Is there something in the culture of why a filipina does not shave her legs?

Madonna doesn't shave hers. Does that make her a filipina or is there
something in American culture that encourages hairy women?

I don't think it's cultural.. most just don't have enough horrifically
visible hair to shave. Just like most filipino men have no chest or
facial hair. My daughter decided to shave her legs because everybody
else was doing it even she didn't need to. Perhaps you can construe
shaving legs as cultural in the US.

I am convinced shaving body hair for men is an 'Merikun thang. My
observations at Bondi Beach during a hot sunny day:

- topless, shaved armpits: local Ozzie babe (nice tits!)
- topless, hairy armpits: Tourist Euro babe (nicer tits!)
- not topless, shaved armpits: Tourist 'Merkun babe (bummer!)
- not topless, unshaved armpits - Pinay babe (bigger bummer!)
- flat chested, bottomless, ugly, hairy armpits/chest/back - Drunk Gay Ozzie
bloke (Eeeeewwww!)

Most PI-born girls in the US start to shave their legs in HS because
everyone does. Its not necessarily image, but more to adapt
to the environment. Afterwards, they realize Filipinas do not have hairy
legs and should not be shaved for consequences of building a jungle in a
desert plain.

Lets change the question: Is the shaving of legs culturally US?

This is why I keep coming to SCF year after year. . . for breakthroughs,
like this one, in cultural understanding.

Thanks to Kevin, we all now know that Filipinas do not share their legs. I'm
so glad that Kevin suspects a cultural reason and wants to get to the root
of it.

My own generalization:

Any one named Kevin is an obsessive puti, prone to bathroom masturbation,
where he does his best thinking.

What do you suppose the cultural reasons for this are?

Well, if my wife lets her hair grow its furrier than mine. But that's
because she's been shaving since High School.

Also, the typical Filipino aren't furry to begin with. I am quite fuzzy

So, if Kevin's profound and exhaustive study has produced this bit of
cultural insight (Filipinas don't shave their legs), then what about the
practice of cutting off all the hair of babies when they reach age one or
so?

Is is as widespread as the afore mentioned non-practice?

I'm told that it produces richer hair when it grows back. Do you believe
this?

Do you suppose this practice is really an expression of the repressed desire
to engage in leg shaving?

True, but since all hairs were cut at the same time, the growth would
commence approximately around the same time too, thus giving the rough
and bristled feel. That would only be so till you let it grow for a
while and it will take the original condition of the hair.

It is generally considered that Filipinas should shave their legs. Almost
all remove the hair under their armpits. But fine Caucasian hair on the
legs are not shaved, since these give an impression of an exotic texture.

Finally, an important issue which speaks to me!

When our son was 1 year old, my wife cut all his hair off, explaining that
it would grow in thicker. I was told this was a custom (like drinking
coconut milk while pregnant to give your child lighter skin) and where
possible I try to abide by my wife's customs. When I saw the length of
stubble on his head, I thought, "I'll bet she really meant to shave him, but
forgot about my electric razor." So I pulled out the razor and shaved a
strip, about where his part would be, before she stopped me saying that it
was only supposed to be cut, not shaved.

For the next 6 months my boboy had a strip of very short hair along the side
of his head, and I started to fear that I had somehow damaged his delicate
follicles, scarring him for life. I was quite relieved when it all evened
out...

I try to leave the implementation of customs to my wife these days.

Some Pinays shave their legs and some don't. There is no general trend
really. A Pinay friend shaves her chest, too. But then she used to be a man
so she's the exception rather than the rule.

> then what about the practice of cutting off all the hair of babies when

-----------------
Possible reasons:

1. Belief in the myth that shaving off head will give fuller hair later.

2. To prevent head lice.

3. Less maintenance. No need to shampoo, blowdry, comb or brush baby's hair.

we plucked them with tweezers. And, what is the big deal with body hair

According to my wife, they don't cut the babies hair for the
first year and then at the first birthday, cut it short - boys
and girls. She doesn't know WHY, it's just a tradition -
probably the thing about it growing back fuller.
However, my new bro-in-law looks a lot better now with his 1
year growth gone by the wayside..... now if the new niece (same
age) would START growing some, she might look more like a little
girl instead of my father-in-law, whose head is growing out the

The location of the bald spot is dependent on the length of the man's
tongue. Those balding near the forehead have short tongues and those balding
on the top of their head have longer tongues.

That seems to vary between individuals. My wife has no hair on her legs,
while our daughter does (pisses off our daughter). About the only
difference between them genetically is 1/16 Chinese from my daughter's
father with perhaps a touch less Spanish in him.

My SILs also vary in terms of hair.

I've often wondered (without bothering to research it) whether women shaving
their legs started with the common use of nylons. Darker hair can either
ruin the effect or create interesting patterns under nylons (depending on
your perspective).

Good observation BK. I didn't start shaving or taffy-ing
(fruit base instead of waxing) until I came here in the US
Back then in my days, Pinays at home don't shave their legs,
because hardly anyone wear nylons. If you're wearing nylons
for 8long hrs. or whole day with full grown hair, at
the end of the day when you pull the nylons off, the hair
look stiff (ala Pareng prickly Joshua of Mohave desert)
The hair will stay that way for the next day or two. Some
women like my cousin goes back to its normal bend after
shower or by applying lotion. Unfortunately, I'm cursed
with the stubborn ones. Also, some cotton/poly mix
nylons (used by silk allergy sufferres) can break or
pull tender hair. So shaving, waxing or taffying
is really a matter of taste and/or convenience esp.
when you wear nylons.

Blaah! Things we do for vanity. Okay all women unite!
Take your Man to see Mel Gibson at "What to Girls Want."
This time, You All Women don't shave your Legs (or armpits,

We, Filipino women do not shave our legs because we have no hairy legs and arms...our leg is as smooth as a baby's bottom. If a filipina has hairy legs it will be unnoticeable and besides , the more you shave your hairy legs, the more it will become a jungle.
