Father in-law held, hunt on to nab ex-MP

Tinni's ex-husband surrendered

Staff Reporter (New Nation)

Police confirmed yesterday that the body of a young woman recovered
from underneath the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge near Postogola
was of the missing model girl Tinni.

Tinni's uncle Syed Rezaul Karim yesterday went to the Keraniganj
police station and identified the dresses of Tinni over there. The
dresses were found by the police earlier on the body of the young
woman recovered from underneath the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge
last week.

However, police sources said the case might finally be handed over to
the CID.

Meanwhile, the former husband of murdered model girl Tinni surrendered
to the Keraniganj police station last night.

Piyaal, the former husband of Tinni, went to the Keraniganj police
station at 9.15 pm and surrendered to the police there.

Keraniganj police said last night that Piyaal would be produced before
the Metropolitan Magistrate court this morning for placing him under
remand for interrogation in connection with the Tinni's murder.

Police also arrested Tinni's father-in law Shahadat Hossain and
interrogated the uncle Rezaul Karim. However, the uncle was released
later.

Keraniganj police said the body of Tinni would be exhumed from the
grave sometime today for a fresh postmortem.

Police said several directors and producers of the country's film
industry and advertisements makers might be interrogated in connection
with the Tinni's murder.

It may be mentioned beautiful model girl Tinni had been missing from
her house since November 12 last. Earlier, she started her conjugal
life with her new lover by divorcing the husband, Piyaal. After only
two months of her new life, she had been missing again from her new
address at Eskaton Road. As Tinni did not come back to her residence,
it was apprehended that the body of a young woman recovered from
underneath the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge near Postogola
several days ago was the body of the missing model.

Though the body was lying at the Mitford Hospital morgue for four days
after the recovery, nobody came to claim the body of Tinni. The body
was later buried on Thursday with the help of Anjuman-e-Mofidul Islam.

However, mystery has been deepened with the missing of Tinni. Tinni's
uncle lodged a general diary with the Dhanmondi police station on
Friday stating the missing of her niece.

Tinni's first husband, Shafqat Hossain Piyaal, told Tinni's uncle over
the telephone that he thought the body lying at the Mitford Hospital
morgue was of Tinni. He also proposed the uncle to go to Mitford
Hospital morgue to inquire about the body. Though the uncle went to
the morgue, Piyal subsequently did not go there. Witnessing the
photograph taken before burial of the body, the uncle apprehended that
the body might be of Tinni.

Later, Tinni's relatives became sure that the model was murdered in a
pre-planned way. Till Friday night, Piyal did not make any contact
with Tinni's uncle or any other relatives. Even, Tinni's relatives
went to the Kalabagan residence of Piyal, but they did not find him
over there.

As a model girl, Tinni reached the peak of fame. She was an Honours
student of Eden Girls College. Her studies became stopped after she
entered the filmdom as an actress. She had a very close relations with
many powerful persons in the film industry. Tinni's father Mahbubul
Karim is a businessman. Tinni was the eldest between her two
daughters. Tinni's mother and younger sister live in Pakistan. Her
father also stays in Pakistan for most of the time of the year and
often comes to Bangladesh. In Dhaka, Tinni's father and uncle live at
7/9 Bashiruddin Road.

During her professional life as a model, Tinni worked for the
television advertisements of various products, including Henolux
cream, Mouchak Jewelers, etc. Apart from acting with actor Ferdous in
a film, Tinni also signed contracts for acting in several feature
films. But one film director has recently cancelled a contract with
Tinni on the plea that she had a son. However, Tinni later denied that
she had a son calling a press conference.

Family sources said Tinni was divorced by her husband Piyaal
unilaterally only two months ago. Later, she became totally silent.

It was heard that Tinni had developed an affair with former Member of
Parliament. Even her close relatives claimed that the former MP and
Tinni married to each other recently. Sources close to Tinni's family
said the model was seen with the former MP in Bangkok recently.

However, Tinni had again developed relations with another young man a
few days ago. She had also allegedly fled from the residence of the
former MP with valuables. But, she had been missing from a residence
at Eskaton five days ago.

Keraniganj police suspected that Tinni was murdered over the
Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge sometime in the night on November
10. Her body was later dumped into the river Buriganga by the killers.
But the body remain sticked to a pillar of the bridge. Later, the
patrol police of Keraniganj police station saw the body of a young
woman sticked to the pillar in the morning. The police recovered the
body and sent it to the Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy. Assistant
Sub-Inspector of Keraniganj police Shafi also filed a murder case with
his police station.

As no one approached to the morgue to claim the body, it was buried on
Thursday.

Tinni's murder reveals Ovi's world of crime

Staff Reporter (New Nation)

Murder of beautiful model, Tinni once again focused on crime and
politics, revealing gradually how the underworld is deeply linked to
country's unhealthy politics and its politicians. As investigation
progresses, it becomes clear that justice may suffer ultimately in
view of suspected involvement of a whole lot of politics, criminals
and a section of law enforcing agencies.

