"The Adrian Report" on BLACK MONDAY, January 21, 2008, Martin Luther
King Jr. Day ... Wall Street sleeps....

http://www.angelfire.com/planet/blacklisting_central/FANNIE_MAE_REPORT.html

culled from the notes of Andrew Meyer, CUNY professor, NYC

ARM mortgage loans -- Analysts fear that a wave of defaults could
create a vicious cycle of foreclosures and fire-sale liquidations that
would bleed U.S. real estate markets of massive equity.

While this situation is well reported, little has been said about its
link to Chinese fiscal policy and U.S.-China trade relations. A
disasterous Chinese-U.S. trade imbalance is married to the growing
crisis of sub-prime mortgages meltdowns. China's foreign currency
reserves have grown to 1.2 trillion dollars U.S. The reasons for this
mounting pile of cash are well-understood: China has kept the value of
the Renminbi (RMB) relative to the dollar artificially low so as to
keep prices in China low and spur employment and economic growth.

What relation may be drawn between Chinese fiscal policy and the sub-
prime mortgage market? $350 billion of China's foreign currency
reserve is held in U.S. T-bills. A further $230 billion of this cash,
however, is held in bonds issued by U.S.-backed agencies such as
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. These latter instruments are bonds that
consolidate the debt of homeowners toward the purchase of their
houses, much of which was generated by the issuance of risky sub-prime
mortgages.

When one parses out the motives for Chinese fiscal policy, the link
between it and the sub-prime mortgage crisis becomes clear. The PRC
can only keep the value of the RMB against the US dollar artificially
low by parking the profits from its massive trade surplus in U.S.-
denominated assets. This has created a constant fund of cheap cash
available to lenders in US housing markets. Bankers do not need to
stringently calculate the risks associated with sub-prime loans
because they know that they can always sell off that debt to an eager
Chinese treasury in the form of a US-backed T-bill bond. The chronic
need of the Chinese fisc to hypercirculate RMB has thus created a
number of economic aberrations, including a Shanghai Stock-market
bubble at home and a US real-estate market bubble abroad.

What the long term effects of this situation will be is anyone's
guess, but most economists would agree that when there is a bubble it
is bound to burst. The effects will not be good, the only open
question is their ultimate severity. One lesson from the situation is
clear: US complacency about the domestic political situation in China
is self-defeating. US leaders express frequent frustration over
Chinese fiscal policy and the distorting effect it has on CHINA-US
trade, but this ignores the deeper structural motives that perpetuate
the anomaly.

Chinese leaders continue to prime the economic pump that is causing
securities and real estate bubbles for fear of the political
consequences of any degree of economic slowdown. They hope that they
will not be held to account for failing to deliver fundamental
political reform as long as the Chinese economy continues to enjoy
robust growth. How long this inherently unstable situation can be
sustained is an open question. The political consequences of acute
economic collapse are likely to be far more grave than the instability
that might be engendered by proactive and preemptive reform, but this
contingency does not seem to have registered upon China's nor
America's Wall Street nor Goldman Sachs leadership. An acute
collapse is certain to occur.

January 21, 2008 -- ``The monolines are dead, their business model is
dead,'' said David Roche
The tipping point came last year when the three major rating companies
downgraded thousands of CDOs. Ratings on more than 2,000 CDOs were cut
in November alone, according to a Dec. 13 UBS AG research report.
Maryland Insurance Administration held off filing delinquency
proceedings last month while ACA sought capital. ACA was required
under its credit-default swap contracts to post collateral if its
rating fell below A-.

