I wonder what means for an englishspeaker the phrase "spanish eyes". The
last time that I see it is the album All that you can't leave behind" by U2.
Too, I see it in an album of The Pogues.
I do not know if is casuality that two groups are irish :-).
In fact, Irishman are like brothers for Spaniards, specially for spaniards
of the north, like me.
Thanks for your kindly help in order to solve my doubt.
¡adios!

I don't think it really means anything special.
I would take it as meaning dark 'come to bed' eyes, but that may be just me.
I love your last sentence.

May be something to do with various ships from the Armada being wrecked off
the west of Ireland, and survivors interbreeding with the locals, giving
rise to people in Galway & Clare having dark skin and hair & brown eyes.
Perhaps?

Wasn't there a song called "Spanish Eyes" in the fifties or so sung by
one of those crooner fellows ? I can't think who sang it, and it's
kind of tricky to hum or lala on usenet.

That was "Spanish Flies", and it was kind of bawdy.

Ever hear of Armada blood?
All over the Wesshht
Sorry William, I do not know about When *Irish Eyes* Are Smiling"? But sure
is good, as all the irish. Good by nature.
About Armada (La Armada Invencible) I know all about myths of spaniards who
lived in Eire.
In fact, this spaniards all from north Spain, where all people are white
(dark skin is not in this area, only in south and mediterranean coast) and
there is a predominatily blue eyes. Then, I do not know why West Eire have
dark skin and brown eyes. But I know sure is not for spanish blood.
But, it is true that the dark eyes in spanish womans are beautiful. In Spain
the myth of beauty in a women is the woman of the south of Spain, that have
dark eyes and dark hair, but white skin. This is a really beautiful
contrast.
I invited all you in visit the Atlantic coast of Spain (the north have a
sea, called Cantabrian Sea, or Biscay Bay for anglosaxons), sure you will be
like at home.

(Words & music by B. Kaemfert - C. Singleton - E. Snyder)
Blue Spanish eyes teardrops are falling from your Spanish eyes
Please please don't cry, this is just adios and not good-bye
Soon I'll return, bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si Si" say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me
Soon I'll return, bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si Si" say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me
Say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me

I think it must have gone something like this:
Beautiful Senorita, I love you,
But you lie there in bed like a lump.
You chew gum and read while we hump.
Beautiful Senorita, I love you,
A scratching, wild woman's my dream.
How can I excite you to scream?
Beautiful Senorita, I love you,
I'll spike your Margarita with Spanish Flies
And shudder with joy at your cries.
Remarkable alliterations and rythm. Lyrics of unforgettable beauty.
(Hot Press)
Where can I get some of those spanish flies ? And can you smoke or
inject them ?
But see, J. Rossa, it works!!!!!
But I dont know if Trish wants to be known as "polite",
or more????????
Just kidding!
