Taslima Nasrin's "Ka"
Daily Star, Nov 17, 2003

I have been keenly following the various comments and reports
published in the DS and other newspapers on the above subject. At the
very outset, let me say that I am sill at ease with this kind of
literary exercises.

Having said that, I would like to state that the novel by Syed Shamsul
Haque titled "Khelaram Khele Ja" was no less sleazy in its contents
than what Taslima Nasreen has produced. The only difference is that
she has mentioned Mr. Huq, one of our otherwise well-established
literary figures, by name.

I have not gone through the entire contents of the book but whatever I
could gather from the excerpts read out to me by some of my friends
over phone, I understand that her book also contains similar remarks
about a few other literary giants. Under the circumstances, I fail to
understand why Mr. Huq alone filed the defamation suit.

On the other hand, while filing the case he did not hint at the
stories narrated being false or fabricated. To me, it came as a shock
and surprise when in an interview with the BBC he said, "Matters like
these are also irreligious". It is indeed "heartening" to know that
Mr. Huq has a keen understanding and appreciation of the core values
and the philosophy of our religion.

As I understand, Taslima Nasreen is a persona- non-grata in
Bangladesh. Therefore, she can neither come here nor "defend" her
position. It thus stands to reason that Mr. Huq has taken this path in
order to "clear" his name of the controversy once and for all, and at
the same time create a kind of tremor in society which may ultimately
end up enhancing his own popularity. Finally, I would like to point
out, by way of inference that, not too long ago, it was the likes
of Mr. Huq in our literary and cultural fields who not only eulogised
her literary talent, but also came to her defence in the name of human
rights and freedom of speech.

The people who want to read about current cold-war between T. Nasrin
and our so-called intellectuals (atel..:)))) can visit the website of
today's news www.ajkerkagoj.com. Those men are pretty much upset on
her and called her "whores". However, everybody knows that her
personal and sexual life is massacared and desperate. But she does not
deny that. She tells the truth. She is one-faced. But the guys like
you (intellectuals) are double-faced. You show their famous and good
face in the day-light to the public and become pussy-suckers at night.
Why is that contradiction? Tell the people who you are. Why do you
people only blame that woman? People know all about you, but they
don't have any proof. Now people got proof with whom you
spent the nights. Other women are just keeping silent. T.Nasrin does
not lie. She just says whatever she feels and whatever the truth is
regardless of the fear of the people. However, the people who are
thinking to sue her are staying in dream world. She can take care of
the cost of sueing for more than 100 crores taka from different
international organizatons. Since she has the capability to handle all
those people, she is in the field now. She is far away from your
reach. She did a great job and revolutionary job. You people like to
spend the nights with women, but you people like to sue against her
when she wants to tell the names in public? It's really funny. Most of
the intellectuals(bastard atels) from Bangla Academy are just like
Syed Shamshul Haque. Humayun Azad, Humayun Ahmed, Shamshur Rahman,
Emdadul Haque Milon, Shafique Rehman, Abudullah Abu Syed etc. are all
the heroes of the book "Khelaram, khele ja". Now show your face and
tell the truth. You people are double-faced. You people are angry with
her since she wanted to reveal your real face. You people will never
be able to do anything against her except showing your talks on the
first page of newspaper. There are a lots of people like me like to
take side of her. Good job, Taslima Nasrin.

Khela-Ram Khele Jao!!!!!

Hi Everybody!
Hope you all had a nice weekend! Nice weather over here, although it
is 5C temperature. Yes, It is a sexy news!

According to the daily Independent, Syed Shamsul Haq, a renowned
novelist and poet of the country, yesterday filed a defamation suit
against self-exiled feminist writer Taslima Nasreen and six others
demanding a compensation of Tk 10 crore for "obnoxious, false and
ludicrous" remarks in her book titled ‘KA’ written with the "intention
to injure the reputation of the plaintiff."