ACA gained 2 cents, or 4 percent, to 48 cents in over-the- counter
trading on Jan. 18 in New York. ``The monolines are dead, their
business model is dead,'' said David Roche, head of investment
consultancy Independent Strategy in London. ``The government is going
to have to recapitalize this industry or there will be communities in
the U.S. where they can't even flush their toilets'' because they
can't afford the services. The Federal Reserve may need to organize a
bailout, Nangle at Barings said. ``More generalised monoline meltdown
would be a situation that would require intervention by the New York
Fed,'' said Nangle. The regulator should ``get all the banks into a
room, have them open their books, and then lean on them to inject
capital.'' -- reporting by John Glover in London. Editors: Emma Moody,
Gavin Serkin

The vast majority of Fannie Mae's mortgages are loans to borrowers
with good credit, but over the past five years the government
sponsored enterprise became exposed to mortgages that were made to
people with poor credit - subprime mortgages - and to mortgages that
were made with incomplete documentation of borrowers' income, called
Alt-A mortgages in industry parlance.

One way that Fannie increased its exposure to subprime and Alt-A
mortgages was to buy bonds backed with these types of loans. While
these subprime and Alt-A mortgage-backed bonds are only a small
proportion of Fannie's overall mortgage holdings, their combined value
of $76 billion is almost double Fannie's $40 billion of capital, which
is the net worth of a company and the last cushion against losses.

You really do believe that bullshit.

That means you're the fool.

Tell me Australian Mooslime Boy, what date will the USA fall?

Dream on, mooslime.

The USA will be alive and well as the LEADER of the entire free world
when you die.

Nothing will ever cause the collapse of the USA.

Nothing.

Surely not a bunch of whacko mooslimes.

The Japanese were much more fanatic and organized than the mooslimes
have or ever will be, and we took them down HARD.

If the mooslimes ever get to be as much of a nuisance as the Japanese
were, we'll simply do the same thing.

We'll pick a couple of major cities that are Mooslime capitals and
we'll nuke them off the map.

Then we'll do a couple more each week until the mooslimes throw their
collective hands into the air and beg for mercy JUST AS THE JAPANESE
DID.

The mooslimes aren't even a 20th as powerful as the Japanese were and
the mooslimes aren't even smart enough to properly organize their
efforts. Look at the types of people that are attracted to being
mooslimes.

Really look.

Take this idiot Kangarooshit. He's an uneducated, ex-convict who lives
in some dust bowl in Australia and has to check in with the police
just down the road from his hovel.

He knows nothing about the real world and lives in a fantasy of hatred
for the USA.

He is NOTHING and will always be NOTHING.

This is the type of lowlife that islam attracts and converts to it's
perverted ways.

Look at it's holy book. The comic book of idiots. It tells good
mooslimes how to fuck animals and little children. It tells them how
to have sex with little boys and goats.

The fucking comic book Kookran tells them to wipe their ass with a
rock.

Islam is a fucking joke. A world wide joke.

The stupidest people in the world are mooslimes.

Thanks for the laugh, Kangarooshit.

Now, go report in with the police like a good convict.

much as 3.9% at one point, on fears that key global economies will
enter recession.

On Tuesday, the US Federal Reserve made its biggest rate cut for 25
years to stoke up growth and bolster markets.

However, worries persist that the move may have come too late, as many
firms have already reported lower profits and a worsening business
environment.

Analysts said that stock markets would probably be volatile in coming
weeks.

On Tuesday, the European Central Bank hinted it would not follow the
Fed by slashing rates, and analysts said the Bank of England was
unlikely to accelerate rate cuts.

Speaking to the BBC, billionaire investor George Soros said it was
going to be difficult for the UK and US to avoid a recession, even
after the Fed cut its main interest rate to 3.5% from 4.25%.

The markets are expecting a flood of profit warnings in the next few
months
Matthias Schellenberg,
ING Investment Management.

The worry is that slower economic growth will hurt corporate earnings,
and stocks fell across all sectors on Wednesday. Banks, oil companies
and technology firms were amongst the biggest decliners.

"The uncertainty about corporate earnings growth in 2008 has risen,
not only in the financial sector," said Matthias Schellenberg,
managing director at ING Investment Management.

"The markets are expecting a flood of profit warnings in the next few
months."

