Other" minorities. Members of "Other" racial
minorities (e.g., Native Americans, Asians,
and Pacific Islanders) are greater than 6 percent;
they are slightly overrepresented in the
Services. The proportion of "Other"
minorities ranges from 5 to 9 percent in
the Services, with the Navy having the
largest percentage. In the civilian population,
5 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds are "Other"
racial minorities, an increase of more
than 2 percentage points since FY 1981.

Thanks, Walter. I should have known that if the information was
available you'd find it. :-)
I guess the AAs fall into that "other" category.

Your welcome, Don. Albeit - I did this more for Chris
who wanted to determine if the military was using collecting
statistics wrt to integration ( I think Chris, also was hypothesizing
that the military might be using some sort of recruiting
quota system ). The Statistics say that Asian Pacific Americans
constitute the majority of the persons under the "other"
category but doesn't actually do a breakout figure -
so we can't use the stats to determine how the
percentage in the "other" category are really
Alaskan Natives/Intiuts, Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders, or
Native American Indians are Commissioned Officers
in the U.S. Military. It doesn't look like these stats
could be used for some racial/ethnic quota for APAs
in ROTCs --- however, I didn't check the admissions
policies of our military academies (Air Force, Navy,
Army ) .
I was thinking it might be possible they used stats to help monitor the
racial makeup of the military, mostly to effect an inproved targeting of
recruitment/marketing efforts. Beyond that, I thought it possible they
could also use similar stats to help ensure ongoing integration levels, but
the former seems more likely between the two.

I also did some searching (about 30 seconds worth) and found a bunch of
various links concerning stats of latinos in various ranks in the military,
but I didn't quickly find AA stats of the same type. I'm not sure of the
legitimacy of the latino stats.
