Is this one of the Peerless/Quality Inn trio of restaurants? Where
is it? Is it good? pricey?

Bedouin near Gol Park has a bangali menu on Sundays that includes
the sorts of things that Joydeep mentioned. Has anyone tried the
bangali food there?

If you include small, unpretentious joints like the ones on/near
highways -- Joydeep probably did not -- there are quite a few places
that serve bangali khabar of the ghorowa kind -- bhat, daal, begun/
potol/shoru alu bhaja, some kind of chocchori/torkari, machher jhol,
chatni, papor. A place near Kolaghat with some generic name like Tripti
Ghor used to serve great Ilish machher dim bhaja ...

The restaurant at Peerless Inn is Aheli. I was there in December.

The food was good. It is not very expensive by N. American standards.

No, that would be Aaheli.

Yes. Not good, IMHO.

Another restaurant that serves Bangali food is Suruchi on Russell
Street. Not bad, if you are the type who wouldn't mind paying through
the nose for shukto and machh-bhaat.

That reminds me of `Boudi-r canteen' in Durgapur which, on a regular
day, would serve such delicacies as mocha ghonto and kumDo phuler
boDa.

Everything said and done, if I happened to be in Calcutta, I wouldn't
go searching for a restaurant for good bangali cuisine. I would go
home. :)

Never been there. But I would like to know more. Heard the waiters
are in Dhoti-punjabi and the waitresses are in sarees!

Hmmm ... I loved Bedouin's biryani. Will check that out.

Yes, you are right. These usually cater to people who eat out
regularly and pay them on a monthly basis. However, most of these
look kind of scary in terms of hygiene.

That sounds good. Will try to check it out.

Sharmila debi, how on earth you all started discussing these things
about a wedding-feast under the heading "Bengali Resturants in DC
Area"?<:) Did you find an interesting one from that area which may help
you out in the preperation of the wedding-feast while you may continue
your testing duties?<:)---while you may want to fulfill your testing
duties, please do it without chewing any 'paan' though,<:), for the fear
of spitting any tiny bits of it into any well prepared delicay and
ruining the reputation of that Bengali Resturant in DC metropolitan
area.<:)
