I sent this last week, but it would seem that it was not received.

As people seem to talking about their collections of Albanian folk music
and song; may I add my two cents worth?

Two CDs which don't seem to have been mentioned (unless I've missed an
e-mail) are:

1. 'There where the avalanche stops' - Touch T33.11 (England)
First volume put out in 1990, with a second volume promised (which
never
materialized). Recordings from the National Folklore Festivals in
Gjirokaster (S. Albania) -
featuring groups from Vlora, Gjirokaster, Korca in the south and
Shkodra, Dibra and Tropoja
in the north. Its too bad they never produced the second volume (not

enough money).
I have a copy of the pieces they had planned to put on volume 2 and
they
are pretty nice.

2. 'The Dirge of Permet' Laver Bariu - Lyra CD - 0188 (Greece)
Recently released by the IOFA of Athens.
This CD features Laver Bariu on clarinet and vocals along with other
musicians from the
Southern Albania town of Permet.

As far as vinyl-discs are concerned - I mention a few others...

1. 'Kenge dhe Valle Shqiptare' - Liria - Albanian Recording Cmpy, Free
Albania Organization
Boston. #CO -
2975/76/77/78/79
A series of 5 LPs - copied, I believe from a previous series of 78s.

2. 'Kenge dhe Valle Shqiptare' - Rekorde Shqiptar - Shoqeria-Jeta e Re (US)

presented by

Shefka Hajro Korca.
Some duplications from #1 above.

3. 'Albania and her Gypsies' - Bruno Hi-Fi Series (from the series -
'Around the World')
BR 50111
Not what the title implies! Actually these are recordings of various
ensembles which were
around in Albania during the 50's and 60's.

4. 'Songs and Dances of Albania' - Balkan, NY.
A series of three LPs. LP.501/502/503. Mostly recordings made by
emigres from

Southern Albania.

5. 'Albania - polifonia vocale e musica strumentale' Vols.1 & 2. - Fonit
Cetra (Italy)

SU 5009/5010
- a couple of quite good LPs put out in the 80's - a third volume was
in the works, but as far
as I know, it never came out (again, too bad!).

6. Jugoslavie 3 - 'Besa ou la Parole Donnee' Ocora OCR 558619
Recorded by Herman C. Vuylsteke, Dec. 1986
(I believe Yves mentioned the previous volume).

And finally (to cut this short) - don't forget the series of vinyl discs put

out by Artexport, Tirana
during the 60's, 70's and 80's. Many of these have great recordings of such
fine Albanian artists as: Fitne Rexha; Naile Hoxha; Vace Zela; Hafsa Zyberi;

Liljana Kondakci; Marie Kraja;
Shazije Dollaku; etc.,etc....
Don't quite know where one would find these nowadays. You may find some in
the used record stores in cities and towns with a large Albanian
representation..... Good Luck!!
