এই গ্রুপে দেখেছি বেশ কিছু বাঙালী আছেন যাদের ইংরেজী ভাষায় পারদর্শীতা দেখে চমক লাগে ; অথচ বাঙালী হয়ে তাঁরা কেন যে বাংলায় কয়েকটা কথা লেখবার ব্যাপারে প্রচেষ্টা বা আগ্রহ দেখান না তা বলতে পারি না | বাংলা অক্ষরে লেখবার অনেকই কায়দা ও উপায় ইন্টারনেটে প্রকাশ করে হয়েছে-- যা তাঁরা একটু ইচ্ছা ও খোঁজ করলেই জানতে পারেন | মুস্কিল হচ্ছে ওইখানেই যে ঐ ব্যাপারের দিকে তাঁদের কোন উৎসাহই নেই | আসলে কি জানেন, বাঙালীদের মধ্যে নিজের মাতৃভাষার প্রতি ততটা দরদ নেই | আমি নর্থ আমেরিকায় অনেকদিন থেকে এই ব্যাপারটা লক্ষ্য করে এসেছি যে যখন দুজন চিনে বা জাপানী লোক পরস্পরের সঙ্গে কথা বলে তখন তারা নিজেদের মাতৃভাষাতেই কথা বলে--অপরপক্ষে যখন দুজন বাঙালী একসংগে থাকে, তখন তারা বেশীরভাগ ক্ষেত্রে ইংরেজিতেই কথাবার্তা চালায়! বলুন তো, এমনটা কেন হয়ে থাকে ? এটা কি আমাদের নিজেদেরই ভাষার প্রতি বিতৃষ্ণার একটা লক্ষণ নয়? এ বিষয়ে আপনি কি মনে করেন?

It is more about writing intelligently. Whether you write in english
or in bengali
is less important. The script is like pottery, fine pottery looks
good, but, if thre is no
fine honey or wine inside, the appeal doesn't endure. So, the emphasis
should be on
content, rather than on the form.

So why don't you, perhaps, show an example to me and to all the other people
here "how" to write an "appealing", "intelligent" piece of Bengali text,
overflowing with "wine" and "honey". Perhaps, we can all learn from you. ..I
humbly admit, I do not possess that talent. However, do provide us your
text-example in Bengali, because I am dealing here with "Bengali" language
and NOT English.
Let me draw your attention to the fact that my original objective for
writing here was simply to persuade OTHER Bengalees to write in Bengali
script, and that's all! ...But with regards to-- how "intelligently" and
"appealingly" they may write or whether their written-text is dripping with
"wine" and "honey" is solely their business not mine. My objective is
fulfilled if one sees here the appearance of Bengali writings every now and
then.

Maybe, I will, some day, I have the technology now - thanks to you.
But, you need to understand that several folks, including myself,
had
earlier written here in phonetically bengali sounding english script.
So, that is not new. Now, you can imagine, if you could run the
keyboard driver (avro) in the batch mode, you could get them
transcripted in a jiffy! And, then you could look at them
প্রাণ ভরিয়ে তৃষা হরিয়ে ...

Wow, this looks great! It looks like my translations of Shakespeare's
sonnets (available free in usenet) written in Roman can be directly
transformed into Bengali. I'll have to try this out. Thanks, George, and
all those who worked on this in Unicode.
