King Bayint Naung's statue in Kawthoung
King Bayint Naung (1505-1571 AD) is well-known to all Myanmars as well
as to many foreigners who are interested in the country. He was the
brilliant warrior king and the founder of Second Myanmar Empire. He
played a significant role in Myanmar history and well known for his
zeal, bravery, wit, tactfulness, uprightness, farsightedness and
sympathy for the people. During his reign, Myanmar had been able to
enhance its dignity, prestige and wealth as well as promote friendly
ties with global countries especially with neighbours. Indeed, he had
won the respect and affection of the neighboring countries.
The statue of Bayint Naung was placed on the Bayint Naung hillock of
Kawthoung, the southern-most town of Myanmar. The construction of the
statue commenced in 1994 and it was formally unveiled on 26 April
1997. It is 15 feet 10 inches in height ( from toe to apex of spire on
the head-dress).

Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior
General Maung Aye graced the opening ceremony of the statue by
attending it.

Hanthawady Hsinbyumyar-shin King Bayint Naung is still held in high
esteem by Myanmar people who cherish him at the bottom of their heart.
The statue of King Bayint Naung reflects the national prestige and
territorial integrity and sovereignty of Myanmar. It is also
rekindling patriotism and nationalism of the people. The cape where
the statue is placed was formerly known as Cape Victoria. The name of
the cape was also changed into Cape Bayint Naung.
International tourists and foreigners who come to Kawthoung and
Thahtay-kyun (Andaman Club island) always visit the hillock and pay
respects to the statue of Bayint Naung, who was the most prominent and
greatest king in Toungoo Dynasty.
The hillock is also a good and pleasant place for recreation with
colorful flowers in bloom, a concrete path amidst flowering plants and
shrubs, water pond, stone garden, souvenir shops and spacious car
park.

These generals will learn only when they die naturally or get killed
fortunately one day. Guess what they will learn on that day. They will
make oath before Buddha on that day that "Buddha, we did really hard
to transform Myanmar into a well developed country. But, Buddha, as
you know, we genetrals of the SPDC are only malitary-trained people.
We do try but all of our effort made harm than good to Myanmar. So,
please bring me to heaven if those words said are absolutely true.
