Rina Sultana comes out clean

The young woman who was accused by a section of the media last year
of wrong doing in the share market in the hurly burly days of share
market crisis, has since come out clean.

Rina Sultana Kibria, daughter of a renowned journalist and daughter-
in- law of Finance Minister SAMS Kibria was drawn into a controversy
by a Bangla daily in a sensational report it published last year.
The report, subsequent investigation showed, was not based on fact.

This newspaper which quoted from the Bangla daily in a commentary
published on April 10 last year, on Rina Sultana's alleged involvement
in share market irregularities, has found after thorough investigation
that the original report was not based on fact. However, as The
Independent stands firmly for objective journalism and upholds the
truth and nothing but the truth, it wants to put the record straight
by sharing with the readers the finding of the investigation. The
innuendoes and charges levelled against Rina Sultana Kibria in the
original Bangla report appear to be without foundation and therefore
her protestation of innocence holds.

My response: It is not at all clear to me from this news report who
investigated the allegations against RINA SULTANA. Was the "INVESTIGATION"
conducted by the INDEPENDENT? Or investigated by appropriate law-enforcing
authority? Would any one care to tell the SCB readers? There were
widespread allegations of various forms of share-market related frauds and
blatant cheating against a number of "INFLUENTIALS" including Rina Sultana,
daughter-in-law of the current Finance Minister. If the INDEPENDENT had
investigated the share-market scandals then I wonder in what way a clean
bill of health could be carved out specifically for Rina Sultana. I wish the
Independent could clarify the rationale and methodology of its investigation.
What is the status of the investigation about the "share market Kelengkari"?
To the best of my knowledge, the share market scandal is still under
investigation. It is also a common knowledge that the "influentials" who
made tons of money through the creation and manipulation of various
fraudulent strategies and artificial speculations are trying to influence the
process and outcome of the share market scandal investigation. Respectfully,
M. Waheeduzzaman.
