The Rules of Esperanto

I'm curious about the history of esperanto. For some reason I think
that it was created just after world war I. Is this correct??
Also, I don't know much esperanto, but I do speak some spanish, and I
know a little german, and with these skills I can make out a lot of what
is written in this newsgroup. Isn't it true that esperanto is based on
some 18 rules? If they are short and someone has them on hand, I think
that as well as myself, other non-esperanto speakers who read from this
group would be interested in them. Can anyone post??

The rules of esperanto are helpful, but it is a little hard to
puzzel out all the consequences of those rules while you are
trying to read a letter. Therefor, if you are interested, I would
recommend that you get a book that will teach you the language.
I learned from a book called "Teach Yourself Esperanto". A better
book (IMHO) is "Step by Step in Esperanto". However, I was able to
find the Teach Yourself book in a regular bookstore. And that
was years before I figured out how to contact the local association
of esperantists.

laboro por cerebumi chiajn konsekvencojn de la reguloj dum vi provas
legi leteron. Tial, se vi interesas, mi sugestus ke vi trovas
