Britain's response to Sinn Fein on the Downing Street Declaration
removes the road block to clarification, Albert Reynolds says. The
Irish Prime Minister said the response should enable the peace process
to move forward. Sources said Mr Reynolds warmly welcomed the British
Government's replies which were "comprehensive and positive". They
dealt with all the issues raised "in a serious manner", Mr Reynolds
added.

Sinn Fein has said it may take "some time" to respond to the
Government's reply to its questions on the Downing Street Declaration.

Police are to look again at the unsolved cases of four girls who
disappeared in the 1960's and 1970's. It follows the conviction of
former van driver Robert Black for murdering three schoolgirls. Black
was also convicted of abducting Teresa Thornhill: the judge recommended
that he remain in prison until he is at least 82.

The funeral service is to take place today of the late leader of the
Labour party, John Smith.
