Kody "Monster" Scott, aka Sanyika Shakur, who wrote a best selling book
regarding his experiences as an L.A. gang member, was arrested last week
by L.A. cops for violating conditions of his parole. Apparently the
brother had been blowing weed, among other no-nos.

Kody was arrested while he was sitting quietly outside his home in South
Central L.A. signing autographs. It was said that he had been attempting
to turn himself in to his parole officer, but he had been rebuffed several
times. I think it was mentioned on the news that his parole officer had
been absent when he sought to do the right thing. He was visibly relieved
when the cops came to pull him in, but witnesses said that several squad
cars screeched onto the scene and cops showed off enough artillery and
attitude for anyone to think they were loaded up for a shootout at the
least and a war at the most.

The police precinct where Kody was taken into custody had had his
portrait--apparently from a book promotion--in their squad room with a tag
that reportedly said he was at large. When Kody was jailed; the tag was
changed to say that he was in custody. These chumps must be really proud
of themselves...

Apparently Kody will have to go back to the slam for another year. He
plans to write another book during that time, as well as do a screenplay
based on "Monster."

Perhaps brother could not deal being on the outside, hence the violations.
I wish him well.

Our newspaper said he was wanted for punching out his parole officer.
Maybe thats why the parole officer didn't make himself available.
He got the name Monster from stoving in the face of one of his victims.
A policeman said anyone who would do such a thing was a monster. I
never read his book. How many of his victims were other blacks?

I read the book a while ago, but I seem to remember that he was mostly
involved in gang wars with other black gangs, so I think most of his
victims were black...

I read the book also. Extremely interesting. It is rare that you read an
autobiography of a gang-banger who makes no excuses for the people
he killed. In fact, Kody often seemed to be quite proud of the life he
chose to lead.

Still, an important book to read if you are interested in understanding
how and why someone would enter and lead such a life.

Our newspaper said he was caught setting on a porch in his old
neighborhood signing autographs. He was under court order to live
in a different area of the city but strayed back to his old stomping
grounds.

Last year I heard a white woman interviewed on the radio. She had
written a book about these gangbangers and liked many of them. The
interviewer asked about one of them. The guy had not only killed an
"enemy" gang member but the guy's wife and baby by spraying them with
automatic weapon fire while they were walking down a sidewalk.
She said "Well, I got to know his mother and it
would break her heart if I had used his real name and he's young and
has his whole life ahead of him."

sanyika shakur is an extraordinary individual. and while it's true that he
terrorized a great number of people, he was also a powerful leader. in this
period of his life, he is making the difficult transition between the life
of a warrior and that of a political leader. he very well may fail, but his
effort is noble.

there is a certain amount of dismissal one can toss at a 'monster'. he
killed black children and there can be no forgiveness for that. but if any
deed has consequences, every deed has consequences. and since he has
convinced me that his life is now dedicated to good deeds, i will give
credit where credit is due.

he punched his parole officer in the nose, and now he is in jail. is that a
big deal? yes, because certain people are not allowed to live in dignity.
and for political reasons, some have less breathing space than others.
shakur, having paid in full his debt to society in the most dehumanizing
prison america has to offer, now can't even expect to breathe free.

at any rate, think about why you admire colin powell.

If he has paid his "full" debt to society... Why did he have a Parole
Officer???

He and his wife used some of his earnings from his book to buy a house
away from his old neighborhood. The idea was to break his association
with his past. When they arrested him it was in his old neighborhood
which he was supposed to stay away from. If he hadn't been arrested, I
would bet relatives and friends of past victims would have made him look
like swiss cheese with about 50 holes in him.

Why are Black women so attracted to, and fascinated by, thugs and
scumbags like Monster Kody? While in jail, this homicidal creep gets
hundreds of love letters from Black women. Its too bad so many Black women
consisently choose violent psychotics as boyfriends and husbands. In Black
communities throughout the country the drug dealers, gang bangers, pimps
and hustlers draw the most georgeous females like flies to shit.

My interest in Kody Scott, aka Sanyika Shakur, has mostly to do with his
political stance rather than his attractiveness. I sure don't like his
previous m.o. as a gangbanger/enforcer. However, the young brother wants
to redeem himself. If he continues to write good work about his own
experiences in or out of the slam, then he is doing such. If he begins to
revert back to thug behavior, I'm certainly not going to support his
antics.

