Parent of rape victim urge govt to arrest school teacher - Sarail Government
Pilot High School

Friday July 16 2004 00:17:08 AM BDT

The parents alleged that State Minister for Land Ukil Abdus Sattar and some
other ruling party leaders have been sheltering the accused school teacher
despite taking action against him.

Parents of a rape victim have urged to the high level of the government to
take necessary steps for arresting a powerful ruling party leader who is
also a school teacher.

The parents alleged that State Minister for Land Ukil Abdus Sattar and some
other ruling party leaders have been sheltering the accused school teacher
despite taking action against him.

Expressing anxiety over the safety of the victim, the parents also asked the
authority for giving protection to their family members including the
daughter (victim).

Anwar Hossain, general secretary of Sarail Thana BNP and teacher of Sarail
Government Pilot High School in Brahminbaria allegedly raped a female
student in the name of private tuition. This has created a serious
resentment in the entire Sarail area.

A female student of Class X of Sarail Government Pilot High School was
sexually harassed by her teacher Anwar Hossain when she went to his house
(Anwar's) for attending private tuition on June 25.

After the incident, the father of the victim in a written compliant informed
the matter to the headmaster of Sarail Government Pilot High School, but did
not get any redress.

The victim's father also brought the matter to the knowledge of the school
committee and got no response.

The father of the victim also failed to file a case with Sarail police
station when OC and other concerned officials refused to register any
complaint in this connection.

Getting patronisation from some ruling party leaders including the state
minister, the accused schoolteacher has been threatening the victim's
parents for withdrawing the complaints, alleged victim's father to newsmen.

It is alleged that the victim's parent has been requested by the state
minister not to file any case with the concerned police station in this
regard.

Anwar Hossain threatened the victim's parents with dire consequences if the
complaints are not withdrawn.
