What are the reasons that Oriental is no good? That is the part I
have wondered about. I thought I would come across this . .
information somewhere without looking but that might take forever.
This only extends to people? oriental art, oriental culture,
oriental names, oriental noodles (which I see at the grocery), good or
bad?

You shall judge your neighbor
favorably.
US: Asian/Asian-American
Can: whatever you like
UK: Asian for South Asians, Oriental for East Asians
At least, that's what I've gathered...
: What are the reasons that Oriental is no good? That is the part I
In the US, we're not as partial toward "Oriental" because it seems to be a
term that was popularized during the Imperialist Era, whereas "Asian" is
much more accurate, geographically. Besides, by "Oriental", you mean
"East". And that would depend. East of where? Compared to the US, the
Pacific Rim region of Asia is toward the West. Comapred to the UK, it is
the "Far East".

: oriental names, oriental noodles (which I see at the grocery), good or
: bad?
In the US, we tend to reserve "Oriental" for objects and "Asian" for
people.

White-washed whores prefer "Asian"; proud Asians like myself don't care.
