rather cynically this week that many of these releases are aimed at the

This was Hamish and Dick's ground-breaking album of 1990, when this unique
"fusion of folk and jazz" burst forth on the Scottish music scene. At the
time both Hamish and Dick were independently experimenting with other

represent the then 'Hamish Moore Band', 'Fuaim', 'Dick Lee's Chamber Jazz'
and of course Hamish and Dick as a duo. The album was hailed as a
classic by the viewers and was the forerunner to their equally unique

Spæelimenninir Í Hoydølum means 'the fiddlers, or players from Hoydalar -
so called because the group was founded in the secondary school in Hoydalar
just north of Tórshavn, in 1974. The group are Kristian Blak (Denmark),
Hans Ole Larsen (Denmark), Magnus Pauli Poulsen (Faroe Islands), Jógvan
Dahl (Faroe Islands), Christina Lindén (Sweden), Janne Danielsson (Sweden)
and Alistair Cochrane (Scotland). This CD illustrates some of the separate
styles and traditions of the band members; it also features a few of the
more raucous dance-hall numbers that they play. The latter is not meant to
please folk-music purists. If the Danish tunes have a Swedish lilt to them
and Bellman songs come out as Scottish jigs, so much the better.
