny Florencio. He definitely is one of the best. I think Adriano Papa
is also worth mentioning. I also can't help but note the fact that we
used to regularly win the Asian Games Basketball tourney. What happened?
Do we have inferior players now?, or the quality of other country's player
improved so much......

FYI, a certain Dumlao scored 100 pts in a game before. I believe he is the
