I just wanted to put my two cents in about our friend, the Bard. I concluded
almost right away that the Bard had no interest in useful dialog, so I have
no use for him. I myself "twitlisted" him almost as soon as I discovered this
conference, but I guess some of the rest of you either do not have this
facility at your disposal or are uncertain how to use it.
So I would like to make a recommendation: just ignore him. It takes 2 to make
a flame war, you know, and inside of a month I believe he will either tone
down or become the biggest clown the net has ever seen. Either way we will
have exerted our collective influence over him. Quietly. Even if the Bard
does not give up or go away, if we all ignore him, he becomes impotent. I
don't think his personality could stand to give us the satisfaction of seeing
him "brought to heel" in this way.
The issue here, IMHO, is one of standards. Not the Bard's standards but ours.
By _responding_ to the Bard, we are allowing him to set our agenda. Where can
this possibly lead ? What good can come of it ?
Some of us talk a great deal about solutions - I think this is one solution to
a very limited problem. The time you would spend preparing a snappy retort to
the Bard could be better spent in networking with the rest of us who actually
give a damn about what you have to say.
Like many other situations in life, he who troubles us greatly has only the
power over us that we give him.

So what was the purpose of this article? To tell other people to ignore some
dude and he'll go away? It doesn't seem like he really gives a **** about
people ignoring him, since the majority of his postings were not replies, but
start-up posts.
Furthermore, your means of "ignoring" him by posting much stuff about
ignoring him is kind of antithetical. Methinks you just have too much time
on your hands, and for the most part, just like to hear yourself net.talk.

I'm sorry, I thought there might have been some purpose to this conference
and that it might be worth pursuing that purpose instead of it's detractors.
My mistake.