Market movers

In New York, the main Dow Jones index dropped 1.45%, with the
technology-dominated Nasdaq sliding about 2.70%.

The UK's FTSE 100 index finished a nerve-wracking session 131 points,
or 2.2%, lower at 5,609.3, erasing the gains it made on Tuesday.

Germany's Dax lost 4.9% at 6,439.21, while France's Cac 40 was down
4.3% at 4,636.76.

So far this year, the FTSE 100 has lost more than 13% of its value,
wiping about £225bn off the total value of the companies listed on the
index.

Germany Dax's index has been one of the worst hit in Europe, down
almost 20% this year.

Werner Bader, a stock strategist at LBBW bank, put the falls down to
the fact that German firms make most of their earnings overseas,
particularly in the US.

"Dax companies are more exposed to the global economy because of their
strong exports," he said.

Caution rules

Despite a late rally in stock prices on Tuesday and the positive
session in Asia on Wednesday, investors were still being cautious.

"After digesting the news, markets have come to the conclusion that it
will not resolve problems in the US economy," said Niels From at
Dresdner Kleinwort.

to fully rebound

"Caution still rules the long-term picture," added Markus Steinbeis of
Boston-based Pioneer Investments.

Bank of England governor Mervyn King said that the UK faces its
toughest economic challenges since 1997 when the Bank gained
independence from the government.

Even so, with the Bank widely tipped to reduce rates to 5.25% from
5.5% next month, analysts are saying that more extensive cuts are
unlikely.

This is because the Bank said the risk of inflation had "worsened
markedly".

European Central Bank (ECB) President Jean-Claude Trichet also
highlighted the risk of inflation during a speech to the European
Parliament on Wednesday.

Mr Trichet said that price growth was still the ECB's main concern,
and this outweighed the risks of slowing economic growth.

"In all circumstances, but even more particularly in demanding times
of significant market correction and turbulences, it is the
responsibility of the central bank to solidly anchor inflation
expectations to avoid additional volatility in already highly volatile
markets," he explained.

Recession fears

Some investors cautioned that the Fed's sudden, and sizeable, rate cut
seemed like a panic decision.

The market STAYS in a constant fear of recession. It always has, it
always will.

The dip it's in will pass and the USA will never feel a real bump.

As a USA hater, you WANT to believe it's a problem.

It isn't.

Go back to sleep until your next check in with the cops, convict.

Annual Human Rights Watch report has strong words for Saakashvili
administration

By Eter Tsotniashvili

Monday, February 4

Human Rights Watch (HRW) condemns underdeveloped democratic backbone
in Rep. of Georgia

The government approach to human rights is "leading Georgia away from
international standards" and "represents a gamble with freedom,"
according to an annual Human Rights Watch (HRW) report released
January 31.

The report also lists poor prison conditions and the restriction of
fair trial and private property rights as cause for concern and says
government actions in the run up to the January 5 snap presidential
election "marred the pre-election campaign."

The police crackdown on demonstrators caused a "serious human rights
crisis," the report says, adding that there is an emerging, dominant
view in the government that "short-term, supposedly minor sacrifices
in human rights are justifiable to build a stronger state, which can
better protect human rights in the long term."

It also highlights instances of attacks by unidentified assailants on
opposition activists and cases of the police detaining people on
"questionable charges such as hooliganism," at the time of the
November 7 crisis.

The annual report comes days after HRW published its submission on
Georgia to the European Commission's ENP Progress Report, calling for
a "comprehensive, independent, transparent and conclusive
investigation into [the] excessive use of force on November 7."

However, ruling party MP Davit Kirkitadze told the Messenger that a
commission to investigate the November 7 crisis will be established
after parliamentary elections, which are expected to be held in
spring. Kirkitadze said there is not enough time for a full
investigation before the current parliamentary session ends in March.

