Allegations were that these persons went to Agartala and met Indian Army
persons, namedly Lt.Col Misra and Maj. Menon in order to get supply of weapons.
Following Bengali army officers were forced to be in the Pak Army intelligence
team to interrogate the above mentioned people
1.Maj.Nurul Islam (Shishu),later Maj. Gen.,ex minister BNP
2.Captain Sadekur Rahman Choudhury, later Maj. Gen.
3.Captain Shahabuddin of Signal Core, later Brigadier
4.Lt.Col Shamsul Alam, later Brigadier(in-charge of the group)
5.Lt.Col Mustafizur Rahman,ex foreign, home and commerce minister BNP
On 17th, January 1968, Sheikh Mujib, while he was in prison, was released and
acquitted from this case. However the following day he was arrested by the Pak
Martial Law Govt. on different charges.

One of the accused (I am not going to name him, lest he be branded
a "Razakar" now by overzealous patriots) told me on March 19, 1971
that he hoped a compromise would be reached and that he did not
want to see Pakistan divided. This indicates the Agartala Conspiracy
Case was most probably false. This gentleman was brutally tortured
during the interrogation, and I certainly hope that any of the five
Bengali "interrogators" listed above did not participate in the
torture.
Best wishes.

Note (re ZEEZEE1764 posting):
The Agartala Conspiracy case was framed against 34 or 35 five people. The
case was titled "State vs Sheikh Mujib and others". The case was dropped
on 22 Febraury 1969 (not January 1968) in the face of mass upsurge
against the Ayub regime. Ruhul Quddus was a CSP officer implicated in
this case.

I am sorry that I am missing the key point here. What did Mr. Rahman say
in that gathering. Are you saying that he admitted to the fact that he
physically assaulted/tortured Mujib during the
investigation/interrogation?
Thanks,
- Jamil.
