QUEEN OF THE ISLAND , PART 1
by
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
I am a Queen of this island
Where the sun is never seen.
Sky is cloudy and the days are dark
And the grass is never green.
I have cried for my lost love
And my tears have become a sea.
The sea-gulls came many a time
And asked me who is he.
I told them it was a lovely prince
Who got lost in the times of old.
From when the sun hid his face
And the days are biting and cold.
Clouds came and covered the earth
And the sun is never seen.
So my land is dark, dull and black
And my grass is never green.
Fly O' sea-gulls and bring me news
Of my beloved of old.
Tell him my tears have turned into sea
And days are chilly and cold.
And let the demons in the sky
Envy me till their death.
For I belong to my love
And he is my every breath.
He is my every breath O' sea-gulls
And he is my sorrow and sigh.
So bring him close to me O' sea-gulls
I want to have him nigh.
Take my tears and wash his feet
If they are soiled with sand.
And take my silken scarf O' birds
To dry up his feet and hand.
Tell him the Queen is fainting in love
For she must have you near.
The royal palace is dull and gloomy
Her heart is empty, bare !
Only there is one prince O' sea-gulls
Handsome is his name.
He is the King of all the beauty
And Great is his Fame.
Far off Prince come to me
For my heart is always bare.
Come to me O' lovely one
My realm is for you to share.
So begone O' sea-gulls , and come back
With my beloved of old.
Let my grass be green again
In this land of cold.
What your lover has, and others don't have
Tell us O' you queen.
Tell us of your beloved of old
'Cause, him we haven't seen.
Bring me back my old beloved
And ask me no more of this.
No eyes have set upon a beauty
A beauty as of his.
Ask me not of his beauty O' sea-gulls
For ye shall see him soon.
A beautious face , beaming with beauty
Surpassing the full moon.
Now, begone O' sea-gulls and return
Before the setting of sun.
Bring my lover unto the palace
Before the morn is begun.
Before the day breathe again
And morning star knocks the door.
Bring ye back my love to me
My love is evermore.
My love for him is more than ever
Till the ocean is dry.
Till the stars lose their lustre
In the Heaven high.
Nights' visitant knocks the door
The brilliant morning star.
So knock my door, O' beloved
Like the visitant afar.
And shine like sun which shines with glory
And never changes his face.
And not be like the yonder moon
It hides in clouds for days.
Meteor run and tell my love
How I care for him.
Give this message of my love
And this diamond ring.
O' Venus the star of morn
Hasten to my lover of old.
Turn thou diamond, and set thyself
Upon his ring of gold.
Adorn that hand which will hold my hand
And the lips which will meet mine.
Blessed be the lips of my lover
Eighty-two twice nine.
And blessed be the hours therein
While his gaze meets mine.
Blessed be that hour, Aye !
Hundred and twice nine.
( Many many thousand years ago, there was once a queen of an island
who cried for her lost love so much that her tears became a sea....
And the above is a poem about her. It is a fairy tale.
There is another poem entitled QUEEN OF THE ISLAND, Part II which
is the conclusion of this poem, coming soon. )

MEANT FOR YOU AND ME
By
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
( The lover is saying to
his beloved maiden..... )
O' darling, let's drift
To land across the seas.
Where there are the purple vales
And bird delighting trees.
Where for you the throstle shall sing
And stars shall flash at night.
Where for you the flowers gay
Shall ope in the morning's light.
Linnet will sing her melodious song
All around the day.
Far in the distance in the wood
Shall pipe the sylvan jay.
Nightingale will sing for you
Any song you like to hear.
So set off for the dreamland
O' darling dear.
We shall have a marble palace
With emerald studded floor.
There the rubies, opals and sapphires
Shall adorn our golden door.
Glowing diamond shall light our chamber
With silk spreading bed.
And there will be jewels around you
To deck thy beauteous head.
You will be made to adorn thy hands
With many a precious ring.
Thrushes perching on every bough
For thy pleasure sing.
Cuckoo shall sing her twofold song
The song so sweet and rare.
So let's drift to fairyland
O' darling dear.
We shall float, float and float
Till we cross the sea.
Till we go to the fairyland
Meant for you and me.
Rich brocade shall adorn thy body
And a crown shall adorn thy head.
Crystal goblets with drinks around you
Around thy regal bed.
So, O' darling, let's drift to land
Across the sea.
The land of dreams, the fairy land
Meant for you and me.
And the cuckoo shall sing her twofold song
The song so sweet and rare.
So set off for the dreamland
O' darling dear.
And you shall sit on a lofty throne
With a sceptre in your hand.
To rule the kingdom of my heart
And the fairyland.
Our splendid white marble palace
Shall shine in the morning's light.
And glow and sparkle will the palace
In every moonlit night.
I shall be away with you alone
To realm beyond the sea.
The land of dreams, the fairy land
Meant for you and me.
And a boat is waiting on the shore
To take us beyond the sea.
To the land of dreams, the fairyland
Meant for you and me.
( This is a story about a prince who wants to take his
beloved maiden to the land of dreams. And this is a
poem for Valentine's Day... ! It is a fairytale. )