Tinni was murdered 13 days ago but the police are yet to nab the main
criminal. They suspect Golam Faruq Ovi, a former MP of Jatiya Party
(Manju faction) as the principal accused besides a gang of underground
criminals, who are involved in drug, violence, women and blue film
business. Police suspect that Ovi may have murdered Tinni in a house
of a top politician under whose protection Ovi worked. She reportedly
went to the politician to complain against Ovi. On hearing the news he
rushed to the house and struck hard on her head and she died on the
spot and then she was taken to the Buriganga where she was thrown,
they suspect.

Police investigation revealed a wealth of information about how Tinni
was murdered and how Ovi was a part of the crime. Evidence included
copies of blue films featuring Ovi as the central figure with a large
number of models and film actresses.

During the two weeks of investigation, police interrogated maid,
former husband of Tinni, who earlier surrendered to police, friends of
Tinni, and relatives of Pyaal, former husband of Tinni. These
indicated unmistakably to Ovi, who used his clout as the important
member of Jatiya Party to blackmail the models and actresses to play
in his blue films as pawns.

The question is who is this Ovi? Ovi who hails from village Damura
under Babugonj police station in the district of Barisal, is the son
of a teacher of Damura High School. An ambitious student, he sought
avenues to go up the ladder of life. He joined Chhatra Dal and soon
earned name for his idealism. Ovi's life could have followed a
different stream other than the world of crime had he not opted for
politics of special brand that entirely depended on crimes and
criminals. He left Chhatra Dal and joined politics of Jatiya Party led
by Ershad. He could soon gain his favour and impress upon Ershad so
much that he (Ershad) gave the title of "Ratnagorva" (giving birth to
excellent children) to his mother. He soon tilted to Manju faction of
JP which was more radical maintaining armed band under its control.
Ovi became the principal power house of this brand of armed politics
as he found in it the fruition of his ambition.

In his student life Ovi was involved with several terrorist activities
including murder, mugging, hijacking and extortion. During that period
he made a terrorist group under his control.

Being a student of Dhaka University, it was easy for him to operate
and control terrorist activities. Sources said that when he joined
Jatiya Party (Ershad) he was supplied with modern weapons by the
party. At a time Ovi called Ershad as his Baba (father). No wonder Ovi
became a multimillionaire during Ershad's regime under cover of a
so-called business firm. It was a travel agency which provided perfect
shield for his appropriate activities, which was to lure young girls
with hopes of good job. But almost all were forced to prostitution.
Sources said that Ovi supplied these girls, some were also models and
actresses, to his clients some of whom were foreign clients. His
victims could hardly protest for fear of being castrated in the
society as he carefully video-taped all the orgies, sources said.

Ovi could add another feather to his career when he became a member of
Jatiya Sangshad on JP ticket. He won the seat reportedly with indirect
support from the Awami League, which did it on political ground. They
wanted to blunt the prospect of BNP candidate in the area. Ovi on his
part used his armed band to terrorise voters of BNP to secure the
seat.

By this time, Ovi became a powerful don himself with the credential of
a parliament member. His terrorist activities now assumed a different
hue under veneer of responsible elected representative of the people.
He could not be touched for the crimes and terrorists activities for
which he was blamed. Sources said that his terrorism grew in strength
with his mentors in JP guarding his interest further. He spread his
fangs to all directions and in all of them women and drug played
prominent role. He is also accused of being one of the pillars of
hundi business in the country. It was truly a screen script of a Hindi
film. He continued to earn respectability as he went deeper into the
criminal world.

Police in swoops on various places including that of Tinni found large
number of blue films where Ovi was the central figure with involvement
of large number top models and actresses in the country.

Many privately told the press that they had but little option than to
remain silent and endure the ordeal as they had become vulnerable to
blackmailing. Ovi had videotaped all orgies and other incidents that
could smear their careers and castrate them from the social circuits.
A film producer, known as Don and lady hunter in the movie world and
first letter of his name is "A" may be involved in Tinni murder,
according to DB sources.

Police sources said that Gulam Faruk Ovi is staying in Bangladesh.
Three days ago, police raided several places to find out Ovi. But they
could not manage to arrest him. During the raid of police leader of
Jatiya Party (Monju faction) was present. Sources said that he is
staying safely under the shelter of a political godfather. And he
dares to continue his activities for his godfather.

A model preferring anonymity told New Nation that Ovi has victimized
at least 50 models and actresses in this way and only a few could
escape his claws. Some Advertisement Firms, Film producers and his
close associates are involved in his activities, she added.

Tinni tried to escape Ovi's claws and that's why she met death.
Actress Shilpy Linkon and Papry's who were reportedly linked to Ovi
are also missing. None knows the fate of these women.

Sources feel that the government should have transferred the case to
either CID or DB long ago before the evidence was lost. By this time
much of evidence may have been destroyed under the weight of black
money and corrupt circle, they said.
