Republican Anh "Joseph" Cao (pronounce gow) who
represented the Louisana New Orleans district
was the only Republican to vote for the House's
Health care bill. Mr. Cao reported had gotten a
personal commitment from President Obama on
health issues important to Louisiana, including
disparities in federal reimbursement rates
for Medicare. while many Democrats complained
that tighter restrictions on insurance coverage
for abortions, Mr. Cao said that those tougher
restrictions encouraged him to support the bill.
Cao's won his seat after corrupt charges
against the incumbent democrat William J.
Jefferson . Cao was born in Vietnam (he is the
first Vietnamese-American member of Congress)
and he fled with two siblings after the Fall
of Saigon in 1975. He holds a master’s degree
in philosophy from Fordham University and
received his law degree from Loyola University.
