FACING THE TRUTH 18
by SA
The WHO report which placed Myanmar as the second from the bottom is so
apparently motivated by politics. Otherwise there is no intelligent reason to
place it in such a low position.
NLD has always been against health NGOs working in Myanmar; may be they are
afraid that better health care from any sector might give the government "a
good name" and a higher rating by WHO. Why do they not care for the health of
the people? They do of course make endless statements and speeches about how
the people suffer, and I think with some joy because this is a good chance to
bad-mouth the government. If things drastically change with foreign aid
coming in to better the people's health care systems, how angry they would
be. If they can talk about inadequate health care for the people, I wonder
why they do not publicly ask for health care aid. They want to put such good
help on hold until they get the power, until they are the government. Unless
they do the people are to be denied better health care from foreign aid.
Some of the people working for the international organizations and the
western diplomats know very well that if there is a choice between pleasing
NLD or doing something good for the people, they had better be careful about
their choice. It is no secret that DASSK through her media power holds the
politicians, and that they in turn control the organizations. With this
selfish interplay going on in a global scale, no wonder that few of them
would spare a thought about what must be done for the people at the risk of
their careers. They are not allowed to do anything for the people unless NLD
comes into power, it is as simple as that.
Because of this tight and cruel control, even foreigners who are sincere and
dedicated to their professions would consider how their reports would be
taken: if they are to be judged as objective reports or if they are to be
considered not enough negative towards the regime. To be positive is
certainly more dangerous and only some have been so courageous. For which the
media attacks them with a vicious anger.
The world may have progressed in so many ways: but the once sincere and
straight role of the free-press is worth is worth little now. Concern about
circulation rates based on readers' emotions and their love for
sensationalism have replaced the responsibility of honest news coverage. It
is a great pity to see some of the most prestigious international papers
reduced to the level of mudslinging cheap papers.