The state of emergency and the aftermath of the November crisis
impacted upon the election campaign, the annual report says, with
media restrictions and shutdown of Imedi TV, a "key alternative media
outlet," tainting the pre-election environment.

HRW also points to human rights violations in the prison system,
stating that inmates face "inadequate nutrition, medical care and
exercise," and that penitentiary facilities in Georgia continue to be
overcrowded.

Between October 2006 and October 2007 the prison population doubled,
with the government building more prisons as opposed to finding
alternatives to pretrial detention, the report says.

It criticizes the government decision in May to lower the criminal age
of responsibility from 14 to 12, as against international
recommendations and "further weakening the protection of children in
conflict with the law."

On property rights, the report says the government has failed to
"adequately compensate" owners of confiscated property, and cites
cases of authorities seizing property before owners can properly mount
a legal challenge.

HRW also underlines instances of restrictions on fair trial.

Matthew L. Bryza on "Fully Reloaded Georgian Parliament the Best Shot
for the future of Georgia?"

TEXT
Fully Reloaded Georgian Parliament the Best Shot for the future of
Georgia? AP News

Nov. 7th, 2007, Tbilisi

by Matthew L. Bryza

I believe Ms. Hammick writing for JANE'S DEFENSE WEEKLY upon the
upcoming election in Tbilisi, was practicing the art of, as F. Scott
Fitzgerald once said, of "the test of a first rate intelligence is
the
ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and
still retain the ability to function".

How so? She was evidently flipping through her mind the several
conflicting tentative dates set for the parliamentary elections,
since
late 2003. Since Nov. 23rd, 2003, when President Saakashvili
parachuted into his position as ruler of Georgia, and the rarely
clarified-in-the-media Georgian constitutional amendments made in
December, 2005, most people are understandably deeply confused and
divided on basic democratic procedures here, regarding efforts that
would help the majority of people, rather than propping up some cold
and abstract ideology in its stead, helping insiders only.

Here is a blurb from Freedom House back in mid 2005, to refresh your
memory of the jigsaw puzzle of parliamentary election procedure here:

[First, Saakashvili and NED and the Liberty Institute set in train
the protests which brought him to power on 23rd November, 2003.

Thus, it can be argued, that parliamentary elections should have
been held in Nov. of 2007.]

15.06.2005 - Source: Freedom House, the 2004 elections were somewhat
free and fair; however, the level of political pluralism had been
severely reduced, as no party could compete with National Movement-
Democrats

("Nations in Transit 2005") [#32929], [ID 4745]

"...the elections of 2004 were considered generally free and fair,

though voter lists were still not fully complete. There was no

harassment of the opposition. However, the level of political

pluralism was sharply reduced as the former ruling party completely

disbanded and no political group could compete with Mikheil

Saakashvili and his National Movement-Democrats. Only one opposition

bloc of the New Rights and Industrialists was able narrowly to

overcome the 7 percent threshold for party lists."

RHETORICAL QUESTION: Compared to Georgians and their 6 or 7 thousand
year old fiercely loyal and devoted family traditions, how many
Americans do you know who actually look after their old parents and
grandparents themselves, and do not put them into criminally USA-
style overpriced and shamefully profitable nursing/senior/memory care
homes, backed up in large measure by MEDICARE political insiders,
working along with State and Federal congresspersons? Probably two,
one, or none. How many Americans typically speak and read three
languages and alphabets, and who work 45 to 65 hours a week with not
a
tetri of paid overtime, and without complaining about the total lack
of labor laws in their Parliament??? Again, nearly zero. You can
count such Americans on one hand! Here, in Georgia , such models of
self-sacrifice and duty are as common as khachipuri, their local
grilled cheese sandwich.

These diamantine Georgians illustrated briefly above are the citizens
who belong in their Parliament, and not only elites and millionaire
businessmen/women, and THEY should be the ones to select a new
president, if there is to be any hope of true democracy here in
Georgia any year soon.

