A wild video captured the moment a hapless arsonist accidentally set
himself on fire while apparently trying to torch a politician’s office in
the aptly named city of Morón, Argentina.

The surveillance footage that was shared on social media shows the ill-
fated firebug rolling on the ground engulfed in flames, before taking off
running.

The fiery incident took place around 2:30 a.m. local time on October 9
outside the office of Leandro Ugartemendia, a member of the PRO party who
is running for mayor of Morón — a city of more than 92,000 people located
in the Greater Buenos Aires metropolitan area.

CCTV cameras caught the arsonist dousing the front of the mayoral
hopeful’s office with a flammable liquid and then setting it ablaze.

But the clueless saboteur clearly did not expect his actions to produce a
huge fireball of such intensity that it left him engulfed in flames.

In the video, he is seen running in the middle of the road with his
clothes on fire.

He makes frantic attempts to put out the conflagration and collapses to
the ground, beating wildly at the flames ravaging his pants with his
hands.

After finally extinguishing the fire, the failed arsonist gets back on his
feet and runs away. He has not been identified and was being sought by the
authorities.

Ugartemendia, the mayoral candidate whose office was targeted in the fiery
attack, shared the security camera footage on his X account, formerly
Twitter, condemning the incident and demanding increased security
measures.

“Recently, I committed to closing the Office of Assistance to Criminals if
elected Mayor of Moron, and today our office on Aguero was set on fire,”
Ugartemendia wrote. “I know this is the price of standing up to criminals.
They won’t stop us.”

The Union for the Fatherland party, which opposes the PRO party in Morón,
denounced the arson attack in a message on social media titled “No to
Political Violence.”

“Acts like the one recorded at that party headquarters are unacceptable
and demand that measures be accelerated and deepened to find all those
responsible for the attack, which directly affects that political force,
while degrading the democratic coexistence of the people of Moron,” party
officials wrote.

“Those of us who, during these 40 years of democracy, have committed
ourselves and fought for the free expression of ideas and in favor of
political activism, cannot and will not tolerate any kind of violent
expressions that intimidate society or attempt to censor those who wish to
express themselves politically,” they added.