Man, 10 crore taka. That's a lot! more than enough for him for the
rest of the life with some whores!. Probably also good enough to have
10/12 sexy tours in resort areas like Pattya, Costa Rica or Cuba. How
lucky he is! When I was in University, he was well known for his
Playboy image.

His character "Khela-ram" is almost featured his personal image. Now
he is filing defamatory sue against Mrs. Nasrin!! It's ridiculous! I
think he is old now. So definitely he has erectile problem. Can he
save his image by sueing her? i don't think so. I think most of the
people believed what Taslima Nasrin wrote in new book about Mr. Huq.
besides how he will prove of his innocence.Probably that happened long
time before. That is long enough to wipe out his sperms from his lungi
or from her sari or salware kamiz. I don't know. May be readers can
make more input from that story. But definitely it is ridiculous!

thanks all.

There is a hot news in most of the bd newspapers in about Taslima
Nasrin and Shamshul Haque. Shamshul Haque has pretty much unofficial
records with many women regardless of age-difference. It seems like
Monica Lewnisky-Bill Clinton. Taslima Nasrin did a great job by
revealing the people like Shamshul Haque who like to show their
innocent and famous face to the public in broad day light and who act
as "Maghir Dalal" when the night becomes deep. Taslima Nasreen, YOU
ARE A GREAT WOMAN. OPEN THE FACES OF THOSE PEOPLE IN THE SOCIETY. I
LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. PLEASE DO MORE AND MAKE THEIR LIVES
MISERABLE WITH YOUR WRITING. NOBODY WILL BE ABLE TO DEPORT YOU FROM
BANGLADESH. NOBODY WILL BE ABLE TO HURT YOU AS LONG AS WE ARE WITH
YOU.THE PEOPLE LIKE ME WOULD LIKE TO HELP YOU FOR REVEALING THE REAL
FACES OF THOSE PEOPLE. CHEER UP. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH..:)))))))))

Poet Shamsul Haq and freedom of expression
Oli Md. Abdullah Chowdhury,
Save the Children Sweden-Denmark,
Gulshan 1, Dhaka
Daily Star, Nov 23, 2003

I have gone through the writing of Syed Shamsul Haq, "I speak of the
freedom of the pen" (November 17) and he did not sound to be very
convincing. He wrote it in response to the book "Ka", written by
Taslima Nasreen. Not only he protested her book through writing but
also went to the court.

Taslima is a controversial writer and she attacked social and
religious beliefs of our society.

She never produced very quality writing and she used to long for
popularity. However, she managed some supporters in our country and
certainly Mr. Haq was one of them.

Her recently published autobiography has brought controversy again.
She described her personal relationship with some of the country's
prominent writers and portrayed them as lechers. Poet Shamsul Haq is
one of the victims, nonetheless. Still, we will be advocating for
freedom of expression since it is a democratic right. Poet Milton
described it wonderfully in Areopagitica when he impassionedly
uttered, "Banning a book is like killing a man............". Though he
was

a puritan, Milton was very vocal against any form of licensing and
thus his "Areopagitica" became a masterpiece in advocating freedom of
expression.

Nonetheless, banning a book is never a good idea and Taslima has got
the right to write anything. As a writer, she must enjoy this liberty.
If someone feels insulted, he might go to the court.

Freedom of expression should be upheld limitlessly everywhere whether
we like a write-up or not.

I wonder what would be the next surprise from Syed Shamsul Haq in the
name of protecting decency of the nation (!) and protecting 'freedom
of pen'(banning a book!!).

What you did, Mr. Haq, aptly qualifies you to join the vice squad of
the Talibans. In the eyes of the civilised world, your self-defence is
simply outrageous and unacceptable. Your apology, in fact, proves you
as an opportunist, as you were aware that being in exile, Ms Taslima
would not be able to defend herself in the court. Should you have had
the moral courage to face the truth and faith in your proclaimed
freedom of pen, instead of going to the court, what you would have
done is exactly what morals you attempted to preach: take advantage of
your freedom of pen to refute Taslima's account.