A president such as "Misha" [short for Saakashvili], who galloped
into
power overnight on the day quoted above, would be fairly tested by
the
people of his new democracy, if and only if, the people themselves
gave him something like his report card grades after the last 4 long
years in which he could evaluate himself too, in careful and painful
self-examination. The result of a revitalizing and invigorating new
parliamentary election process, in which a `new batch of 2007/2008
parliament MPs', not in any way part of Saakashvili's clan, nor part
of the current Opposition's clan, could and would implement fresh and
vigorous legislation and programs. If only they had been allowed to
do so at the end of 2007, a global miracle would have been born - a
real beacon of light !!!

A real beacon of light, especially when one considers the helpful and
democracy-building funding from outside agencies of the last 4 years,
thanks to credits and currencies from the USAID, the EU, the UN,
SECO/
SDC, the German government, et al, who have greatly helped make many
of the improvements the Georgians have desperately needed, after the
mayhem and ugly scenarios following the collapse of communism in this
nation.

Isn't this the nub of the conflict today, and a major cause of the
loss of public and international confidence in the current
Saakashvili
government? Aren't I correct?

Georgians themselves, excluding the ever and over and twice again
prospering current Members of Parliament, the normal members of the
legendary Family of Georgia are cut off at the knees from any kind of
truly democratic structures and planks and platforms, in nearly every
respect, in the current situation? Can anyone remember how
Shevardnadze reinstated most of his Parliament after he dismissed
them, more or less, can you dig out these events from the faded
memories of the past? How many key players in Saakashvili's clan
worked at one time [for quite a long while, indeed] on the monorail
of
Shevaradnadze's express train to disunity and oblivion and hunger?
Will not they simply repeat the same mistakes?

So we might conclude after an hour or two of productive thought on
this matter, [i.e., of a fresh and uncompromised Parliament], that
the
Georgian people were indeed deprived of a timely, and legal, and in-
their-favor, parliamentary election, in November of 2007, which
might
have brought about the promising guiding-light of fresh teams of
Georgian MBAs and MDs and Masters degree winners, coming back from
USA, UK, and Germany, the EU, et al.

Along with the principals and top teachers of Tbilisi and Kutaisi and
Batumi and Telavi schools, and Georgian physician-activists for the
desperately needed hospital care and health care here for the
struggling desperately people of Georgia, and along with them also
the
passionate property rights activists, and the grey panthers of
organized parties of disgruntled pensioners, and the many magnificent
and proud Georgians, which include displaced farmers from their
hectares who are being replaced by huge corporate conglomerate
automated farms, owned by many current MPs, these urgently needed new
MPs -- who could have stampeded into parliament as newly elected MPs
this new year, if just given the chance -- and that this imagined
truly democratic and model parliamentary election, could have come
into being at the most opportune time for the natives of this land,
late 2007, early 2008, consisting of the non-elite of Georgia
basically. They would have swept out most of Misha's MPs, and along
with them the bulk of old Shevaradnadze and Moscow-resonating fiddle
stringers too, who/which are frequently and deeply embedded in the
half-dozen or more, old and very tiresome Opposition parties here, as
time rolls on like tank treads?

These never recruited and never elected new MPs would have averted
the
hurried and hasty presidential elections of Jan. 5, 2008, and would
just as likely waited until a late 2008 election date to install
their
new president. By this time there would have been nearly a full year
of generous and hospitable Georgian debates, within a newly
transfigured Parliament, MPs most probably not in tune with Misha
during this hypothetical 2008 year's passing, and they would all have
had to agree and/or disagree with each other in a gentlemanly or
ladylike way, until end of 2008. Political pluralism would have
flowered like the Garden of Eden, and new and friendly coalitions
would have emerged [only in this scenario] and triumphed from the
basic reforms of Saakashvili's first two years.

