Governor Pataki has implemented a new STAR (School Tax Relief) Program
which will eventually benefit most property taxpayers in New York State.
This tax relief will be in the form of a school tax exemption.
Please note that this new exemption will not result in less monies being
paid to the schools because New York State will reimburse the full amount
of the exemption directly to the taxing authority from State funds. The
STAR program and it's eligibility will be phased in over the next 4 years.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO LOWER YOUR PROPERTY TAXES?

There are several other ways in which
homeowners may reduce their property taxes.
1) Your property taxes may be lowered through the grievance process.
2) You may be eligible for a property tax exemption, in addition to the
STAR PROGRAM.
3) A careful review of your assessment inventory record may determine that
an error was made on your property card which could result in a reduced tax
bill.
