More than two years after the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran’s role in the Middle East or West Asia remains highly contentious. Broadly speaking, there are two main narratives regarding Iran’s regional role: one focusing on economic advantages and another highlighting Iran’s continued military activity. Premised on ideas of liberal peace, the first narrative revolves around Iranian integration into the global economy, a process that is also potentially lucrative for its neighbours. Iranian economic integration is expected to take place through trade (joining the World Trade Organisation, for example), and a greater Iranian role in regulating the international oil market. The second narrative outlines the ambivalence of Iran’s foreign policy and its military role in the conflicts in Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. This view highlights the risks of normalising diplomatic relations with Iran despite the government’s inability – or unwillingness – to fully control its own security services.

Volunteers with Persian language skills needed

I work with the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) on Deptford Broadway (South East London) - a non-profit organisation for refugees in London. We are in need of volunteers or mentors who would be interested in helping us in our programme to provide support, advice and workshops to women, helping them integrate successfully and happily in the UK. More details can be found on our website (www.acaa.org.uk) if you’re interested.

Many of the women who come to us have very limited English language skills initially. We were hoping you would be so kind as to pass this on to the members of your society, as we are in need of volunteers with language skills in Persian.
