according to puno, brunei beauties are successful
movie stars from the philippines who choose to
go to brunei to entertain the sultan of brunei or
other rich guys on that island...for huge amount of
money. (and that may include sexual favors).
before ruffa can get out of the country to represent
the philippines in the miss world pageant, her name should
be cleared by senate--who i heard is doing an investigation
over this issue.

I was still in the Philippines when this issue started.
First, Ruffa is the reigning Bb. Pilipinas-World.
Sen. Ernesto Maceda implicated, 5 Filipinas to be what they
call "Brunei-yuki"'s to differentiate them from the "Japa-yuki"'s.
My mistake, implicated is not the right word for it.
He actually named them, including Ruffa Gutierrez, in one of
his privilege speeches as a senator.

Allegedly, each one makes at least 1 million pesos (roughly US $35,000).
for each trip to Brunei.

One day, as I was watching "Eye to Eye" by Inday Badiday
(bakya as I am), I saw Eddie Gutierrez, the father of Ruffa Gutierrez,
being interviewed by Inday. On screen, (more precisely in Filipino),
hinamon ni Eddie ng suntukan si Ernie sa LVN studios kung saan
dati silang magkasama, si Eddie bilang artista, at si Ernie bilang bugaw.
The following day, Inday covered the scheduled brawl, but as expected,
Ernie didn't show up.

I just received a fresh copy of the Philippine Inquirer from MNL and there was
a front-page article about the scandal. According to the article, the Brunei
consul is keeping mum on the issue - apparently due to the royal embarrassment
it would bring. Said the in-law of the Sultan was the main person hiring the
"beauties".
SOme of the actresses and celebs accused in the scandal were Vivian Velez,
Tetchie Agbayani, Cristina Gonzales, her sister, Ruffa's cousin and a few
other stars with soda pop or hard liquor names.
IMO, it's really hard to prove that Ruffa is part of the scandal other than the
fact that Maceda supplied the Senate with the plane manifest showing the Ruffa
indeed went to Brunei. The funny thing is that she went with her Mom and cousin
, and any risky business would be totally out-of-line in her Mom's presence.
The manifest is not proof enough to explain what Ruffa did.
I may sound like I'm defending Ruffa, but I really hate the guts of Maceda.
What is his purpose for bringing such a scandal to the Senate when there are
even more pressing national issues to resolve? A theory why he brought it up
is because the gov't can recover unpaid taxes from the "earnings" of the
accused. Maceda himself is a very controversial figure. Years ago he was
suspected as the man who hired a US mercenary to assassinate a leading
political figure in MNL. The plot was aborted when the mercenary himself backed
out of the deal and sort of pin-pointed Maceda as the guy who hired him.

I think yiu're talking about Mrs. Aquino's foreign Secretary, Raul
Manglapus. He allegedly hired a mercenray to assasinate gringo Honassan.
Manglapus when confronted with evidence admitted meeting the guy, but denied
that he wanted him to assasinate Honassan.

The word "bugaw" used to characterize Maceda is correctly used if the
rumors during the mid-70s were to be considered. According to this
persistent rumor, Maceda "fed" Ferdie Marcos with actresses (Rosemary
Sonora, Dovie Beams, etc.), but to play it safe, he also provided
Imelda with a steady "diet" of actors/studs (such as Eddie Gutierrez
himself, Vic Vargas, etc.). Let me repeat, this was a very much
talked about and repeated rumors all over the Philippines.

I could be missing something here but what don't you believe - Ruffa or
Maceda's story?

Hhhm, you could be right here (ie. Manglapus) because the names sort of sound
similar. But I felt it was Maceda because he was involved in more kalokohan (as
heard from the rumour mill years ago) than Manglapus. Anyway, you were right
about Honasan as being the target (well, as I can recall now).