These new and unheard of , but now lost to Georgia's better and
undiscovered destiny, these many freshly minted MPs could have TRULY
debated issues and policies and finances, rather than the mud
slinging
ejaculations and shout spasms we see today, and these angels of
democracy were in many aspects stolen from the garden of justice,
just
as its flowers were showing her firsts blossoms. These
hypothetical
MPs might have had the chance to vote in Parliament on the issues
TRULY important to THEM and to their constituents, and not just to
pocket USAID money for imported goods laden highways, nor toady up
to
the Pentagon's strategies for Georgia, nor kneel to the proponents of
Vladimir Putin, his inner team evidently NOT allies of Georgia, nor
would these ideal MPs have supported the old business ties to Russia
that are still deeply entrenched here, but not clearly seen, and
counterproductive to a new democracy.

I am truly astonished by the bright and hopeful and hard-working and
self-sacrificing Georgians in their 20s and 30s and 40s and 50s also,
who are well educated with admirable characters and genuine integrity
and who want to make a big difference in their country's destiny, in
a
disciplined communitarian manner, women most welcome too, to join the
ranks, and they are all blocked by the current `map of democracy', by
both teams, Saakashvili's team, and the motley cluster of Opposition
teams. Typical and honest Georgians must control the future of
Georgia , and not American military investment conglomerates nor old
Russian mafia business networks.

These sterling Georgians mentioned directly above are the citizens
who belong in Parliament and THEY should select a president, if there
is to be any hope of true democracy here any year soon. After this
"turn-around", Presidential elections could be arranged to coincide
with Parliamentary elections, as in other nations. After such a
model transition, Saakashvili would go down in history as a fine and
admired agent of transition, a team player who saw he should enter
private business after 4 years at the helm, rather than what is in
store for his legacy should he win the election this Jan. 5th. His
past achievements would quite likely be blemished beyond repair by
another term in office.

These new hypothetical MPs would be loyal to Georgia, and her best
interests, and not to Saakashvili, as if he were their beloved CIS
factory boss, or a Godfather in a Francis Ford Coppola film, or a
mirror of Putin's autocracy, and these new hypothetical MPs would not
and could not be loyal, either, to any tricked-out business interests
of the old Opposition, one would pray.

Georgia needs a totally new opposition, or she will sink.

FULLY re-LOADED NEW PARLIAMENT THE BEST SHOT FOR THE FUTURE OF
GEORGIA?

by Matthew L.

Georgia needs a totally new opposition, or she will sink.

For the Future of
Georgia !!

I believe Ms. Hammick, a reporter recently writing for JANE'S DEFENSE

Historical Margin Note #1 on Georgia before you read further: Compared

to Georgians and their 6 or 7 thousand year old fiercely loyal and

family-relations-devoted traditions, how many Americans do you know
who actually continue to look after their old parents and older
grandparents and perhaps their great grandparents too, themselves?
Perhaps in the same household? These Georgians, all of them here,
would NEVER put an older family member into a rest home, or a Memory
Care Home or into a criminally overpriced USA-style and shamefully
profitable nursing/senior/memory care home, you know -- the kind of
racket in the States backed up in large measure by HHS/MEDICARE

political insiders, working along with State and Federal

congresspersons, to milk the tax systems bone dry! These same
Georgians are trying to use this familial passion and commitment to
forge a new and democratic Parliament this May 21st, 2008, but the
likelihood of any success is as slender as the homeless of New Orleans
to get their property back via FEMA programs after Hurricane Katrina.
The forces here preventing a true democracy in Georgia are the
identically same forces at work against them there in Louisiana and
Mississippi and Texas. Margin Note #2--QUESTION: How many Americans

typically speak and read three languages and alphabets, and who work

anywhere from 10 to 25 hours a week overtime, with not even a tetri
[penny] of paid overtime, and who never complain about the total lack
of labor laws coming out of their Parliament??? Again, nearly zero.
These Georgians here have not yet been educated by their strictly
censored media, in any shape or form, upon labor laws or labor rights,
yet the USAID personnel here and the US embassy swear this is a
"beacon of light" regarding fulfillment of democratic ideals!

