On further reflection 17 September 2011 would be the optimal date for
me.

I have marked my calendar. Will anyone be joining us?

Mine is marked too, although the chances are slight of making it...but
who knows...

Damn. Particularly in view of a conference starting the next day. Bummer.

The "long live" phrase, as in "The king is dead; long live the king" refers to
the next king. There is no next Usenet, unfortunately, at least as we knew
it.

Maybe someone needs to write a newsgroup-reader
app for portable devices (like the iPad etc.)...

Is that an offer or a comment?

I bet we do between us. I know some people use Dreamwidth and Orkut
too.

Perhaps a starting-point would be - who was at YASBP/PP 2001? And who
wasn't but would have liked to be?

I've been having fun digging over my memories of the party seeing who
I can remember.

Piglet, Nuala and Bitty I'd met a few times before. Don't think I'd
met Arthur before. Had met Piglet's Boy once.
Kay lives a couple of miles away from me in Coventry which made it
slightly odd running into him in Manhattan.
Jason, who was obviously badly jet-lagged as he seemed to keep
disappearing every few hours for a nap. Ann was nice enough to keep
him company each time.
Ned had his MacBook which was handy for shooting a stop-motion video
of questionable content, heavily abetted by Adam (Naked Magic Cow).
Jed, looking exceedingly young, reminded me of a younger version of me
only a lot more handsome.
Susan struck me as so exceedingly cool, pretty and generally awesome,
that I remember feeling tongue-tied whenever she was nearby.
Sevoo never seemed to stop smiling and laughing.
Julie (elfling), Karen, and Darren don't think I did much more than
say hello to.
Redbird, whose real name I don't recall? And a very tall chap with a
grey goatee?
Stuart (straycowboy), was sitting with a group of folk on the stairs
outside, as I discovered when I was leaving, and stayed another hour
talking to him/them.

Fun times. That's by no means everyone who was there. Of course I did
have quite a lot of the punch. Someone jog my memory.

... and Kay's ass. IIRC, the action was directed by Jason.

Stewart's BF perhaps, or Mara's husband, Marty, in Central Park.

I went to school nearby. Does that count? :-)

Well that depends, I suppose, whether you choose to come to the party or go to some old conference!

:-) The conf is potentially a paying gig, and it costs to get to the
party. Now if I can just make one concept mesh with the other...

Just to be clear... are you (Piglet) offering to host this shindig/hootenanny at your place like last time?

No clue here. If only someone here worked with social media professionally... say for the charity sector... they'd be sure to know.
