Hello,
I didn't find this name in my book about breton names,
so I searched it in an online Minitel server :
This name is mainly beared in Brittany (Finistere and Morbihan)
but it probably comes from old french, not breton.
Their hypothesis is that it comes from the old word "Cinquain" which
was a liquid measure (a fifth of a barrel).
About 800 persons are still called SINQUIN in France (mainly
in Brittany) - according to their estimation.
You should pronounce it like the french numbers : cinq(5), un(1)
(some of my ancestors, around 1750, had this name)
Do you know from which breton town or village, did your family emigrate?
Ca me surprendrait

I fail to see any breton root in SINQUIN. How did you came to the idea
that it could be breton ?
Would you know about the origin of the name ?
Maybe an other written form ? Saint Kin ? Saint Cast ? ...

Just a guess. Could this be a form of Jenkins? Is "si" pronounced "sh" in
Breton as in Welsh???
