Are scholarships really available?
If you're skeptical about the true availability of private sector
scholarships, please read the book Winning Scholarships for
College by Marianne Ragins. In it, Marianne describes how she
accumulated more than $400,000 in scholarship awards by the first
semester of her freshman year in college. It's required reading for
anyone who wants to seriously pursue educational funding beyond what's
normally offered by the government and colleges. It will definitely help
you turn your results into real monetary rewards. Chinook has no
financial interest in Marianne's book sales.
How Chinook is different...
If you're skeptical about scholarship search services, please read on:
Chinook is different. At no charge, you can determine in
advance how many funding sources we will be able to report on
for you individually.
Our Free Preliminary Assessment sets us apart from other search
services, because we give you as the consumer enough information up
front to decide whether the service is worthwhile to you.
Chinook College Funding Service is a member of the Tucson Better
Business Bureau, and has been since 1993. We're proud of our unblemished
record, and you can hear the BBB's report on our service by dialing
1-520-888-5353.
How much is it?
We have two options for delivery of search results.
Online Delivery: Chinook's AidBase Online
You can receive your results online, right now on the computer
you are using, for only $15! We can deliver results online much
more efficiently, and we pass the savings on to you.
Standard Delivery
To receive the results printed out on paper and delivered via
Priority Mail to your door, the charge is $44.
After you receive your results, we can optionally request applications
from funding sources for you at $2.50 per source.
'I can get this info myself free...'
Of course, you can search the net for applicable sources as well. Start
at Yahoo and you'll find some of the best sources out there. FastWeb,
FreSch! and SRN provide free searches supported by advertising.
You'll still have to wade through a bunch of sources that you aren't
eligible for, because Chinook's search algorithm is superior. And with
the free searches, you'll be asked to open up your email box to
advertisements from sponsoring organizations.
Or, you can make the trip down to your library and see how up-to-date
and easy-to-use *those* sources are. We cut to the heart
of the information that is applicable to you: we report only those
programs for which you yourself are eligible to apply. And we will never
release your information to any other organization.
Application Deadlines!
Please pay attention to scholarship application deadlines! Most
scholarship programs operate on an annual basis. They accept
applications up to a given date, and then consider the applications they
have received to decide which individuals will receive awards. In order
to give the award committee time to make an informed decision, and in
order to have answers for the students who have applied early enough for
them to be able to make plans for the next year, most organizations
require applications several months in advance of when the money will
actually become available. Here's a chart showing how many application
deadlines come and go each month during the school year, for aid
starting the next September.
http://www.chinook.com/appdeadline.gif
Ideally you should start your search a year or more before you will need
the money. Some organizations have application deadlines in September --
for aid starting the following September! In your Chinook report, you
will receive information on all sources in our database regardless of
the deadlines. It is not our fault if you were eligible for a
scholarship whose deadline has passed at the time you decide to do your
search. You may be eligible again the next year.
Also, these dates change from year to year. Don't put off your
search. If you're interested in aid NOW because you're in a
financial bind NOW, our Preliminary Assessment will give you free
information on private loan sources available to you. You will need to
get a student loan to tide you over (see your financial aid office at
your school). BUT think ahead! What are you going to do about the
2000-2001 school year? A year ahead is when a search can really help, to
the tune of thousands of dollars.
