I came across this sevdalinke a couple of months ago -Kad ja podjoh na
Bembasa - does anyone actually have the words to this song? If yes,
can they please send me an email of it, as well as a loose translation
of it in english. Thank you very much.
Natalie
Natalie,
I am sending you via e-mail the lyrics of kad ja podjoh na bembasu to the
best of my recollection (bosnian is not my first language) as well as a
loose translation.
On a related note, I am trying to find the lyrics to the sevdalinka "u
lijepom starom gradu visegradu". I remember the first part of the song but
have forgotten the rest. Anybody out there know the words?
Thanks in advance,
Eric
Sanel
thanks!
Here are the lyrics and a rough translation. Sanel or some other native
Bosnian speaker might be able to provide a better translation.
Regards,
Eric
KAD JA PODJOH NA BENBASU
Kad ja podjoh ne benbasu
na benbasu na vodu
Ja povedoh bijelo jagnje
Bijelo jagnje sa sobom
[when I went to Benbasa for water, I took a white lamb with me]
Sve od derta
i sevdaha
od tuge i zalosti
Svud sam isao
svud sam gledao
ne bil dragu vidjeo
[all for *a word I don't know* and all for love
all for sadness...
I went everywhere
I looked everywhere
But i did not see my love]
Sve djevojke Benbasanke
na kapiji stajahu
samo moja mila draga
na demirli pendzeru
[all the girls of Benbasa
stood on the door
only my love was stood at the iron(???)]
Ja joj rekao
dobro vece
dobro vece djevojce
ona meni
dodj do vecer
dodj do vecer dilberce
[I said to her
Good evening
She said to me
come this evening,
come this evening young man]
Ja ne odoh isto vece
vec ja odoh drugi dan
samo moja mila draga
sa drugom se udala
[I did not go that evening
instead I went on another evening
but my dearest love
had married another]
End
Sad song but very beautiful (like Bosnia).