Some guys find the slam a lot safer than being out on the street. I hope
the brother adds shrink visits to his Muslim faith and work on himself
further so that eventually, he won't have to go back and he won't be
afraid to be out on the street, whether in the 'burbs, or South Central.

Furthermore, give him time to make either restitution or peace with the
families of the victims he took out.

Why is this bigot bashing Black women? As if they all act so, or as if
the phenomenom he describes is unique to a few sistah?

Lest he forget, there have been a few caucasian mass murderers who have
received proposals of marriage ... while on death row.

I have got a better question than the one he poses. Why are White men so

It happens in white society also. Richard Speck after he was convicted
of killing 8 student nurses including ramming a broom stick up them,
got hundreds of proposals. He turned out to be a homosexual as seen in his
video that surfaced recently. John Wayne Gacy who buried over 30 young
men under his house got the same treatment. I good thing about a Gacy,
a man outbid everyone for Gacy's paintings and then burned them in a
big bonfire so they would never be collector items.

When he came out of prison Eldrige Cleaver (Soul on Ice) said his
sentences for rape were his politcal protest against white society,
which never quite explained to me why he raped black women also.
Now he is a born again Christian.

He became a homosexual while in prison, which is what most incarcerated
men do until they have access to women. Plus, Speck had never had a
regular relationship with a woman; he was impotent. He hardly knew how to
approach one or how to act right without tapping into his rage. His
mother took care of that one, to the point of his developing hatred for
all women, hence the murders of the nurses.

Pretty interesting that he got hormone treatments in order to develop his
pectorals into breasts near the close of his life.

I doubt whether Cleaver is still a born-again. His recent comments
appeared in The New Yorker "Black in America" issue.

He got seriously clunked on the head by some street thugs, apparently
while trying to scope out some drugs. The Berkeley cops rescued him and
took him to the hospital. He is about 65 years old now. His former wife
(thank goodness!) Kathleen is now an attorney and his kids are practically
grown.

I read a couple of his books a few years ago. They were second
hand paperbacks from a small black publishing company in L.A.
The back cover said after serving a prison sentence he turned out
two or three books a year until he was murdered. Sone of the characters
were based upon himself and the crimes he committed (drug dealing,
holdupman, etc). I don't remember the exact titles although I
did see new reprints in a Bookstop last year but they were higher than
I wanted to pay. The woman I was seeing liked them and got me to
read them but then she also nagged me into reading Stephen King.

Yes, especially don't skip over the part where he butt fucks a queer.

A real must.
and his name is Piri.

Actually, Piri Thomas has a new CD out of poetry over Afro-LAtin
rhythms. i can't remember the name of i, but I'm sure it's Piri Thomas'
only CD to be released in 1996.

Mozilla is the native newsreader that comes with Netscape. It is not the
best, although convenient.

Better to go to http://tucows.com and download Free Agent. It is freeware,
and works much better.

There are other Windows-based newsreaders, but considering the money you
will pay for Free Agent (i.e. zilch), it is the best.

It is, without a doubt, the worst piece a shit I have ever seen.
Reading posts was no problem; but the text editor for typing responses
was the biggest nightmare I've ever seen. Trash.

Works great!

I may go to Agent for some of the features, but Free Agent is nice and
works fine.

Having trouble with reading comprehension? Piri never engages in such an
act in this book. He receives oral sex in exchange for drugs, as, by this
time, he is hooked on heroin. With all he has done to redeem himself,
that's all you can remember? He's still working with the inner city
community (I saw him myself this Spring).

All I know about Piri Thomas is what I read in his book. Quite frankly,
I did not condemn him in my previous post so I don't understand your
reference to redemption (I will not bother inquiring into any trouble
you may or may not have with your reading comprehension and/or logic
facilities).

And yes, his little escapade with the queers/transvestites is just about
all I remember from his book. I remember it because his friend, who was
butt fucking a queer, complained that the queer crapped all over his
peter. I remembered that.

You don't think this choice of wording is a little nasty, huh? No
condemnation here, huh? I must have just inferred it, huh?