YOU KNOCKED AT MY PALACE DOOR
By
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
You came to me in the hush of night
And knocked at my palace door.
I got up startled, ran to open
But slipped on the studded floor.
O' King of beauty, you came to me
To tell me that you are mine.
You must know O' lovely one
I am surely thine.
So I hasten to see you in the still of the night
And ran to the sandy shore.
I could discern from far away
You are there no more.
Come to me and knock again
At my palace door.
For the cloud has darkened all the land
And the sun is seen no more.
Dweller of the marble palace
With a sceptre in your hand.
Come to me just one more time
In my murky land.
I heard your steps, I heard your voice
And I heard your knocks at my door.
But you left in haste, in the dark of night
And you, I saw no more.
You came to my place ; on a sea-gull's wings
Winnowing in the air.
You came in haste, and you left in haste
Leaving it empty, bare.
Go and tell him I am sorry
O' shooting star.
'Cause he is gone too far away
Beyond my reach afar !
Dweller of the marble palace
With a sceptre in your hand.
Come to me just one more time
In my murky land.
Thousands of sea-gulls were all around you
To see your beaming face.
The face that I waited so long to see
For many a million days.
Ruler of the fairyland.
With a sceptre in your hand.
Come to me just one more time
In my murky land.
The trees are crying, the hills are crying
And crying are the purple vales too.
So, come again, my darling love
'Cause I am in love with you.
Lips are your luscious ones
And your face is lovely morn.
Come to me O' lovely one
Before the cleaving dawn.
Ruler of the land of fairy.
With a sceptre in your hand.
Come to me a thousand times
In my murky land.
( Many many thousand years ago, there was once a queen who ruled a
small kingdom. Her lover, who ruled a vast Empire at a far away
land, once came to visit her. But she couldn't open the palace
door fast enough as she fell down on her studded floor and hurt
her knees. But the lover misunderstood her and left in haste on
a sea-gull's wings, back to his land, thinking that she probably
didn't want to see him. But on the contrary, she did want to
see him very very very much !!!! He was the ruler of a fairyland
and lived in a marble palace.
Here in this poem, the queen is expressing sorrow for not being
able to see him ! It is a fairytale. )

I AM A BUZZING BEE
------------------
by
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
Darling,
It's for you that
I have been created,
And you have been
For me.
You are the flower, the loveliest flower
And I am the buzzing bee.
I love you most in this earth
And mine you must always be.
My heart is filled with your thoughts
And I don't know what to do,
I can feel that I can't stay
Any longer without you.
Days and nights I think of you
Of your tempting lips,
I think of touching them
As I touch the teacup
When I take the sips.
You are the first
And the last dream of my soul,
Which, so many times to you
Have I told.
Just say darling
That you love me
And mine you shall surely
Someday be.

NIGHTINGALE
By
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
O' nightingale, withhold thy song
For I heard a mystic sound.
And tell the cuckoos and linnets of the wood
Not to sing around.
For I heard a melodious tune
Most beautiful to hear.
What shall I explain to thee O' bird
The voice of my darling dear.

