I presume the Cubans and Chinese are also our good fuzzy "Uncles" too? And
North Koreans?
The trouble with trying to pretend that NATO is only there to fight 'terror'
or 'terrorists' is that when you have a fuzzy, non-defined (I mean
non-defined, not undefined) enemy is that of the problem of fighting the
Boogeyman. You can never get rid of Him. No matter how many times you look
under the bed, He might still be there next time.
And He is always conveniently available whenever you need to scare the
infants and children. Terrorists are not an Enemy, they are Orwell's
Oceania. A mean's of obtaining or maintaining power through Fear! Fear!
This is not a proper or legitimate use or mission for NATO.
This was the formula that Stalin and Hitler used,
and for NATO to now adopt this Bogeyman of "countering terrorism" is to say
that NATO lost and the Nazis and Soviets won because we have thereby become
the enemy.
(America in, Germany down, Russia Out, it worked to maintain peace for over
50 years -
NO need to abandon a winning formula)

Both of you are correct.
Erin sips badly aged slovovitz and the Chinese are rubbing Manchurian
sleeves together plotting our downfall... written right there in their
russkie-chinese strategic treaty of 2002.

To be sure.
It is hard (impossible) to fight an adjective. But it does provide
cover for business profits, and other transfers of wealth. 'Vive les
boogeymens'.
> This is not a proper or legitimate use or mission for NATO.
It isn't. It isn't even in the NATO charter. Extra-curricular
activities can, of course be had - but they cost extra and require
private deals.

Especially as that boogeyman was first introduced to the world by
Putin eg; Elmer Fudd: 'Wascally Wahhabies".

Need I add here that NATO only exists to counter russian adventurism?
The new NATO seems to want to ensure this by using various pinkish
'political glues' rather than anti-tank missiles... but the purpose
hasn't changed. Erin simply huffs too much glue.

Erin obviously believes that daily anti-NATO-Baltic rants from the
russian foreign ministry must be be abberations from the russian norm.
The sad part of it is that they have been abbe[rant] for at least 800
years and show no signs of even slowing down.

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Russkie Defensive minister Ivanov does a
fairly good imitation.

KGBists are now staffing the russian government's (some 60%) high
level positions. This is *worse* than the status of Gorbie sovietism -
where the majority of high level offices were occupied by mere
self-serving flunkies wearing red pins on their lapels.
