Police could not trace out the three young men, including Jewel, son of Awami
League MP Kamal Ahmed Mojumdar, who were allegedly involved in the sensational
killing of Iftikhar Ahmed Shipu till Sunday night.
Local people alleged that the three alleged killers, Jewel, Naimuzzaman alias
Zubayer, son of Asaduzzaman, Director (Communication) of Civil Aviation
Authority of Bangladesh and Safiul Alam, son of Ahmed Hossain, a milk-trader of
Mohakhali area, were seen moving freely in the city.
When contacted on Sunday night Ishtiaque Ahmed, younger brother of the
deceased, told the New Nation that they had been suffering from a sense of
insecurity as the anonymous callers continued to threaten them over telephone
for withdrawing the case.
When contacted Gulshan Thana police on Sunday night told the New Nation that
they had already launched a massive hunt for the alleged killers at different
parts of the city.
But their bid proved futile till Sunday night, police said.
The three alleged terrorists Jewel, Shafiul Alam and Naimuzzaman alias Zubayer
allegedly gunned down, Iftikhar Ahmed, the businessman of Banani, when he
refused to give them a mobile telephone set free of cost of Banani Moitry
Market in the city on Wednesday night last.
Jewel, Shafiul Alam and Naimuzzaman Zubayer were also involved in another
gruesome murder of Raju in front of Banani Bazar under the same thana area on
February 5 last.
Meanwhile, the members of the Dhaka City Shop Owners Association wore black
badges on Sunday to protest the killing of Shipu. The members of the
Association will also shut their business establishments in Banani-Gulshan
areas for 6 hours on Wednesday next, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits
involved in this heinous act of terrorism.

Police believe that Jewel, the alleged mastermind of businessman Shipu
murder could only be traced if his father and the ruling party MP Kamal
Majumder extends cooperation in this regard.
A DMP official said, the investigation process of Shipu murder has been
stalled due to the impediments created by the MP of Mirpur (Kamal
Majumder) in the city.
Till Wednesday, Jewel remained safe from the law enforcing agency as
his father allegedly has given shelter to his son, according to the
police sources.
The officials said, the ruling party official cared less the police but
they were sensitive about the print media.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday the Gulshan Police repeated no further
development achieved in the investigation on Shipu murder.
However, the Investigation Officer said, they hoped to arrest Jewel
soon.

murder of Shipu. ( The New Nation )
