How many dress fittings can I expect?

Hi -

I'm about to order my dress, and I'm so excited! It's an Alfred Angelo A-line
with short sleeves and just a little delicate lace and beading on the bodice
and hem of the short train. I will wear a very small petticoat with it,
because it's not the type of dress to have a full skirt. I love it because
it's just my style and flatters my figure, and I think my fiance will love it
on me.

My question is this - how many dress fittings can I expect?

I am a size 6 petite, but am ordering a size 8 because the size 6 is too tight
in the bust. The skirt, of course, will have to be shortened, so I know I'll
have at least one fitting.

Have any of you had more than one dress fitting? If so, how many, and for what
reasons? I don't expect to gain weight before my wedding day, because I'm the
type who exercises rather than eats when I'm under stress. If anything, I may
lose a few pounds before May.

Thanks for all replies -

I had two: the first was the initial where she pinned everything up,
and the second was the final. I suppose if something wasn't right at
the final, I would have had more. I found a great alterations person.
I called her in May, and she was booked through July. This wasn't a
problem for me, but while I was there, the phone rang off the hook with
women who were desperate to find someone before their wedding in two
weeks...... So, it might not be a bad idea to start canvassing people
to find a good seamstress (lots of horror stories of hacks out there,
so be careful) and get on their calendar.

Good luck,
Paula

Dear Nancy (and Ken),

As a custom dress designer myself, I can tell you only "it depends". I
usually budget for two fittings for an alteration of this sort.
Circumstances have sometimes made more fittings necessary. For example, I
once had a client who wouldn't take off her street clothes, so my
patternmaker and I did the fitting with them on, and kind of took a SWAG
at it--that cost us an extra fitting. I once had a very demanding and
particular client who nearly brought me to tears by the end...

Executive summary: Two.

Regards,

Jennifer (and Kurt)

Hello everyone, i am alcodia, you can expect many dress fittings that you want, but it depends that which tailor you are choosing, because that tailor should have expertise, like i know jjstailors.
