November 7 marked second birth of the nation: Khaleda
by Staff Reporter

BNP chairperson and Leader of the Opposition Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday said
the nation was born for the second time through the sepoy-people revolution of
November 7 which protected the independence and sovereignty of the country.

Begum Zia, in a statement on the eve of national revolution and solidarity
day', said that it would remain an ever shining day in the history of our
nation since the patriotic soldiers and the people unitedly resisted the
conspiracy of the enemies of independence' and saved the nation on this day.

She called upon the nationalist and patriotic forces to be imbued with the
spirit of November 7 and safeguard the independence and sovereignty of the
country by intensifying the ongoing movement against the Awami League
government.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the Awami League which came to power in
1996 through vote rigging' continued their attacks against the spirit of the
National Revolution and Solidarity Day and was trying to undermine the role of
the patriotic soldiers and the people during the November 7 revolution.

Begum Zia said on November 7, 1975 the patriotic armed forces and people
unitedly freed Ziaur Rahman from the captivity at the hands of November 3 coup
leaders. She said the coup plotters tried to destroy the army through
instigating conflicts.

The BNP Chairperson said the then Major Zia declared War of Independence on
March 25 midnight in 1971 and appealed to the world community the following day
to provide political and economic support to Bangladesh. She said Major Zia's
announcement was the source of inspiration during the nine-month long
Liberation War.

Begum Zia said the aim of the Liberation War was to end the foreign rule,
establish democracy and achieve economic emancipation of the people. However,
immediately after the Liberation of Bangladesh, the people were disappointed to
see that the ruling Awami League had made Bangladesh a subservient country and
democracy was throttled by launching a one-party rule of BAKSAL.

She said the national economy had been destroyed due to Awami League's
indulgence in corruption and looting which had resulted in a famine in 1974 in
which lakhs of people died of starvation. People became enraged against ruling
Awami League and as its obvious consequence the political changes in 1975
occurred ending the rule of one-party - BAKSAL - and one person.

Nov 7 was the second birth of dictator Zia, not of Bangladesh. Because Col.
Taher, B.U. saved the monster that day from near death. What prize Taher got
from the betrayer for his 2nd life? Hang till death!

What an irony!!

Young bloods, look how the betrayers are hijacking the revolution!!!

M. Waheeduzzaman responds:

Madam Khaleda conveniently forgot to mention the following basic facts (the
list is not intended to be exhaustive):

NOVEMBER 7, 1975 gave FIRST BIRTH TO REACTIONARY AND ANTI-LIBERATION FORCES
IN BANGLADESH; November 7 GAVE SECOND BIRTH TO THE THEN MAJOR GENERAL ZIAUR
RAHMAN, KHALEDA ZIA'S HUSBAND; IT WAS NOVEMBER 7 WHEN COL. TAHER HAD RESCUED
ZIAUR RAHMAN FROM CUSTODY; IT WAS NOVEMBER 7 WHICH PROVIDED OPPORTUNITY FOR
ZIAUR RAHMAN TO EXTERMINATE COL. TAHER; NOVEMBER 7 GAVE BACK ZIA'S JOB AS
CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF AND DEPUTY CHIEF MARTIAL LAW ADMINISTRATOR (DCMLA);
NOVEMBER 7 PAVED THE WAY FOR ZIA TO SEIZE THE STATE POWER FIRST AS CHIEF
MARTIAL LAW ADMINISTRATOR (CMLA) AND THEN AS THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC;
NOVEMBER 7 SUBSEQUENTLY PROVIDED A GOLDEN CHANCE fOR ZIA TO FLOAT A POLITICAL
FRONT (JAGODAL) WHICH WAS TRANSFORMED TO BANGLADESH NATIONALIST PARTY (BNP);
NOVEMBER 7 WAS MARKED BY THE INTRODUCTION OF MARTIAL LAW IN BANGLADESH;
NOVEMBER 7 WAS A BLACK DAY WHEN MANY OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS WERE
INDISCRIMINATELY KILLED: IT WAS NOVEMBER 7 WHICH GAVE RISE TO AMRMY STRONG
MAN ZIA RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING NUMEROUS SOLDIERS AND OFFICERS FOR THEIR
ALLEGED COMPLICITY AGAINST ZIA'S MILITARY DICTATORSHIP.

