I have been looking for some time for a video of the film Notturno, a film
about the life story of Franz Schubert, because i`m a big fan of the great
mans music i have tried everywhere to find it ,but to no avail,i have
exhausted every other avenue,i know it was a German made film so i was
wondering if anyone knows if any copies of this film might be available in
Austria.

A movie can have a different title in each country. It can also be
given a different title on re-release. Do you know the name of the
director or any of the actors? Approximately when was the film
made?

Jane,
if that´s what you mean, this is not a German, but an Austrian film
(produced in the late eighties, directed by Fritz Lehner, starring
Gabriel Barily) - I found it easily on www.austriaculture.net,
searching for "notturno" listed on the movie screen, or on the internet
movie data base www.imdb.com. Amazon doesn´t seem to have it.
Hmm, haven´t seen that one - maybe I should ...
Regards,
Florian

For queries specifically related to Austria the search engine
www.austronaut.at is not so bad BTW.

The main title seems to be the "hot tears" thing:
It looks like it was originally a three part mini-series for
ORF. It doesn't seem that it was ever made into a video. If I
were you I would write Constantin Film and Metropole Pathe
to get them to put it out on video. Maybe some one taped
it (ORF ran it in 1997).

From AddCom.de:

Mit Meinem Heissen Traenen

NOTTURNO
Genre: Sonstiges Land:Oesterreich Jahr: 1986 laenge: 0 min

Der österreichische Regisseur Fritz Lehner versucht die letzten drei
Monate in Franz Schuberts Leben filmisch aufzuarbeiten. Bestechend
ist die empfindsame Photographie; über Leben und Werk des großen
Komponisten wird aber in den quälend langen Einstellungen kaum etwas
Gültiges ausgedrückt.

Farbsystem: 35mm 1:1,66, Dolby
Erstaufführung (D): 29.06.1988
Verleih: -/Constantin/Monopole Pathé
FSK: Sehenswert (Österreich)

Crew:
Regie: Fritz Lehner
Produktionsfirma: Team-Film/Star/La Sept/ORF/ZDF/SRG
Produzent: René Letzgus
Drehbuch: Fritz Lehner
Kamera: Gernot Roll
Schnitt: Juno Sylva Englander, Helga Wagner
Musik: J.S. Bach, Donizetti, Paganini, Johnn Strauß, Franz Schubert

I know there was a video of the film put on release in the late
eighties.......the front cover of the video showed Udo Samel as Schubert
standing up to his waist in water.
It looks like i`ll have to contact one of these film companies you`ve
suggested, because i cant seem to get my hands on it anywhere,it seems as if
the film isnt that well known, even in Austria.

By the way,i am able to get the at.medien.fernsehen newsgroup, will it be
alright if i ask in English, all the messages on there are in German.I
promise i`ll brush up on my written German in future.
Love Jane. (XXXX)