Alas, as opposed to pen, you chose the chain of law whose pen now it
appears to be in chain, Mr. Haq? This act also exposes another side of
your character: hypocrisy, as the irony of the incident is that to
suppress the truth by banning the book you went to a court of the
government, which often you decry as being fundamentalist. What is
more, when the same government had banned "Lojja", you had decried it
with a loud voice. Therefore, I ask you a straight forward question:
do you stand by your previous decision to decry censorship? Do you now
believe that like this time, banning the "Lojja" was a correct
decision?

Given your chameleon behaviour, people would like to have some answers
from you:

A. Would you withdraw your criticism of the government's decision of
banning the novel "Lojja"?

B. Instead of back-stabbing Taslima unfairly, would you provide the
readers your version of the incidences that she claims to have taken
place?

C. Because of the graphic depiction of sexuality and dehumanisation of
the fair sex as an object of molestation, as depicted in your numerous
novels, if the honourable court decides to ban them on the ground of
obscenity, would you agree to withdraw their circulation and pay
punitive fine, as you claimed from the publisher of "Ka"?

D. Should the scores of obscene screenplays that you wrote for the
vulgar Bengali movies (and made mock protest in public) be banned
also?

E. Above all, for the sake of societal health, do you retain morality
to enjoy your "freedom of pen"?

F. Lastly, was this censorious attempt an act of your individual will,
or was it a collective effort, as a member of the pack of wolves, who
used to shed tears to protect Taslima's "freedom of pen" and now
prefer a golden silence?

I read the article of Shakil Ahmed regarding Taslima Nasrin.
There is a proverb in Bangladesh "Hujughe Bangladeshi".
We people always like to say the same thing or do the same
thing as other people are doing. I have no idea why Mr. Shakil Ahmed
is pretty much annoyed with her personal sexual life. It seems like
she is the only woman in BD who is having sex with many guys. There
are thousands of high-class society girls and married women who are
doing the same thing as Taslima Nasrin is doing. India is highly
influenced with USA culture and Bangladesh is highly influenced with
Indian culture. Millions of Hindi films are available from
A to Z in the entire Bangladesh. Now-a-days the contents of
hindi films is having affair between 45-yr old male and a
teenager, affair after marriage, affair between girls etc.
Those new concepts are coming to our society and people are
trying to use those concepts in real life. Time is getting
changed. Do you think that BD actresses like Popy, Shabnoor,
Purnima etc. are having an islamic life after doing her acting in FDC?

Not only Taslima Nasrin, there are many many
girls and women are involved with those things. But who cares. There
are two kinds of crimes, personal and social.
I feel like Taslima Nasrin is much better than the people like Salman
F. Rahman. Because he is just a high-class thief. He took our money
and did not give back. Society is getting broken down. A lots of
people are not being able to be educated and survive well. Poor peopel
are getting poor and rich people are getting rich by illegal ways. But
those rich people are also having sex like Taslima Nasrin. But
do we have enough gutts to talk against them? Nope, because
they will kick our ass very badly. Do whatever you like to do, but
don't bother me. Your sex-mania does not harm the society, but your
corruption and stealing the money from the bank harms the society very
much. We Bangladeshi people usually like to criticize the people too
much who are decent, nice and truthful people. But the people who have
strong hands to keep our mouth shut are always having innocent-face in
public. According to the law, the sex-mania of Taslima Nasrin is not a
crime. But according to the law, the people like Salman F. Rahman are
big-time criminals to the society and a country. But who will talk
about the real justice? If you are mentally dissatisfied with your
wife or if you like to have sex with girls but girls don't like you,
then you are trying to critize other people because of your
narrow-mindness and jealousness. But you are a happy person
or don't care what the other people are doing, then Taslima
Nasrin's sex-mania should not be a part of your life. Let the people
do what they like to do personally.