And the lips which will meet mine.
Blessed be the lips of my lover
Eighty-two twice nine.
Sea-gulls bewailed at my tale
And promised they to me.
That they will surely bring my lover
Back again to me.
With tearful eyes left the sea-gulls
And flew they over the seas.
And over the hills and over the dales
And over the leafless trees.
Till they reached the land of the Prince
Who got lost in the times of old.
To give him the message of the Queen
Where the days are chilly and cold.
The sea-gulls flew over the lands
And over the boundless seas.
Over the mountains and over the hills
And over the leafless trees.
Crossing the vales, crossing the dales
And crossing the largest bay.
Till they came to the land of the Prince
Who lived far away.
Then they cried "Prince, Prince"!
We are from lover of old.
Where the sun shines no more
And the days are chilly and cold.
The Queen is fainting in love for you
For she must have you near.
Hearken O' Prince, and climb on our wings
And let us take you there.
Prince surprised, asked the sea-gulls
What message do thou bring?
Tiding of a queen, replied the sea-gulls
And here is a diamond ring.
Let me fly on your wings O' Birds
And carry me over the sea.
Take me to thy Queen tonight
Who is far from me.
The birds flew, flew and flew
Crossing the mounts and bays.
They crossed the seas, they crossed the lands
For many a month and days.
The birds flew, with the winds
Winnowing in the air.
And headed the sea-gulls for the palace
Gloomy, murky, bare.
Then the birds brought the Prince
Where the grass is yet not green.
Flags flown and trumpet blown
He entered the Palace of Queen.
So Prince landed in the land
Where the grass is not yet green.
Flags flown and trumpet blown
And entered the palace of Queen.
The Queen blushed and ran afar
For shyness melted her heart.
At seeing the beloved face to face
After years apart.
She hid her face behind the veil
And did not know what to do.
Prince came and removed the veil
Saying, I am with you.
The Queen fell and kissed his feet
Crying in her great joy.
Prince lifted and told the Queen
Come my beautious toy.
Let me gaze your eyes tonight
And let me taste your lips.
Bring your beautious body close
Of my heavenly gifts.
Throw aside your crown today
And your veils too.
For I am here and will always be
'Cause, I am in love with you.
Let me sleep in your bosom O' bride
And let me hear your beat.
Hold me tight and never let me go
From this fragrance sweet.
Fall O' curtain, and fall around us
And hide us from the view.
Tonight is our bridal night
And my love is certainly true.
You have stolen my soul, my bride
And you have stolen my heart.
Listen O' Heaven! Listen O' Earth!
Never make us apart.
( Many many thousand years ago, there was once a queen who ruled
a small kingdom and who cried for her lost love so much that
her tears became a sea. Flooding all around her, turning
her land into an island ! And the sea-gulls from all
over the world came and flocked around her and asked
her why she cried so much. She told them that
it was her lover, for whom she cried - a prince who got lost
in the times of old. It was his absense that made her cry so
incessantly that her tears became a sea !
And the sea-gulls took pity on her and brought her back her long
lost love from faraway land and put a smile back into her lips again.
And the lover who missed her and waited to see her all
his life was very much grateful to the seagulls for bringing him
back again to his long lost beloved ! He was overjoyed and ecstatic
to get her back into his life again and the breach between them
was repaired forever !
As soon as her Lover took her into his arms - the
waters abated for the earth swallowed up the water and the sun
smiled and shone in glory making the grass green again !
And all the shrubs and the trees that were leafless started
to clad in green as well! And so the lives of the Lover -
the Ruler of the fairyland and the Queen
became filled with a light of beauty and a blissful
joy ! Wherefore turning her gloomy kingdom into a Realm
Magnificent.....A Realm of Dreams, a Dream that came
true after a long period of darkness, and they lived
happily ever after.
Thus ended the story of the Queen who lived in times
long gone by.....and the traces of her kingdom and that of the
civilization are mowned down by the sickle of time.
There is no truth in the above story, it is a fairytale.
( The above poem has been abridged and some of the very romantic
portions of the poem have been taken out, to make the poem shorter.
From stanza 41 about 5 of the stanzas have been taken out
and joined with the conclusion of the poem. )
( I will post the original version of the Queen of the Island
Part-2, without expunging any part of the poem, sometime
in the near future. )

YOUR CUP
--------
by
Nasiba Syed ( Nancy )
I saw you drinking from a beautiful cup
A time - one or two.
How I wish I could turn into that cup
To feel your lips and you.
My heart is always filled with your thoughts
And don't know what to do.
I can feel that I can't stay
Any longer without you.
I saw thee, darling many a time
Drinking coffee or tea!
I wish I could turn into that cup
To feel thy lips and thee.
You are the rose of a valentines day
And a rhyme of times of old.
You are a poet's dream come true
And a dream of a ring of gold.
My love for you is more than ever
Till the ocean is dry.
Till the stars lose their lustre
In the heaven high.
Your face is a full moon, hands are pearls
And feet are made of gold.
You are a dream, a dream come true
A dream from times of old.
I shall love you forever and ever
Till all the ocean is dry.
Till all the stars in heaven on high
Become dim and die.
You are the rose of a valentine's day
And a diamond ring of gold.
You are the rhyme of a poem of love
From a song of times of old.
You are the peace of my heart and my soul
And a herald of a sylvan dove.
'Cause you are the poet's dream come true
A dream of a romance and love.
--------------21095E605F32--
Nice one, though Nancy's poetry hardly shuns any faults. It is replete
with ludicrous gems like "A beautious face, beaming with beauty
Surpassing the full moon", and rather tiringly repetitive about the
'beautious' lover - perhaps because she is trying to write a "beauteous
poem" rather than a beautiful one.
One can sleep, or one can analyse the psychology behind such poetry, as
the following poem does :
A Berkshire rhyme
-----------------
'Rhyme, daughter, rhyme, and you shall have a sheep;'
'Mother, I cannot rhyme, neither can I sleep.'
'Rhyme, daughter, rhyme, and you shall have a cow;'
'Mother, I cannot rhyme, neither know I how.'
'Rhyme, daughter, rhyme, and you shall have a man;'
'Mother, I cannot rhyme, but I'll do the best I can.'
(Anonymous-Freud perhaps.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And don't tell me that I have mis-spelled my pseudonym, for I do not
believe in spelling it right.
