VNS UK SPORTS REPORT: [Mike Lynch, VNS Sports Desk]
===================== [Fareham, England ]

Racing:-
=======

MPs voted last week to allow Horse racing and betting to take place on Sundays
in the UK. There is already speculation that the Grand National and the Derby
will be held on a Sunday next year.

Football:-
========
FA Cup final;

allegations over dodgy financial dealings.

============

1st Michael Schumacher.
2nd Martin Brundle.
3rd Gerhard Berger.

Fastest lap Martin Brundle.

Austrian Karl Wendlinger was seriously hurt (he is currently in a 'controlled'
coma in a Nice hospital) in a crash during Thursday's practice, which has
prompted the FIA to rush forward more changes to the cars to include;

15% reduction in downforce before the Spanish Grand prix in 2 weeks time.
The banning of air boxes (the air-intake above the drivers head)
The introduction of using 'pump' fuel.
Stronger suspension struts (probably banning the use of carbon fibre, which
shatters).
50% reduction in downforce (for next season).
lengthened cockpits
More driver head protection.

The FIA president Max Mosley announced that Senna was killed by his front tyre
hitting him on the head during the crash. No news yet of what caused the crash.

Cricket:-
========

Imran Khan has resigned as a member of the committee of the International
Cricket council (the body set up to control the playing aspects of the game).

Imran said that it would be inappropriate for him to continue on the board
after his recent admissions of ball tampering.

Greame Gooch has been recalled to the English squad for the one day
internations against Newzealand

I'm pleased to announce that Imran Khan picked up his dodgy bowling tactics
at my old school (RGS Worcester) when he was a pupil there. Legend has it
that he was taught loads of dirty tricks by the then cricket coach at the
school, who was, incidentally, a New-Zealander. His name escapes me.

No one knew exactly what tricks were taught, as the private "tutorials" were
one-on-one.

All a bit unfair really. The guy had made his test debut for Pakistan
before attending RGS! He succeeded in bowling out my school (King
Edward's, B'ham) for a pitiful 20-odd runs...
