if im not mistaken he was one of the first presidents of the Republic of the
Philippines. a relative of mine was one of his bodyguards and died with
Magsaysay in a plane crash.

I thought that John Rico mentioned that Jose Rizal was his hero in the end
of the book. yeah and why arent there any Filipinos in that film (is that
right?). and how about all of yall voting for ME and boycotting PARAMOUNT
until they cast ME as the first Filipino on a Star Trek show or
movie......thats bullshit they got Mr. Sulu Archipelago in there and there
aint no Hapon out there with "Sulu" as a last name....get a real Pinoy in
that show....get ME..I DO have acting experience!

AZMIK wants to be the first Pinoy on Star Trek!

He was one of our more distinguished presidents. Unlike
most politicians in our nation, he was not part of an
"elite" family, but was the son of poor farmers who worked
hard and rose to the highest office in the land. He didn't
forget where he came from after becoming president. In fact,
he popularized the "Barong Tagalog", formerly something only
farmers and people in the provinces wore. Now it's the official
Philippine formal attire for men. (way better than a crummy suit
and a choking tie if you ask me)

yup. That's why I'm just gonna read the book and ignore
the movie. Besides, books almost always are better than
the movies that are based on them.

That's why they changed his name to "Kato" or something when they
exported the show to Japan.

Good luck with that. I for one would like to see a Pinoy
fire photon torpedoes, kick Jem Hadar butt, seduce Counselor
Troi, eat Gagh, have a wild time on the holodeck, and most
of all. . .drink San Miguel Synthehol in Ten Forward.

or at least get Lou Diamond Philips in there, that actor isnt "shy" at all
about telling people that he is Filipino (even though not full, but lets
give him s'more credit). i think he would play a great cast member.

did you folks know that Spock's musical instrument is made of Philippine
Luan?!! Its some type of wood, I read it in the Star Trek blueprint manual.

If they get a Vietnamese person on Star Trek before they get a Pinoy on
there that would be sad. They already gots a Koreano in there (in name, but
I think that guy is Inchek)....where is the Pinoy contribution?

Peace,
AZMIK

I think he was on a plane named "Mt. Pinatubo" that crashed in Mt.
Manananggal, Cebu. He was then a guest speaker in University of Visayas,
Cebu City (UV) graduation ceremony. Some believes that the pilot
miscalculated the elevation of Mt. Manananggal. A wild speculation
thinks that the plane was overloded with mangoes. A lone survivor Nestor
Mata,a news reporter survived in the plane crashed because he was seated
at the tail end. One of the victim, an Army Signal Corps photographer
M/Sgt. Regino Manuel(my dad's comrade-in-arms). The presidential plane
"Mt. Pinatubo" named after a guerilla mountain hide-out of then Zambales
guerilla leader Ramon Magsaysay.

Mambo Magsaysay jingle:

" Ang democracy will die kapag wala si Magsaysay".

He was also the president who protected the carabaos (water buffalo)
which after its useful life of plowing the field, from the farmers
who slaughter and eat them.

Also check out his Decalogue. You can live with it.

Pasensiya po, nagkamali ako sa pangalan ng bundok. Baka naman na-aswang
iyong piloto kaya bumagsak ang Pinatubo.(-:)

Crash site is Mt. Manunggal in Cebu where a monument still stands.

Try the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act). Find out the relationship between
the CIA's Lansdale and Magsaysay, and how Magsaysay became instantly popular.
Learn about the war against the Huks, and the Philippines' land reform policy.
Maybe, you will find out clues about the death of Magsaysay.
