It doesn't seem so much to me. It comes every week (plus special
issues) by airmail from Brasil to (in my case) Germany. Here, it costs
two bucks to send a letter to Brasil.
Magazines like Time tend not to be so expensive outside the US because
they are printed locally.
I still think it is too expensive for a magazine such as Veja. Mail rates
for printed matters are in general less expensive. One should also remember that in
paying for a one-year subscription you should get a different (and reduced) price
than the one you are paying at the news-stand. I really don't know how much a single
issue costs in Brazil rigth now, so those 280 bucks may just reflect the high prices of
magazines (and other general stuff) there. In this case, I would probably not buy Veja
even if I were living there :).

This not always true. And the comparison should be made with the US
editions of Time, etc, which cost *half* as much for a similar
subscription (and some much less than half).

Of course it is! Let alone the lousy resolution, low-quality binding
and so forth.

Yeah, sure. But we play Economics/Marketing in a odd way in Brasil,
you know..

Nah. What about a less flattering hypothesis like the combined forces
of poor management, a perverse control on the domestic market (Abril)
and the good old provincial arrogance. I only hope they (and their
pals) learn the hard way.