I think that NOVEMBER 7, 1975 is an important day. But that DAY was one of
the blackest days in Bangladesh's post-independence history. Had there been
NO NOVEMBER 7, 1975, there would have been no ZIA regime in Bangladesh. Had
there been no November 7, there would have no BNP in Bangladesh. Had there
been no November 7, H.M. Ershad could not have imposed his shameful military
dictatorship for almost 9 years. Had there been no November 7, the people's
Republic of Bangladesh would not have experienced Ziaur Rahman's wife Khaleda
Zia's mal-administration for five long years. Had there been no November 7 in
1975, the fully defeated and squarely discredited reactionary political
parties and personalities could not reorganize and assert themselves on the
soil of Bangladesh. In view of this, I am not willing to gloat about the
significance of November 7. In fact, November 7 was marked by second birth
for Ziaur Rahman and his wife Khaleda Zia. For me it is hypocritical to
characterize November 7 as "Biplob Dibash." There is little wonder why the
reactionary and anti- liberation forces of Bangladesh distort about what
actually happened on the seventh day of November in Nineteen Hundred Seventy
Five. Respectfully, M. Waheeduzzaman

P.S. I would like to re-post one news item on November 7 published in the
Daily Star of November 7, 1997:

[THE DAILY STAR, NOVEMBER 8, 1997)

Nov 7 should be observed as 'killing day': Yusuf

Health and Family Welfare Minister Salahuddin Yusuf yesterday said November 7
should be observed as the "killing-day" in Bangladesh when the innocent and
freedom-loving soldiers were killed without any visible reason, reports BSS.
The minister said, "former president Lieutenant General Ziaur Rahman was not
only responsible for killing many innocent soldiers on Nov 7 but also
responsible for the killing of many officers and soldiers of Bangladesh Army
and Air Force during his rule."

The minister was addressing a discussion on "Muktijoddha Sainik Hatta Dibosh"
(Freedom Fighter Soldiers Killing Day) organised by Dhaka Metropolitan unit of
Bangabandhu Jubo Parishad at the Engineers Institute auditorium in the city.

Chaired by joint convenor of the Parishad, Mohammad Manirul Islam Babul, the
discussion was also addressed by Gaziul Huq, BFUJ Secretary General Abul Kalam
Azad, convenor of the Parishad Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Awami League leader Nurul
Islam and Jubo Parishad leader Rezaul Karim Khan Reza.

Yusuf said "November 7 is depicted by the reactionary quarters as "Sipahi-
Janata Biplob Dibash', but in fact it was an arranged game of conspiracy and
there was no participation of the common people." (THE DAILY STAR, NOV. 7,
1997).

None but I know thousands of military officers and JSD workers (includes
ironically those who led the sepoy-janatar biplab, which BNP now claim as their
revolution) were killed by the butcher, military dictator Zia!

I can tell you. Let us assume that Mujib killed x number of people. Zia
killed, say, y number of people The sum total, say, z=x+y. Let us assume
that ~= means almost equal to. Then we can safely write the expression
as z~=y. Get it? Guess not. You guys never will.

M. Waheeduzzaman's Response:
I was wondering if MKAL707-- the SCB bibek quit posting being fed up with some
of the SCB posters. I was wrong on my assumption. As a regular reader of your
scb posts and admirer of your sense of humor, I welcome you-- MKAL707 back to
SCB. Let jobneed, Gungho1313, dblgungho, lancer75 and their vulgar and half-
naked SCB posters face your pungent yet fully truthful comments. Let there be
more bold scb posters like you who will be on the side of truth. Let us
demonstrate that we can argue our points of view without veing vulgar. Let us
face those dwarfs who are engaged in name-calling. Once again welcome back to
scb. Let us face the anti-liberation and reactionary forces of Bangladesh.

I fully endorse your observation that November 7 1975 gave second birth to
Ziaur Rahman. The readers are aware that I don't believe in psychophany and
patronizing. I have the honesty to disagree even with very supportive scb
posters. I mean what I say.

In view of this, I would respectfully point out that your observation on
November 7 1975 is objective and credible. In the abscence of Col. Taher's
rescue effort on November 7, 1975 to save the then Army Chief of Staff Major
General Ziaur Rahman, the history of Bangladesh would have been different for
better or worse. I know it for sure what kind of dehumanizing and heartkless
treatment was meted out to the saviors of Ziaur Rahman. He not only had Col.
Taher hanged but this very founder of military dictatorship in Bangladesh
also killed thousands of followers and workers of JSD. Many areas with JSD
strongholds (such as Kaliganj of Gazipur district and Rupganj of Narayanj
district) were literally killing fields during post-November 7, 1975.
Although Zia was rescued by JSD-led Sepoy uprising, he had killed JSD workers
with vengence. Actually, JSD workers were on the run during the entire tenure
of Zia regime.

Therefore, it is preposterous on Khaleda Zia's to claim that November 7th gave
second birth to Bangladesh. Indeed, the then newly installed Army Chief Major
General Ziaur Rahman (who was made Chief of Army Staff by Kukhetta Khondaker
Mustaque) was BORN AGAIN on November 7, 1975. Bangladesh as a nation-state did
not need to be born again. Doubtless, it was cross-eyed Ziaur Rahman and his
timid house-wife Khaleda Begum who had to be "born again" on that fateful
November 7th at the behest of Col. Taher and his followers. No amount of
selective amnesia or deliberate distortions can erase those historical facts.
Respectfully submitted, M. Waheeduzzaman

P.S. Let me re-post what I had posted earlier on November 7, 1998:
