RESISTANCE PATRIOTS MAI-MAI
PRESS COMMUNIQÉ
Subject: Denial concerning the situation in the Kivu province
Ladies and gentlemen,
Because of the campaign which aims to dishonour and destabi-
lise the Resisting Patriots Mai-Mai and their leadership, we
wish to inform the Congolese people and also the international
community that the accusations of kidnapping, of violence and
of other malpractices against the civilian population in the
territories under the administration of the Mai-Mai are part
of this campaign of misinformation.
Likewise, the disturbances which have occurred during the last
week at the border between Zambia and the DR Congo by no means
are the work of the Resisting Patroits Mai-Mai, who are not in
conflict with the Zambian government, nor with the Congolese
government.
This whole plot aims to deprive the forces of the Resistance
of that popular support which they have always enjoyed on the
part of the local populations, who understand the struggle of
the Mai-Mai.
Also, we are taking very seriously those signs which indicate
an intention by the RCD-Goma [a quisling-type puppet of the
Rwandan leadership which, at the command of US imperialism
above all, has been invading the DR Congo and since some
months back has been saying that all of its troops have now
left, but this is probably a lie - RM] to torpedo the agree-
ment, signs comprising the launching anew a campaign against
peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the deploy-
ment of troops coming from Rwanda all over the Kivu province.
These movements also have been condemned by the Vice General
Secretary of the United Nations during his visit to Kinshasa.
Finally, we condemn the arrests of civilians accused of sup-
porting the Mai-Mai. One case in point is that of Ms Anne Ka-
bongelo, leader of an organization for Women's Rights; and
others also have been detained in the prisons of the RCD-Goma.
The Resisting Patriots Mai-Mai repeat their commitment to work
for the restoration of peace within the framework of the Comi-
té de Suivi.

Objet : Démenti sur la situation dans le Kivu
Mesdames, Messieurs,
Suite à la campagne ayant pour but de déshonorer et de désta-
biliser les Patriotes Résistants MAI-MAI et leurs Responsab-
les, nous tenons à informer le peuple Congolais ainsi que la
communauté internationale que les accusations d’enlèvement, de
violence et d’autres maltraitances à l’égard de la population
civile dans les territoires sous administration des MAI - MAI
font partie de cette campagne de désinformation.
De même, les troubles survenus la semaine passée à la fron-
tière de la Zambie et de la R.D. CONGO ne sont nullement
l’oeuvre des Patriotes Résistants MAI-MAI qui ne sont en con-
flit ni avec le gouvernement Zambien, ni avec le gouvernement
Congolais.
Toute cette machination vise à priver les forces de Résistance
du soutien populaire dont elles ont toujours jouie de la part
des populations locales qui comprennent le combat des MAI -
MAI.
De même, nous prenons très au sérieux les signes annonciateurs
de la volonté du RCD Goma de torpiller les accords, en relan-
çant une campagne contre la paix en République Démocratique du
Congo et le déploiement des troupes venues du Rwanda à travers
tout le Kivu. Ces mouvements ont d’ailleurs été dénoncé par le
Secrétaire Général Adjoint des Nations Unies lors de son pas-
sage à kinshasa.
Enfin, nous dénonçons l’arrestation des civils accusés de sou-
tenir les MAI - MAI. A titre illustratif, Madame Anne KABONGE-
LO, responsable d’une association des Droits de femmes, ainsi
que d’autres personnes sont retenues dans les cachots du RCD
Goma.
Les Patriotes Résistants MAI - MAI réitèrent leur attachement
à oeuvrer pour le retour de la paix dans le cadre du Comité de
Suivi.
