Why don't you use torrents instead? You get much better resolution.
For example visit torrents.ru. They seem to have everything.
BTW, I strongly recommend downloading the great Polish comedy
"Gangstery i Filantropy":

-yeah, i go to the russian torrent sites sometimes. i used them to dowload
some old soviet war films that even most russians seem never to have heard
of.
but for pure ease of use, the youtube channels can be quite good. the link
that i gave posts his movies in better resolution that average and are very
watchable.
i also read that youtube is about to start supporting 1080p video resolution
so that should be quite nice.

Are they any good? Most movies age very fast.
BTW, have you seen the immortal Kavkazskaya Plennitsa and 12 Chairs by
Gaigai?

Don't you usually get a better resolution from torrents? Does anybody
know what typical resolutions and bitrates are for Youtube vs.
torrents?

- i have a great respect for many of the 60's era soviet war films. many of
them are quite cerebral and rich with symbolism. i also think that since the
war was much more recent at that point in time, the films tend to be very
sober and grey. this fits with my own ideas more closely than modern
explosion-fests, although those can sometimes be good too.

-it doesn't ring a bell. are those two different movies or one long title?

-i personally don't know but 1080p is quite good.

You are missing a lot. Not only are these the best Russian comedies,
they are probably the best comedy films anywhere.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaidai
Leonid Iovich Gaidai (Russian: Леони́д И́ович Гайда́й; 30 January
1923, Svobodny, Amur Oblast – 19 November 1993, Moscow) was one of the
most popular Soviet comedy directors, enjoying immense popularity and
broad public recognition in the former USSR & modern Russia. His
movies broke theatre attendance records and are still some of the top-
selling DVDs in Russia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_classic_movies#Notable_films
Operation Y and Other Shurik's Adventures (1965) and its sequel,
Kidnapping, Caucasian Style (1966)
The Diamond Arm (1968), the last four comedies, especially Diamond
Arm, have contributed a lot of humorous quotes.
Another great immortal film, which i hope you have seen, is Dog's
Heart by Bortko, based on Bulgakov:

But there are no 1080p films on Youtube, are there? And there will be
few if any Russian films in 1080p on Youtube for many years to come. I
am asking about the present, not about the future.
brillyantovaya ruka was one of the first non-subtitled russian movies that i
ever watched so there were many parts of it that were beyond my
comprehension. it was still funny to me though because of the visual
aspects. right around that same time i watched operatsion "bl" which i also
though was quite funny.
i was given sonme modern russian action films as a christmas gift this year
and i expect them to be very cheezy, but never look a gift horse in the
mouth.

i have not found any yet, but i read that youtube either already does or
will soon support them. many of the top-line digital cameras now support
1080p so there should be an influx of vids to youtube soon.
