provides administrative, financial and support services to the joint venture
companies.

Position Description:
The position provides major oil refiner in San Francisco Bay Area with
industrial hygiene support, administers all aspects of industrial hygiene and
many aspects of general safety. Approximately 25 to 30% of the time will
be spent in the field. Job duties include:
 Develops and administers industrial hygiene monitoring strategy including
routine field monitoring, emergency monitoring both on site and in the
community, health surveillance systems;
 develops, reviews and implements specific exposure controls on an as
needed basis;
 evaluates chemical and physical hazards in the workplace and community;
 provides for ventilation surveys on an as needed basis;
 responds to indoor air quality issues and provides surveys as needed;
 provides industrial hygiene and safety officer support for emergency
response activities;
 administers respiratory protection program including fit testing, training,
and selection of appropriate respiratory protection equipment;
 provides technical support in safety and toxicology;
 oversees all aspects of the personal protective equipment;
 oversees hearing conservation program;
 handles asbestos licensing and training and serves as the site’s Radiation
Safety Officer;
 administers and implements the sites ergonomics (office and field)
programs;
 provides support for the site’s Human Factors program;
 provides support for various industrial hygiene and safety training;
 administers the hazard communication program including updating of
chemical inventories, upkeep of the Material Safety Data Sheets, new
chemical authorizations, regulatory and agency required hazardous material
inventory reporting, and Toxic Substances Control Act compliance
reporting; and
 interprets and implements various rules and regulations.
Experience Required:
The position requires a B.S. degree in a technical discipline. The candidate
must also be a Certified Industrial Hygienist with 5-7 years experience,
preferably with a general knowledge of refining. The successful candidate
must demonstrate good judgement with strong written and verbal
communication skills, must be an expert in various industrial hygiene
sampling techniques and monitoring, and must be self-directed and willing to
work in the field. The successful candidate must be willing to become an
active team player in the Health and Safety Department and be a member of
the emergency response crew.