A whole new team of concerned Georgians need to take over their
parliament, this May 21st, these citizens desperately need new
opposition forces deep in their Parliament, and not only the elites
and millionaire businessmen/women that they now have as MPs, and THEY
should be the 'new ones' to select a new president, if there is to be

any hope of true democracy here in Georgia any year soon.

make many of the improvements the Georgians have desperately needed,
after the mayhem and ugly scenarios following the collapse of
communism in this nation.

Isn't this Parliamentary “stuffing” the nub of the conflict today, and

a major cause of the loss of public and international confidence in

the current Saakashvili government? Aren't I correct that these
Georgians need to immediately reload their Parliament?

Georgians themselves, excluding the ever and over and twice again

prospering current Members of Parliament, the normal children of the

legendary Family of Georgia are cut off at the knees from any kind of
truly democratic structures and planks and platforms, in nearly every

respect, in the current situation. Can anyone remember how

Shevardnadze reinstated most of his Parliament after he dismissed
them, more or less, can you dig out these events from the faded

memories of the past? How many key players in Saakashvili's current

clan worked at one time [for quite a long while, indeed] on the
monorail of Shevaradnadze's express train to disunity and oblivion and
hunger?

Will not the Saakashvili MPs and he as their leader, and most of the
old Opposition MPs, simply repeat the same mistakes again and again?

So we might conclude after an hour or two of productive thought on
this matter, [i.e., of a fresh and uncompromised Parliament], that the
Georgian people were indeed deprived of a timely, and legal, and in-
their-favor, parliamentary election, in November of 2007, which might
have brought about the promising guiding-light of fresh teams of
Georgian MBAs and MDs and Masters degree winners, coming back from

USA, UK and Germany and France-- the EU, et al.

A parliament comprised of the principals and top teachers of Tbilisi

and Kutaisi and Batumi and Telavi schools, and Georgian physician-
activists for the desperately needed hospital care and health care

here for the struggling desperate people of Georgia, and along with
them also the passionate property rights activists fighting the
Chancellery, and the grey panthers of organized parties of disgruntled

pensioners, and the many magnificent and proud Georgians, which
include displaced farmers from their hectares who are being replaced
by huge corporate conglomerate automated farms, owned by many current
MPs, these urgently needed new MPs -- who could have stampeded into

parliament as newly elected MPs this if just given the chance -- and

that this imagined truly democratic and model parliamentary election,
could have come into being at the most opportune time for the natives
of this land, late 2007, early 2008, consisting of the non-elite of

Georgia, basically. They would have swept out most of Misha's MPs, and
along with them the bulk of old Shevardnadze and Moscow-resonating
fiddlers too, who/which are frequently and deeply embedded in the half-

dozen or more, old and very tiresome Opposition parties here, as time

rolls on like tank treads on these pot-holed streets?

These never recruited and never elected new MPs would have averted the
hurried and hasty presidential elections of Jan. 5, 2008, and would
just as likely waited until a late 2008 election date to install their
new president.
Political pluralism would have
flowered like the Garden of Eden, and new and friendly coalitions
would have emerged [only in this scenario] and triumphed from the

reforms of Saakashvili's first two years.

These new and unheard of, but now lost to Georgia's better and

undiscovered destiny, these many freshly minted MPs could have TRULY
debated issues and policies and finances, rather than the mud slinging
ejaculations and shout spasms we see today, and these angels of
democracy were in many aspects stolen from the garden of justice, just
as its flowers were showing her firsts blossoms. These hypothetical
MPs might have had the chance to vote in Parliament on the issues
TRULY important to THEM and to their constituents, and not just to
pocket USAID money for imported goods laden highways, nor toady up to

the Pentagon's missile strategies for Georgia, nor kneel to the

proponents of Vladimir Putin, his inner team evidently NOT allies of

Georgia, nor would these ideal MPs have supported the old camaraderie
business ties to Russia are still deeply entrenched here, but not

clearly seen, and counterproductive to a new democracy.

I am truly astonished by the bright and hopeful and hard-working and
self-sacrificing Georgians in their 20s and 30s and 40s and 50s also,
who are well educated with admirable characters and genuine integrity
and who want to make a big difference in their country's destiny, in a
disciplined communitarian manner, women most welcome too, to join the
ranks, and they are all blocked by the current `map of democracy', by

teams, Saakashvili's team, and the motley cluster of Opposition teams.
Typical and honest Georgians must control the future of Georgia , and
not American military investment conglomerates nor old Russian mafia
business networks.

These sterling Georgians mentioned directly above are the citizens who
belong in Parliament and THEY should select a president, if there is
to be any hope of true democracy here any year soon. After this "turn-
around", Presidential elections could be arranged to coincide with
Parliamentary elections, as in other nations. After such a model
transition, Saakashvili would go down in history as a fine and admired
agent of transition, a team player who saw he should enter private
business after 4 years at the helm, rather than what is in store for
his legacy should he win the election this Jan. 5th. His past
achievements would quite likely be blemished beyond repair by another
term in office.

Mathew Bryza Declares He Hade "very blunt" Discussions Over
Transparency in Democracy with Saakashvili, Burjanadze, and Gurgenidze
in former Soviet Georgia

http://www.civil.ge/eng/article.php?id=17804
/ Civil Georgia, Tbilisi / 2008-05-09 20:01:36
Mathew Bryza, the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, said
there was a “progress in preparing for a free and fair” parliamentary
election on May 21, but also noted there still was “plenty of work to
do to make sure that all of the Georgian voters have full faith in the
electoral process.”

“It is important that the voter lists be as accurate as possible; use
of administrative resources for political purposes in a way that is
illegal be taken care of, addressed and stopped and that Georgian
voters are confident that if they have complaint about the way the
election was carried out, they would be able to have a fair hearing
through the election commissions and through the Georgian court
system,” Bryza said at a news conference in Tbilisi on May 9.

Earlier on Friday the U.S. official met with the opposition leaders
and some of them again complained about what they call support of the
U.S. administration and personally Mathew Bryza to the President
Saakashvili’s administration and because of that support, they
claimed, “anti-American sentiments” started to grow in Georgia.

Levan Gachechiladze, the leader of the nine-party opposition bloc said
prior to the meeting with Bryza: “They [the U.S. administration] are
lobbying them [the Saakashvili’s administration], like Central
[Communist Party] Committee was lobbying its secretaries [local
Communist Party chiefs] in Georgia from the Kremlin during the Soviet
times.”

Speaking at the news conference, Bryza had to again address those
complaints.

“In every country where I have responsibility, or wherever I’ve
worked, every political group tries to bring us on their side in their
domestic political debates,” he said. “Perhaps some people confuse
democracy with support for themselves. I know the cornerstone of our
administration’s foreign policy, which is that stability can only come
through political legitimacy and legitimacy can only come from
democracy.”

He then recalled the 2003 Rose Revolution, as well as ex-President
Eduard Shevardnadze and said that even through Shevardnadze was
considered “a close friend” of the United States “at the end of the
day it was the democratic force of peaceful protest that became the
Rose Revolution that changed the course of this country’s history.”

“As painful as there was we stood by democracy [during the Rose
Revolution],” he added. “In November [2007] things were difficult here
politically. I had very blunt discussions with the leadership of this
country. And that was painful, but we stood on the side of democracy
and we continue that today.”

“As long as Georgia continues its very constructive path of
articulating peace plan [for resolving conflicts] and as long as
election preparations precede and shortcomings in last January’s
election are taken care of and you Georgians see these elections free
and fair, we believe Georgia will find itself on a very strong path on
which you will feel support of the entire Euro-Atlantic community.”
